You can tell this guy is super nervous, but this is still the best one of these lighting rig videos on this channel. He does a really good job showing everything and how it's used.

I've seen the Spirit Tour in Frankfurt, Berlin, Rome, Bologna, Austin and Dallas so far = and will be catching the NA Leg 2 in San Antonio and Chicago. I've loved this stage since the first show in Frankfurt to the last one in Dallas and of course the band (die hard Devotee) but the technical magic behind the lights is fascinating and this video was an incredible view into the behind the scenes - on top of the logistics of moving this rig from country to country city to city. Looking forward to seeing the lights, stage and magic of the music two more times this tour. Cheers and great work!

I work for HSL. the company that owns all of these lights on the Depeche tour. I agree with manny, the bmfl are and amazing fixture.

BMFL is awesome, but the VL6k's power this show. Love that fixture upstage on the floor like they are used here.

super interesting to see this video - that stated, I was in Chicago to see the show last night with this very same setup, and altho the actual performance was killer, I had friends on the floor, and I was up on one side as neither of us had a good view -- due to how the setup was built most of us in that 23,500 person space had SOME kind of obstruction. That is my ONLY complaint.. Everything else rocked.

and yes, it was industrial looking and good because I've been a MAJOR fan of DM since I was 13, but as I recall The Cure was in Milwaukee about 20 yrs ago at the Bradley Center and with just as bad seats I had zero obstruction, it was a beautiful light show in addition to the actual performance. I wish we could have had that in Chicago last night. Those whom were there that I know ALL had some kind of obstruction at the United Center - that stated, we all agreed the performance was killer and the lights were too otherwise. ...the set was just not made for that place tho.

I saw this show in Santa Barbara! Spent way too much time looking at the lights instead of the band, and I've been a Depeche Mode fan for 30 years. I was fascinated by the chromostereopsis effect when the projection of the red flag was shown with blue lights in front of it - it made the flag appear to jump out in front of the stage.

I'm really curious, was the red/blue thing deliberate? I wish I had a picture to show what I'm talking about. It might have been during Where's the Revolution. Big projection of a red waving flag with blue lights around it and fog. From my perspective the flag seemed to be suspended in air at the front of the stage. Is that an effect that lighting designers routinely use? And the 10k Fresnels - I remember those coming down during one number that had lots of contrasting lines moving on the screen, and the silhouettes of the pantographs made cool Moire patterns. Couldn't see that they were doing anything else but I wasn't watching them the whole time. Was that deliberate? I know some of the underlying technology but I'm an embedded systems guy, not a lighting designer. But if you ever need LED hula hoops, poi, or Cyr wheels that support native Art-Net control, I'm your man!

Thanks a lot for the walkthrough, really interesting to see the technical details of such a show. Unfortunately the Spirit stage design was probably the most boring stage setup DM has ever had since their beginning. A band in front of a large video screen... How innovative. Compared to the setups in Devotional tour or Touring the Universe. Even that stupid little sphere from Touring the Angel had at least something unique ;)... But this is really boring from a stage design point :( On the other hand Jean-Michel Jarre outdid himself again with his current tour. Thats something I expect from DM as well with all their fantastic setups in the last decades.
