Kibbe is really not that complicated, especially if you start with your height to narrow it down. For example, if you are under 5'5" you can really only be Soft Natural, Romantic, Soft Classic, or a Gamine type. Aly Art's videos break it all down in a really helpful way.

So agree with the straight/romantic comparison. I’m a romantic but never resonated with the suggestions of ornate hyper-femme. I always thought Marilyn Monroe never wore those ornate shapes and patterns, always curvy but never flowy or frou frou. I always thought it was strange that she is the kibbe romantic archetype but doesn’t dress in those kibbe lines.
@Morslatke

She's a Romantic bc her flesh is soft, and her frame isn't dominant. She wears perfect R lines, which is why she's the R archetype! Ornate and hyper-femme is more for TR or SD. TR wears more details, and SD can wear larger, more extravagant lines. R is simpler.

I'm a Kibbe soft classic and none of the three types in the video describe me, neither do the suggested clothes choices. I think for people who are in between two Kibbe types or are unsure what Kibbe type they are can find this very helpful though. For me, Kibbe SC is just spot on and therefore I can easily identify with it. Overall I think that while Kibbe might be confusing to some people, it offers a broader variety and thus more differentiated system. But for those who find themselves not fitting any Kibbe type the simpler system is probably great.
@superbettynow

I believe myself to be a soft classic and I also don't fit into any of these three - primarily because I am very short waisted. @TSD0416

@@superbettynow I'm also a Kibbe Soft Classic, short waisted, 5'3" tall and a bit overweight. On top of it I'm warm Autumn with olive skin tone. You cannot imagine what a difficult time I have shopping for clothes that would fit me and colour-wise would look good on me. However, once I understood the seasonal colouring and Kibbe body system I became very aware of things that don't work for me and instead of getting annoyed and frustrated, I just avoid shopping clothes that don't work for me. Case in point, the purple Sheath dress that I bought back in 2020. It was just before the pandemic lockdown and one cold winter day, during lunch time, as I was walking around downtown Toronto, I walked into Nordstrom to warm up and there I saw a very beautiful dress on a Mannequin and in that moment I thought to myself, I have to have this dress in my life. I looked at the price tag and it was marked down to $35 dollars....naturally I bought it without any hesitations. The dress is a midi length, straight sheath dress with collar, long sleeves, cuffs, buttons and a belt. The fabric has Tartan Plaid pattern in purple and gold yellow, and is absolutely stunning. To say this dress is the perfect office dress is an understatement. I wore it once to the office and never again. I thought I was going to get a lot of compliments that day, but instead everybody in the office turned into a fashion critic and gave me crap for wearing that dress. I learned a valuable lesson, that just because a dress looks good on someone else, does not mean that it will also look good on me. After that traumatizing day I came across the Kibbe body type and seasonal colouring and now I can see why that dress did not work on me and will never work on me in a million years. Here is a website that helped me select the right choices and be selective during my clothes shopping. Hope it helps you as much as it helped me. It is called "Sew your Kibbe". On the main page you can find all the Kibbe body types which is this link doctortdesigns.com/wardrobe-planning/sew-your-kibbe/. For the Soft classic you can use this link doctortdesigns.com/2018/12/03/sew-your-kibbe-soft-classic/. If the link doesn't work just google "Sew Your Kibbe" and you'll find the web page. I feel similarly! I’m quite tall too and I’ve considered all the aspects that the kibbe system categorises, vertical line, kibbe width, petite, balance, curve and double curve. I still find double curve a little confusing to judge on myself so I won’t make a distinction here. I don’t feel cut off if I don’t dress for a long vertical line, I also don’t get easily swallowed up by oversized clothes like a petite person might. I don’t have to consider accommodating width, and I don’t identify with either the high contrast looks of the gamine or with the need for balance and simplicity of classics. The only thing I need to worry about in terms of silhouette is waist emphasis, and all my fit issues come from my curves. Which should make me a romantic type but I can’t be one because of my height 🤷🏼♀️ I just don’t know what to make of it, but here I can see that I mostly fit into the straight type

Hi! I’ve studied at Yumiko Futagami’s school for the skeletal diagnosis, and is curious about Kibbe body type so am watching your content. I think that the dramatic classic will be classified in the straight type, as the skeletal diagnosis has only 3 types, there are more diversity within the types. The skeletal diagnosis is more about how to honor your body balance and how to accommodate it by choosing the shape and fabric of the clothes and isn’t about the design or taste of the clothes. I thought the Kibbe body types are more about the design and the taste so maybe that‘s the most different part? A wave type can wear a jacket too, but they should accommodate it by choosing a softer material, or unbutton it and wear a high waist skirt (or pants) inside. Thank you for introducing the skeletal diagnosis and am looking forward for your videos!

Thanks, this was actually helpful for me as a tall woman with curves I’d kind of settled on SD, but I am just slightly more straight than curve, which makes me more of a Dramatic. This explains why these clean strong lines really work on me, but also why I do well with some ‘curve’ accommodation and bold accessories. It kind of helps to consider myself in relation to friends since we may both be the same or similar type with important variations, making us not wear quite the same best clothes.

I live in Japan and know this theory from the first time this lady invented it. It is too simple and cannot cover all body types. Why it is popular in Japan is because vastly majority of them are in triangle or rectangle shape. Except for some professional models, they do not have hourglass or pear body types. In other words, they have a very small hip and no caves from waist to bottom. I am Asian, non-Japanese, pear body type, so this theory never works for me. Even if you are Asian like me, unless your body type is apple or rectangle, this three-types theory does not work at all.

Even “where one gains fat “ changes with age and, of course, one’s weight really affects any body-shape typing. Beginning in my 40s, I watched my waist area just continue to thicken and thicken, even though I wasn’t gaining weight. I’m normal weight (BMI of 20), but I sometimes worry about this unhealthy visceral fat around my middle. In my youth, when I couldn’t keep my weight up to a healthy level, I was typed much differently in body shape, than in my heavier years, or now that I’m at health-ideal weight. But, I have a tiny frame and minimal musculature, so I think I should weigh 15-20 lbs. less than this ideal weight. I think I have more fat than a woman of the same height and weight who has an average to sturdier frame would, it just doesn’t show as much because of my small frame. This year I had to buy a whole new wardrobe because of significant aging-related weight loss, so I’m not sure I want to let myself lose more weight at this point. The expense of all-new clothes was killer, I needed everything except for socks, footwear and accessories. I can’t deny that buying it was tons of fun, though.🙂

I would prefer systems that stayed away from using natural, classic etc if you are trying to determine your silhouette & proportions. Body type & style essence don't always line up, especially now that in general fashion is more relaxed & casual. Soooooo, most people need some structure/tailoring to their clothing. That can be accomplished with pleats, darts, waistbands, etc. As for pattern & texture, probably best to keep it in proportion to the wearer. A small print on a large body or vice versa could look off (unless that's what you're going for)

I think I do understand the Kibbe system quite well by now and this one is a bit confusing to me to be honest. I do not understand the straight or wave type at all. The natural makes sense to me though. I am FN in Kibbe and still, by that test, am natural an this system too. But the other two types? I really don't understand their structure and it doesn't make much sense to me right now. Which doesn't mean I say it's wrong, I just would have to get deeper into it, to understand it. What I did think in the very beginning of the video is: It makes sense because there are mainly straight or curved types in Kibbe. Unless you're balanced and a Classic. But any other type either has curves or is rather straight. What I am missing here is considering length (Kibbe vertical) or petite. But considering this being a japanese system, it does make sense. I am from Germany and by now we have all different sizes, shapes, colorings, body types, heights and looks around here. We have tiny women with the most doll-like faces and also very tall women with sharp and intimidating vibes. I feel like here are so many beautiful and facetted types of people that you can not say what's the most common in our country anymore. But I might fall into a rather amazonian type. My mom, my aunt, my cousin and I all have straight shoulders, a wide upper back, blunt and big bones, are all frame dominant and have some elements of various essences within ourselves. My cousin is more of a dramatic essence, my aunt predominantly seems to be from natural essence, my mom has a huge amount of ingenue and ethereal and I am pretty sure I do have some gamine and a tad bit of dramatic within me too (but that dramatic doesn't show that much in regular situations so I don't really accomodate it in my styling). What I find quite interesting: I had a girl at school and her body type is either the tallest possible FN or even dramatic. Her face though... flat, wide, rather doll like, if you know what I mean. She's always been very pretty and always had that cute face. Nowadays she looks a bit more mature, but hey, we're not in our 20's anymore. She's still pretty and her body type is still a bit confusing to me. I can't tell you what she might be, but she has this classic appearance to her too. Maybe she has classic essence, because her body doesn't seam balanced to me. She's pretty and dresses well. I'd also love to know her seasonal color palette. She's very light, has beautifully green eyes and naturally blonde hair. I do think she's on the cool side though. Has these light grey-taupe freckles on her face. I always hated the fact that she got bullied because she was already VERY tall at the age of 12. I myself got bullied because I was 168cm tall at the age of 14. And she always said "next to you I don't appear all that odd anymore, can you please just walk beside me?" and we actually became friends due to that. She's over 180cm tall and could have been a model if she'd wanted to. I love all these systems, really. Not because I wanna compare, because I wanna understand shapes, silhouettes and visual effects certain types of styling can have. It's a fun topic for me and one I really can get carried away with.

I think these two systems just work on the opposite principles - Kibbe aims to emphasize natural characteristics of each body, and this system tries to bring it all to some general idea of a balanced body shape by hiding whatever is standing out.

The 2 sistems are confusing for me. I'm 5,8 of height, but my body is wavy, no curvy. I'm soft and wavy to be a dramatic, so narrow to be a FN and no enought curvy to be a SD, because i'm tall, skinny, but wavy.

Actually, Ms Futakami herself asserts there is no mixed type. Here's the link: kzitem.info/news/bejne/wqKP3Kl-eoOClHYsi=J0x0pBGFxmuaVhL1 I became interested in this system some time ago and I've watched dozens of videos on this topic, and my impression is that when asked, Japanese specialists choose one convenient parameter, declare it the most important and say it decides the type. In some cases I personally find it even more confusing, because it doesn't encompass the variety of body types, especially outside of Japan.

I’m definitely the straight type - a dramatic classic. However I’m not voluptuous, and my bust tends to be a bit lower, not higher. But I do have the high hip/ short torso. This creates a problem, having a short waist and lower bust. There is no room in the middle. So I can’t tuck shirts in, which would give me a cleaner line. I’m learning that dresses are better than skirts and tops. It’s tough to find them though.

You are doing a great job! However... 😉this system just proves my take on Kibbe, I don't fit neatly into the defined buckets! 😆 Examples: I am 5'5", small head (I look tall), long neck, delicate & boney, very high waisted & high, small bust, very long rise (waist to crotch, I need 12" rise in jeans to fit my body), prominent violin hips (AKA hip dips). In this Asian system I would be a Wave, but in Kibbe I'm torn between Flamboyant Gamine and Dramatic Classic (opposite clothing recommendations). I resemble Audrey Hepburn in many ways. Where's my bucket? 😆

@@stylerefinement thx, yes, but... 😉... Wave is not a good fit for high chest & waist, and I've even seen a few comments over the years that Audrey might have actually been taller (5'7"), and might really be more of a Dramatic Classic. 🤷 So I remain a bucket skeptic. 💖 your channel.

Hm, I got Wave, all B's, but cannot be classified "petite" in any way due to my height, 174 cm...? Or my "usual" body type, so I'm a bit confused ;) (In Kibbe I'm probably SN, FN or SD, but having a very hard time figuring it out.)

I don't think that these body types have anything to do with height (there are tall Waves out there), but more so how sharp / narrow / delicate your bone structure is! Interesting to hear that you suspect to be a Natural in Kibbe and also got all B's in your answers, because being a Kibbe Natural would mean your bone structure is blunt (actually in both systems I think you'd have blunt bone structure 😄)
@florenna

@@stylerefinement Well, maybe I'm not a Natural at all, it's just my height that seems to shove me in there ;) (which I why I don't like Kibbe much, anyway). In the Kibbe quiz, I got mostly C's for bone structure, but as you see I'm too tall for a Classic in Kibbe. Confusing! But I answered all the questions honestly in this 3 body body type quiz, all B's, and am definitely a Wave in it.

I fit into natural with almost all Cs, but oversized clothing and thicker fabrics as a rule tend to look really bad on me. I have a pretty standard rule that my garments need to be tailored, and if I'm wearing anything with any flow, it needs balance with something structured, tight, and revealing, (chiffon shirt with short skirt, long skirts paired with a low cut blouse, etc.). Heavy fabrics make me look frumpy and about 30 pounds heavier than I am.

Funny, I very clearly fall into the wave type - long neck, long torso, delicate small bone structure - but I am a classic (leaning dramatic classic) in kibbe. The recommendations that have to do with long neck and long torso are correct for me (boat necks, high waisted skirts and pants) but the recommendations for fabric type and patterns are a bit iffy. I do think I look good in flowy girly skirts in solid colors, but anything poofy or overly intricate like lace looks silly.

It’s hard for me to fit into body types, I’m essentially evenly-proportioned, straight and narrow, but then I have a (naturally) large, curvy bust, close friends have askedabout. I don’t have any waist/hip curve at all, this so pronounced that I can’t find pants that don’t just fall down off my skinny hips! The majority of women are more pear-shaped, in that they have nice beautiful, feminine curves. Curvy on top, boyish on the bottom? I don’t know how this happened, the other women in my family have lovely rounded hips, tiny waists and are completely flat-chested! The mystery of DNA combinations, I suppose.
