The duty to respect another person's privacy and never divulge information is known as confidentiality. If patients had to tell their doctors intimate personal details about their lives without confidentially, it would be detrimental to the trust they have in their doctors. Doctors are expected to use the information that patients tell them with the expectation of using that information to help them and not hurt them. Confidentiality is of great importance in medical ethics. In these examples we see the first doctor giving the patient's information to another party with no confirmation of who she is giving the info to. I can see how it would be important to find out what somebody is taking when treating them, but you must first make sure of who you are speaking to. In the second example, we see a front desk worker divulging patient information in front of other patients. I can see how these happened and are probably quite common, but great care must be taken when dealing with patients' private information.
