Thanks for the video. How does the epoxy hold up under the liquid? Does it fade or deteriorate? I've seen many people say not to allow tumbler to sit in water. Thanks so much!

Why did you spray the holographic vinyl?
@FunkyFlamingoshop

It keeps the epoxy from repelling since holographic vinyl is so slick sometimes it repels on the first coat.

You can get more water and or glycerin in there. Take the base and put it in the freezer for an hour. The black plastic will seperate from the stainless steel part. I believe there is very small hole in that plastic but you can drill it out so it's easier to put liquids in. It's been a while since I have done one.

Water will not go into the cup thru that hole in bottom, they are not insulated tumblers. That hole stops on top. It’s a welded on thread for the bottom piece that screws on. Although I fill that hole also with silicone when I fill the rest of the area. The cup is amazing too!!

I made the cup. Long process but I have to say I enjoyed it. The outcome is awesome. Big air bubble had to rewatch the video to make sure I mixed water and glycerin correctly. Is there a way to mix the water/glycerin so it’s a slightly smaller bubble. Overall so fun. I am ready to make another. 👏🏼👏🏼

I am going to be trying a different technique this week to try and limit the air bubble size. I am going to try and fill the back with silicone, I will hopefully be posting a video soon... if it works. The air bubble is from where you can't fill anymore and the space between the base and the water line.

Quick question. If using epoxy, how come sitting it in water and glycerin doesn’t water log it? Like why doesn’t it break down. It’s essentially soaking the epoxy which tends to not like that.
@FunkyFlamingoshop

Epoxy can handle being submerged in water, that's why it's used for marine repairs. Crystalac cannot handle water.

Any chance you know what to do if it’s leaking? I must not have sealed it good enough 😫
@FunkyFlamingoshop
4 жыл бұрын
Yes! My first couple leaked when I used a different sealer. I flipped it upside down so the leaking side didn’t have any liquid coming out and I cleaned it with alcohol and let it fully dry. I then put epoxy on my gloved finger and went around the rim where the metal and acrylic meet and wiped off the excess with a baby wipe, I did it twice, letting it cure for at least 4 hours in between but epoxy is so thin it got into the crevices and hardened and stopped it from leaking. Just make sure you wipe with the baby wipe right away so you don’t see any residue on the outside.

@FunkyFlamingoshop

You can pop off the black insert in the metal base and fill from there but I honestly don’t like the idea of that because I feel like you can damage the insert and it may leak. I personally would rather a bigger air bubble than leaking. There are people who swear by popping off the insert though. I personally don’t.

I haven’t ever had an issue with it. Honestly though, these cups are more likely to get broken before that happens. The outside acrylic if dropped will crack, I unfortunately had it happen to me, I dropped a northern lights one I made myself and it cracked and was done.

4 жыл бұрын
All the space at the bottom without water where the cap sits is the air you see when it’s upright. To get less of an air bubble you would need to fill it all the way but I worry about the seal of the cup with putting so much water. Some people pop off the black insert of the cap and fill from there. You could try that if you want less air.

Filling the hole with hot glue is not a good idea. That hole allows for expansion of the stainless steel cup so the plastic does not crack. If the tumbler is used for hot liquids by filling that hole there is the possibility that the bottom may pop off or the plastic exterior will crack..

I have never heard this before and I have never seen it happen with anyone who makes these. Did this happen to one of yours? I am going to reach out to the manufacturer and see if this is happening often because the hole needs to be filled and if there’s a better way they recommend I will find out and post it.
