Hey Jonathan, hope you are doing well! Btw Congrats on your graduation and I'm studying the basics at Community College now and I'm interested web development so can you tell me which major should I choose when i transfer to UTA hopefully?

If your goal is only software engineering then I’d say to choose software engineering major. That being said I would recommend computer science over just software engineering. Hope that helps!

Sounds great if you’re starting the computer science degree I’d recommend you jump into JavaScript but don’t worry too much about remembering everything just get a little familiar with some of the concepts like data types, variables , loops, etc and then watch a couple tutorials on C because I think they are switching the intro course from Java to C or C++. Anyways good luck !!

hey, I want to go for ms cs UTA but I couldn't understand major tracks mentioned in their website(AI,data analytics, etc) is it like I have to pick my subjects into these fields which ever I'm interested or is it a specialization? Also they mentioned it as 30-hour thesis and non thesis, 36 hour thesis. so do they have a co-op ? pls help me understand how it works, how to select
@jonathanbanda7596

Hello sorry for the late response. As far as I am aware each of those paths are specializations in which you revolve your curriculum from. You will do a certain amount of core classes that all paths must take and after which you take a couple required courses that are based on your specialization followed by electives surrounding that specialization. The 30-hour thesis include doing a thesis where as 36-non thesis does not require it and you have to take 2 other elects in place of the thesis. If you need more information you should contact the CS department directly by scheduling a video chat or in person. Again sorry for the late response. Best !

Sorry for the late reply. Software developer you’d want to major in software engineering but you can still get a job as a software developer with a computer science degree they are both similar in terms of course work.

I’m thinking about switching from computer engineering to computer science at uta. Do they teach you how to code or is it something you have to learn yourself as you move along with the courses?
@jonathanbanda7596
3 жыл бұрын
Well if you look at the degree flow chart computer science and software engineering degree plans have the same pre-professional courses. So if you’re looking to learn how to code I’d go with either, but I after the pre-professional courses you go onto the 3000 level courses and these again are the same with the exception of 3111 which is object oriented software development. So my advice to you if you’re looking into a more code oriented degree to look into either computer science or software engineering. Lastly to answer your question, they teach you to recognize programming languages.You’ll get more comfortable with coding as you move along the degree plan, but like I said all three degree plans are very similar the first 2 years into the degree plan. Now if you’re thinking about switching because you don’t like computer hardware stuff then I’d switch because you’re only going to hate it more as you progress.Hope this helps!

Hey Jonathan , I would like to know that these pre professional courses of 124 hours are completed in how much time? Also , after the pre professional courses are done , then is when the main degree program starts?? Is the entire program of 4 years ? I visited the website but didn't found the info what I wanted , please can you give me some details about it , since you are a student there , I am planning for my undergrad there
@jonathanbanda7596
3 жыл бұрын
People usually can finish the pre professional courses within the first two years of the degree plan. The pre professional courses is basically like a ticket for you to be able to take the 4000 level courses you need in order to graduate. You’ll have CS course starting your first semester. Yes the entire program can be completed in four year but of course the mostly depends on you entirely. The degree program at UTA is really good, if you decide to do undergraduate there you’ll definitely not regret it. One side note for the pdf I use in the video search up “uta computer science degree flowchart” and click the first search it should be a list of all engineering degrees offered at uta so find the one you want and go from there. One last thing make sure you look at the most recent or the term you you plan on declaring cs as your major because that is the flowchart and courses you would need to complete. Good luck hope this helps!

Well the degree program is for 4 years but to my knowledge and hearing around a good amount of people take an extra semester or two in order to complete an engineering degree. Of course it is very do able to achieve in less amount of time. From experience I would just suggest doing your undergrad common courses at a community college in the maymester, wintermester, and a couple CS courses during summer 1 and 2.

How are the weed out classes like, I’m starting out as a freshman.
@jonathanbanda7596
4 жыл бұрын
Hello Heet, As far as I am aware the "weed out classes" include that of {Cal I, Cal 2, Phys I, Phys 2, and ENGR 1250}. Cal 1 & 2 have a pretty modest fail rate but do not feel overwhelmed as those who fail are usually the ones who never do the homework or don't go to the lab. The same goes for both the Physics classes. In physics, the labs usually take of 20% of the grade. That being said these courses should not be taken lightly as it is easy to fall behind and risk failure. To my knowledge ENGR 1250 is probably the easiest course out of the pre-professional but has the highest fail rate, this is to once again negligence of one's own responsibility. Many fail because they don't show up for the class which docs you a whole letter grade per occurrence. You shouldn't feel worried especially if you're a freshman, these are tough times due to the pandemic I can recognize that lectures are not being conducted like in-person classes. And it's just weird as a whole. Trust me just give it time and don't overload your semesters. You can always make up for time during the wintermester or summer. But definitely try and reflect after your first year to see if CSE is right for you and always talk to your advisor. Best of luck Heet and the best advice I can give you is not to give up because if you really want it, it's up for grabs.
