Glad you mentioned the ax and saw! I wouldn.t use my ax to filet fish...it is for processing wood! The knife is for cutting rope, processing food, etc. I do not care how well it stands up to the abuse of making an ax out of it. Use the right tool for the job!

@@BonEchoGearReviews if you have to have only one - for whatever reason - this does seem like a good choice. I like your review. Very honest and informative. Plus, it seems like you actually have spent time with this blade. I see so many reviews where they just take it out of the box. Or they are intentionally trying to destroy it. Good job!

I agree , I would no more use my knife to split wood than I would use my axe to slice tomatoes 👍😁

for retention I riveted another piece of leather to the top inside of the sheath on my hudson bay knife.

Great idea! In fact I may just do that for all my loose sheaths . Thanks for the comment.

Also good review. It was a little slow but good. I would also get a little closer with the camera when taping a task even the battoning could have been more close up. A little feedback for you.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes you're right. For the next review I will make my shots closer to the task. Appreciate it!

INteresting - I have 4 parangs of different types some with blades that are fairly curvy. I made sheaths for them and the designs at 2:30 is actually roughly what I ended up doing just messing around on my own - it's more or less the most reasonable shape I think - a pocket for the wide front bit of the blade and then an opening that allows it to get pulled free with some clasps to hold the open bit together. The only alternative seems to be a sheath as wide as the widest part of the blade all the way to the top which is bloody annoying (two of them came with a sheath of that sort, super bulky and annoying with poor retention capability)

I also love a good parang! Yes I think this snap style sheath is the way to go for that shape of blade. Same for khukuris.

@@BonEchoGearReviews Yeah that would make sense. I am thinking about making a version of heated pvc pipe pressed to fit the blade and lower part of the handle and later cut to form the sheath, like they would in Indonesia, (I guess to sorta mimick kydex) just because it’s good for wet conditions. I’ve had no real rust issues with the leather, but I tend to use it in an arctic summer setting, close to the sea, with a fair amount of rain but also a fair amount of salt on the breeze, so I am still mulling over what works better. The advantage with the leather is it does absorb some general humidity and wetness off the blade and with a bit of oil residue from greasing the blade it seems to do a fair job of keeping it rustfree, even if fairly wet. I guess we’ll see …

So I'm trying to decide between the ironpath and the BK9 what one would you choose? I don't want to do any reprofiling on it I just want to use it mainly for chopping and battoning if need be

I feel like you would be better off with the BK9. It's ready to go right out of the box. For the price, I think its a great option.

What grip tape do you use for the handles?

I think Wilson tennis wrap is great. Rescue tape or self fusing rubber tape is good as well. I admit, I find myself removing the all tape these days and using the natural handle /‘scales. Thank you for the comment
