Do you still enforce the policy in circumstance of emergency like car accidents, health, or death? I been getting backlash for being “money hungry” I don’t charge additional for no shows but I do take deposits and will keep it in events of no show/ last minute cancellations

In contrast, how do I handle a chronically late stylist? I've been going to her for 26 years and I spend a lot of money there. Came back today so she could fix something she did (no charge), planned my day around it. Got a text saying she was running 15 minutes late. OK. Got to the salon and waited...and waited...she said "5 minutes" and I said OK. It was a HALF HOUR. I told them I cannot wait any longer and left. Enough. She texted me blaming the client before me but nope. I am busy, I am never late and I have never cancelled at the last minute. So, what now? Please address. This is so disrespectful to me and my time. Late cancellations and no shows are also disrespectful, so charge for that but don't be surprised when you can't collect.

Great question, I’m so glad you asked. I sense your frustration, which I totally understand. The questions I would ask myself is “what do I want the outcome of this situation to be?” Is it an apology, compensation, to be right, etc. I’ve learned as unjust and unprincipled as it is, often we won’t get what I want so I have to decide whats worth my mental energy. And only you know that for yourself. I generally give alot of grace to someone if I have a longterm good standing relationship with them, if a pattern emerges thats when I choose to take action, be it talking to them or stopping doing business with them. Hope that helps.

I had a cray cray no show for my massage practice who wrote me a shitty google review claiming I wasn't there...at my OWN practice and did a chargeback for her appointment and won even though I actually had evidence that I took a lyft to my practice space. Luckily the review disappeared after we had a conversation and I pestered google as best I could. All this being said, I have had great success requiring prepayment for appointments and it makes a lot of sense for me since I require an intake form and informed consent form with my cancellation policy that everyone is required to sign, so taking appointments any other way is rather challenging. I had a client today text me exactly 20 hours before her scheduled appointment asking if she had her appointment tomorrow and claiming she needed to cancel then going on to say she had 2 tragic unspecific deaths this week and other life stuff. Because she prepaid and had seen me once before as a client I agreed to reschedule her without requiring her to pay for the next appointment...but it is against my policy that I haven't had to enforce until now. Moving forward I absolutely will enforce it even as a reschedule with lilfe stuff happening, it's not fair to me or clients who could have and would have shown up for that spot.

Hi girl Do you take deposits besides cancellation fee? Our salon currently takes deposits for appts but I sometimes find that scares some clients being in that awkward phone call to book a new appt. I think is the fact that the hairstylist txt message has to do. Personalize no show messages basically saying “ok i know you didn’t show and I have to charge your card 😅 but we still good if you want a new appt” type thing
