Please go ahead, except for weight, there are no cons in Africa Twin. All adv motorcycles in this category weigh above 230 kg. Triumph - Service cost is a bomb, I heard a lot of scary stories in various forums. BMW GS - Same, service cost is high and dealer network is low. Ducati - no idea (I heard Desert X is a good motorcycle). Harley - being a new motorcycle, there is no track record, so we need to wait from a reliability point of view. KTM - no motorcycle available in this category in India, need to wait until this year whether it will be launched (but seat height will be higher).

You are mistaken if you think you'll get cheap service from Honda for an Africa Twin. First, it'll only be serviced at Big Wing, and second, Honda service is cheap only because most the bikes they do service are cheap as well. Service for this bike will be pretty expensive as well.

This is fabulous and super well timed.. I too am in the market for my 1st super road tourer. ( very lill off-road) Torn between Africa auto trans in traffic and easier repairs Vs BMW 1250 gs. Super comfy suspension and seat along with quasi auto trans via clutch less quick shifter autoblipper Which doesn't work in bumper to bumper traffic

1. Dear confused Strell, if you feel like you should take the AT, if you're okay with managing the weight, then *YES BY ALL MEANS!* The way I see it, it's an almost perfect litre class ADV :) But you choose what you're comfortable with. Dropping it is of course a concern. Good luck :) 2. Points about the "Honda fanboy" thing are noted and agreed :)

Strell, you have tried bmw f 850 GSA as well and Honda's AT as well... I guess in the same range Triump Tiger 900 rally and rally pro also comes up in terms of power and capacity. But I think being Honda's reliability it's good to go with Honda's AT but BMW F 850 GSA stands out as well in the segment and cost efficient too. Triump Tiger 900 series is light and tall bike but yeahh as you say ride it before you buy it.

Strell, if you're planning on an ADV nearing litre class or beyond, go for Africa Twin. I'm a living proof of an extraordinary relationship between a man and machine for ~35,000kms. Some include extreme offroading. Happy to have a chat if it helps.

I think the Ducati Desert X is the best ADV in the segment by far, but they are pretty greedy. The GS is still amazing, and they do have 24/7 Roadside assistance, but they will take your soul as payment. I think the best choice for an offroader might be the upcoming Vstrom 800 DE. There's also the Tiger 900.

With 91Ps, 75Nm, 21 inch front wheel & 208kg Tansalp 750 is going to a great motorcycle for Indian off roaders. But the question is 1. When they are launching it 2. What isgoing to be pricing (based on the existing Honda pricing strategies )

@@iamstrell Translap 750? Honda company treat Indians as second class customers. If they were planning that, they would have already launched CB 750 DCT here. Look at CL 300 that got launched this week, that scrambler will never reach indian shores, nor do the CRF. Really wish for the CRF series, here in India. Some wishes are so good that it won't happen.

@@kiranlotus6545 -- You have to think from Honda's point of view as well. Spending money training their engineers and technical staff when barely anyone will buy their bikes -- why will they release every model in India? Most people end up buying crap from KTM and RE over Japanese brands. And then there are the Yamaha R15 Squids. Which market will they want to penetrate? How many of your family members & friends you know who own Rs.5,00,000+ bikes? Probably not more than 2. They run a business, and past sales figures and reception in Indian market has told them its not worth the headache competing in all segments. I'm surprised they still have the Africa Twin being sold here. Most people say they love the Africa Twin, but end up getting a BMW 850 GSA or 1250 GSA. So why will Honda give special treatment to Indian market when they've seen the sales figures over the years? 🤷♂ I wouldn't. It sucks, but its reality.

Also, consider keeping a manual bike as a second bike, like a MSX125 Grom or something like that. They're fun & great as a runaround & will keep your gear-shifting skills current. Groms are very low maintenance, just make sure you change the oil & filters regularly.
