Its name reminds me of the ‘violator’ from that old spawn film

Concavenator, allosauroid, lived at the same time as the spinosaurids and early tyrannosaurids, in early Cretaceous Europe. Then, during the middle Cretaceous, something shocking happened and abelisaurids took over Europe as the tyrannosaurids, allosaurids and spinosaurids disappeared.

Great job man thank you going to school at 36 to study paleontology is hard but charcarodontosaurus is what I’d love to study since there’s not many expert that just study those I love all dinosaurs but I’d love to study charcarodontosauradie

Dude you’re awesome. Great vid! Thanks for the shoutout :) We’ve been digging up dinosaurs for about the past 150-200 years?and it’s just so crazy to think how much more there is still to discover. And I had no idea it was related to the likes of Giganotosaurus and Acrocanthosaurus. And now that you mention it, I think you’re 💯 correct on it being the inspiration for the Frigibax line. The Paldea region in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is based on Spain/the Iberian Peninsula. They didn’t have any fossil Pokémon is SV, but they managed to sorta cover that base 😅 pretty neat.

With the placement of the hump directly above the hip… is it maybe possible it was a giant muscle attachment point? Like, maybe Concavenator could jump *ridiculously* high and far? 🤔
@DinoBasics
8 ай бұрын
Unlikely, as the crest was made up of extended vertebrae or spine bones. If the bone was say an extended femur, then possibly. But to reach the spine, this muscle would have to extend across the entire body and make an almost 45 degree turn towards the spine from the legs. For most modern animals, like Kangaroos or Frogs, they often grow longer legs, rather than completely new structures to increase speed and jumping abilities. Interesting thought though, obviously Concavenator could have evolved a wholly new structure unseen in the modern world.

Now, I don’t know a whole lot about Concavenator, so take this with a grain of salt. Concavenator is one of the most unusual-looking dinosaurs of all time. It lived in Europe, during the Early Cretaceous period, about 123 million years ago. It can grow to be 20 feet long and weigh up to 880 pounds. It can have one to two humps, similar to spinosaurids, on its back which can grow to be 16 inches long and is speculated to being used for body heat, storing body fat, and is also being argued that it could also be used for some type of communication. It has also been speculated that the hump was brightly colored, thus making it noticeable from a mile away. If a Concavenator was healthy, its hump would be large, probably making it a significant mate and deterring possible rivals and other theropods. also likely had proto-feathers on it's arms, giving more evidence to the theory that most dinosaurs had plumage, proto-feathers and a more direct relation to modern avians. As a predatory carnivore, it would’ve possessed two relatively long arms with three-fingered, razor sharp claws, and a pair of powerful jaws full of blade-like teeth that were perfectly designed for slicing flesh. It also probably could’ve ran very fast on two powerful legs when chasing down its prey. It probably lived alongside herbivores, like the ornithopod, Mantellisaurus, and the sauropod, Demandasaurus, while competing with the spinosaurids, Vallibonavenatrix and Camarillosaurus. From my experience, it is only known from the Jurassic Movies’ video games, mostly notably, Jurassic World: The Game, Jurassic World: Alive, and Jurassic World: Evolution 2, as a species member of the new Cretaceous Predator DLC Pack, as well as Path of Titans (2020). Anyways, it’s great to hear from you again, and this is something I really needed, because I have not had a good week.

I don't get why feathers on the concavenator is something odd when even some ornithischian dinosaurs had some sorth of feathers
@DinoBasics
7 ай бұрын
A few reasons: 1. It is questioned how many ornithischians had “true” proto feathers. Some ornithischians had obvious proto feathers, but specifically the quill-like structures have been questioned as true proto feathers or possibly highly developed scales. 2. It’s also odd why or how other groups could have feathers. It would make total sense for coelurosaurs as eventual birds, but a completely different group developing feathers would be quite the coincidence, calling into question how we understand the evolution of feathers
@matthewthole6878

@@DinoBasicsconvergent evolution of feathers? Dunno how likely that is but 🤷♂️
@DinoBasics
7 ай бұрын
@@matthewthole6878 Very likely, but this raises more questions of WHEN, since Concavenator predates when scientists thought feathers first appeared in Coelurosaurs by a few million years, and HOW, since Concavenator was the first of it's family to be discovered with them, so we don't know what led up to this evolution and what followed this evolutionary lineage.
