A disclaimer: the intention of this video is not to support certain governments or indoctrination of any kind. It simply intends to highlight the effects that ritual can have, and how we can harness this power to improve ourselves. I'm aware that this idea goes against the usual undercurrent of this channel with common themes like acceptance and non-conformity. I'm pretty sure the idea of self-cultivation as presented here will be regarded as 'too simplistic' by mental health professionals. Nevertheless, I think this idea is interesting and I want to keep an open mind (which is what this channel does: exploring ideas). Also, this video is not against counselors and personality tests (au contraire): it reflects on how some people tend to cling to their 'personality types'. Thank you.

There's no "finding yourself", it's only creating yourself and adapt to different roles, mainly work roles. You alone are responsible for who you wish to be and who you do not wish to be, and then manifest that being in the world. This is critical because if you don't define yourself, society will and it will put you into a box/role that they feel is the most appropriate. At that point, you have lost all power over who you are so never fall into that trap. People will always tell you "who you are" but this is not to be taken seriously, as you should just be everything to everyone while focusing on your main role and path in life. At the end of the day, nobody cares what you do so just do whatever you want and don't feel pressured by anyone else and what they are doing. That means that you should also avoid social media like the plague, as it's pure poison and will only make you depressed when comparing yourself to other's "perfect lifestyle" which is of course only a very small portion of their otherwise miserable life like most people. My advice is to focus on your core, strengths, and values and try to find work that is most relatable to those. You have some particular interests, something that you are drawn to, perhaps even a talent that the world needs. If so, it's your duty in life to fulfill those needs. Be all you can be and never be afraid to experiment with yourself and those around you. Remember that life is short so don't waste it on things and people that you don't like.

My cat never works on trying to change herself and she is very happy and content. I have found that trying to change oneself inherent a feeling of self-rejection of who one is. And if one rejects who one is and "what" one is; that feeling brings about negative feelings that projects in one's personality... it prohibits self-love and acceptance. I have found that once one accepts one's self as is; improvements start to show naturally because at that point one isnt working against one's self but from one's self... going with the flow of natural self-expression. .. which could be expressed through rituals ... which becomes a natural manifestation of the self... like my cat sitting at the window every night before she goes to bed. Of course one can improve in natural skills and abilities... but then such things aren't the self. My cat worked to improve her skills but not herself. She doesn't think that there is anything amiss about her (a wise perception) In other words.... YOU are FINE but if you like; you can improve on your skills. Thanks for the video... food for thought. When Stanislavski was building his "system", a way of teaching actors on how to develop characters, he found that although some characters are to be developed from the inward out, ie. built upon the psychology of the character, scenes and emotions can often times be made authentic through repeated action. If you constantly are doing what an angry person would be doing: throwing objects, shouting, cursing at everything, frowning; soon you will find yourself to be angry, even thou you started doing those actions with no internal emotion. Similarly if you laugh and smile artificially long enough soon you find yourself to be genuinely happy. Funnily enough in the 21st century through neuroscience we have found out that our brains are constantly reading our faces to try and decide what emotion we should be feeling. The reflex of smiling is faster than our inner conscious so just doing the act of smiling can lead our brains into thinking that we should feel happiness.

For a while now, I’ve noticed similar patterns in my life that I’ve just chalked up to me being who I am while simultaneously getting frustrated that I am unable to change. My issue has always been talking to people and making connections. I never really did anything about it because I’d talk myself out of social situations often without realising it. I definitely agree with the ‘fake it till you make it’ approach though and have been employing something similar in my life recently to overcome this issue. Sometimes just pretending you’re at least a little bit more confident than you feel can make all the difference.

Both view an individual as a tangled and jumbled mess, with our desires often tugging us in different and often destructive directions. The debate between Taoism and Confucianism has always been about nature versus nurture. Like everything else in life, moderation is key.

If i am what i do then my self view is not seeing the truth. It's holding on to the peak period of my life and thinking i am that person right now. Therefore it skips lessons that are yet to be learned fully. Only because once I have coped with them successfully. But appearantly i didn't fully learn the lesson as it presents itself again and again in other ways still. This means that if my ego doesn't acknowledge what is now..then i am living in a wishful world. Not in the is-world. And my view on what needs to change is not focused on the inside, but expecting change from the outside. That inevitably creates Frustration of some kind or intensity depending on the size of the lesson that yet is to be learned. To protect itself, my ego is ignorant of what is. Maybe it just didn't know yet how to see/interpret >what is< correctly. Maybe the thought that the peak moments define the self was what was holding back the lesson and growth. Once again i see the ego is behind it. Life is like playing hide and seek with the ego. Everytime you want to grow, you gotta find where the ego is hidden in that one. Then, get rid of some ego. And the energy flows stronger than ever. Thought I'd journal a bit here. Maybe it helps others as well

KZitem is also a form of social media, and the company uses marketing tactics in the form of algorithms to limit the content they recommend to fit your interests, and with that your access to unbiased and nuanced views. You won't be informed better, you'll just get pushed into the ideology you have affinity with without you noticing it, or giving you a way to form your own opinion. Don't get me wrong, they won't force you towards a way they're paid for, because their income is depending on your attention spanne and time invested on watching their videos. So they'll present you anything to keep you watching, while also extremely but discretely polarizing global societies.

Another great video. Thank you. I totally agree with what you are saying here. When I was a professional musician I was just that. Nothing else would distract me with the task in hand. The gigs dried up and it became harder to find a band as the music business, as we knew it at that time, emploded. Now I have taken up Ki Gong and started to teach it. I have been building on my skill set now and am now producing educational webinars and also running a You Tube channel (and this isn't a plug by the way) to help me talk about my new found knowledge. I have been taught through the Tao philosophy from Korea, which originates in Sundo. It seems that the conciusions from all the Asian Eastern countries are much the same in many of there creeds and rituals. Knowwledge is a facinating journey and I look forward to your videos. Thank you for sharing. :)

The heart of the issue is the modern western fascination with authenticity expressed through individualism. Asian cultures recognize there is no distinct, authentic self to grasp, and that it's more important that we embrace good habits and customs.

Becoming is more important then being, that is some of what i`ve learnt from reading Nietzsche and Heralictus, but after i started to train martial arts, i have slowly but surely found my way back to interests of stoicism, bushido philosophy, and other eastern thought because i do train a martial art that isn`t connected to some philosophy, but i have returned because i do think that reading this type of philosophy will perhaps change my mindset even more. So that my progress will come even faster

That's why we feel hurt and we hurt other people sometimes because, we see ourselves that we are only limited or we say that 'I am only just like this' and that's why people should accept us of who we are and what we are. But yeah, according to the video, we can change ourselves to BECOME better by CULTIVATING ourselves.

There is something to the notion of fake it till you make it but I'd rather argue for being authentic than inauthentic at the end of the day. That is if you want to be admired and respected. To each its own I guess.

The idea of becoming which is a non-fact leads us away from dealing with what 'is'. If a man is greedy and one day he believes he should no longer be greedy says I will become less greedy tomorrow, why not just see the fact that one is greedy, observe greed with no judgement once it is understood greed is no more and generosity comes naturally without trying to cultivate it this is meditation.

The beginning of the video teaches being "true to ourselves," while toward the end it's saying "fake it until you make it." Questions: Can inauthenticity produce authenticity in the end?

Yep. Change is a process, it very rarely happens all at once. Some will need to employ the "Fake it till you Make it" strategy to change their lives for the better.
@VergilSFD

"Faking it until you make it," will eventually lead (someone genuinely dedicated to self-improvement) down a path where they will realize why exactly "Faking it" is not working. Failing to "Fake it until you make it" and learning about ourselves through the short-comings of that process can actually open up the actual path. Of course, "Faking It" without any intention to truly improve and instead doing it to merely blend in will lead them to never changing, but perhaps their real goal was never to improve at all. So the answer is, Yes and No, because a sincere person can use (and will use) a variety of methods to achieve self-improvement. Instead of "Faking," I would instead ask myself why exactly is "what I want to be" not already what I am. I've learned a lot about my Natural-Self versus my Societal/Ego-Self through doing so and was able to iron out many of my personal weaknesses.

I would like to add that spiritualism takes this a step further as your dreams show you who you can be. Thus there is a blueprint for who you are striving for.

INFJ, 5w4, HSP, ADHD etc. - yet no clue who I am or who should I strive to become. All I know, that some habits are preferable according to my values and some are not. I cannot even explain why I like some things or dispise them. I just be as person who is too conscious about everything and yet knows nothing and aimless in the grey sea of the universe without a sail and a destination.

What we think of ourselves has an immense ability to limit us. When we operate on the basis of perceived social identity, we keep ourselves from changing and growing.
