I carry strong hip, OWB in a safariland ALS. It’s everything you said on comfort and accessibility. One thing that didn’t get mentioned though is that in that face to face pushing scenario, if you carry at the hip all you have to do is drop your strong leg back and it blades your body between the weapon and attacker.

I utilize the "floating gun" concept using a S&W 642. AIWB when driving sitting,etc. moves to front pocket in a soft holster (which I carry in my front pocket all the time) when I am walking/standing and moves to coat pocket without a holster in cold months (no need for a holster with a 12 pound trigger and I want the option to just shoot through the pocket) which make belt carry too slow. I also sometimes use a 3:00 OWB when using an open cover garment like a western vest. I have even just palmed the gun in hand while going to and fro in a late night rest stop,or dark parking lot. Pocket carry is the only method that gives you discreet hand on gun and with hand on gun the fastest shot on target. One concealed gun can do it all if your competent.

@randomperson1943
3 жыл бұрын
@@ShaneChilly I’m glad you commented. (Sorry this is so long). I’m in NC. You don’t need a permit to openly carry. In order to purchase a gun in NC however, you need what is called a “purchase permit.” To get that, you have to go to the Sheriff’s department and apply for the purchase permit for $5. You can apply for 3 or 4permits (I think)... (at $5 each) under one name and that will allow you to purchase 3 guns. The Sheriff’s department will do the background check and when it’s done, you go back and pick up your purchase permit and go pick up your gun from the store. You can then openly carry. Period. To get your concealed permit, it’s $90 and you gotta take a class and all that. Since I can openly carry, I do. No need to pay $90. I could even have a gun “given” or “gifted” to me, and I can openly carry it here without a background check. Or if I lived in another state, purchased my gun legally there, then visited NC or moved to NC, I could openly carry that gun here. If you came here to visit, you can openly carry while here. Annnnd also, in NC, 76 of the 100 counties are 2A sanctuary counties. So if there were ever a law to take away guns or restrict our rights, those laws can’t be unforced in those counties. I foresee us becoming a full on 2A Sanctuary state soon.

I wear basketball shorts 98% of the time. Pocket carry works great with a pocket holster. Something like a 380 Taurus Spectrum and you can easily forget it's even in there. A SCCY 9mm is more noticeable but at 15 OZ is still very comfortable. Sitting down in a car sometimes the holster will slide back so you just need to guide it as you're sitting down to prevent that. The 4'o clock confuses me because you have to reach quite a bit farther back with your arm, so I usually do 3'o clock, which is more parallel and the gun is more concealable. When sitting in the car you notice a lot of weird discomfort from the different positions of appendix to hip and even the back with a gun or knife. I use horizontal draw for small knife in front waist with the buckle to the 2 or 10 o clock position, and multiple sheaths in vertical position elsewhere on the belt if you want more draw options for outdoor use. I prefer pulling it downward so the sheath needs to be placed higher up the belt, not lower, or the tip (bottom) of the sheath digs into your back if you're sitting in a chair or driving. Many people may not consider these weird ideas of placing sheaths or holsters as I would like its done in movies, but for us who do bother to experiment, its good to know where the best or most comfortable/doable positions are for knives and guns (or other tools). It's good to experiment different positioning of belts/straps, sheaths and holsters for weapons or tools for survival, outdoor camping or precaution, or for self-defense or war. also putting knives behind your back in sheaths isn't as hard as you might think. your brain and muscle memory will recall just fine.

I just carry my piece in a pocket in a small holster designed for pocket carry. It keeps the gun totally concealed. I'm big on not advertising I am actually carrying a piece and since it is hot most of the year where I live, and I am small, pocket carry works the best for me to totally conceal my carry piece. I don't even feel my carry piece in my pocket. Most of the positions shown are great for a bigger person with a gut and wearing a couple shirts. But for us thin small people they really do not work well.

Im a somewhat skinny and muscly-ish guy (I workout 4 times a week) so I place my ccw in-between the middle of my torso and my strong side. If I put my ccw on my strong side, the gun will stick out like a sore thumb under my shirt despite it being a size larger than what I should be wearing. Since I place it where it is, I decided to go for a sub compact (Taurus G3C) because I dont want the barrel of my handgun to be digging into my thighs as much as possible when sitting down and I dont want to pull my pants up any further than it is.

A long time ago I was hit by a car and had permanent back damage. I could not carry more than 30 oz on my belt unless I wore suspenders. Recently my 16 oz LCR 38 + 5 spare rounds has become too heavy with the other stuff I normally carry. When I can I prefer a vest with inside pockets. The vest will accommodate my LCR or my Shield or I can belt carry the firearm and load the vest with the other junk. Summertime the vest is too warm and I have to transition to a pocket pistol. Sticky/Ramora holsters work but I am back to weight limits. My current solution is a Keltec P32, 7+1 and a 10 round spare mag. Total weight is 14 oz. Ruger needs to bring the LCP2 out in 32 ACP. More rounds, less recoil and more reliable than 22lr.

Strong side waist is the best for me… the hardest is when I’m driving… The seatbelt is always in the way…

Here is a trend I have noticed. concealed carry guys seem to have at least 20 extra pounds on them and wear oversized clothes and tell you useless information like, "gun is hidden by your cover garment." I wanna respond with, "Thanks man I appreciate this when I stop caring about fitness and my presentation il use this advice."

I keep my sticky at the cross draw position and it feels the most comfy as a guy with a belly

I prefer appendix carry. For now is the best way to carry a gun.

Yes find a position that is comfortable to wear for long durations. However, dont carry where your primary arm/hand can be restrained
