As the doctor said, parents need full information. In this case things looked favourable for separation. That's not always the case. There's more experience of helping tiny babies now which is good.

I’m a former NICU nurse. I totally cried watching this. Science is amazing, but combine that with teams that show grace, patience and kindness, there really are miracles. And love. Can’t forget that.

The first person who spoke, bravo. The fact they were told to terminate by a specialist before going to CHOP really breaks my heart. Love that CHOP gave all the education possible and empowered them to make a decision! My hope is as a culture we can evolve away from the recommendation of terminating first with all the advances we’re making in healthcare.

You are such a wonderful couple and parents! I have grown fraternal daughters who were born 8 weeks premature. Thanks to God’s mercy they thrived. How beautiful your little boys are. May they and your other children always give you joy. Those little boys of yours have stolen this grandmothers heart!

Thank you for sharing this video! I am so happy for Amari, Javar and their family/friends. I'm not at all surprised everything went well. CHOP is an incredible hospital. 20 years ago, 18 specialists couldn't figure out what was wrong with my then 14 year old daughter. 30 minutes after our initial appointment at CHOP, she had a diagnosis, medication and help. She treated at CHOP on a regular basis for 2 years until her illness finally ended and is perfectly healthy now thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at CHOP. Congrats again Amari and Javar! Best wishes to you both

Maternal fetal medicine physicians are so amazing to work with. What they do for patients facing difficult conditions gives them a pathway to understand what is going to happen in best case and worst case scenario. Really heroes in my eyes.

What a wonderful gift of healing all the doctors and nurses are blessed with - Saving the lives of precious babies must be the most wonderful thing in the world. I wonder if Javar and Amari have memories of being conjoined and if because of being conjoined, they have an even deeper bond that is usual with twins?

I appreciate the acknowledgment that dads can have postpartum depression, especially if they feel like they’re as useful as a chocolate teapot and have had to go back to work early due to lack of paid paternity leave. On top of that if their partner is struggling with life with a newborn and they don’t know what to do or how to help especially when their partner is exclusively breast feeding, so dad can’t do a bottle, nappy change and settle at night so mum can sleep a bit more.

Let me begin by saying how much I feel for mothers who deal with complications. My sister gave birth to her stillborn son at 36 weeks. I do have to say that pregnancy and birth aren’t dangerous and complicated…yes it does happen, but a healthy well nourished mother is very unlikely to experience problems when she is left to birth in peace without anyone watching or prodding her.

Do we talk about postpartal depression as a mental health condition? This is a physiological reaction for a mother who does not have her children at her body. Of course this is a very stressful situation in pregnancy and after and needs mental support, but I want to point put for other mothers: weeping when I do not have my newborn child with me is made by nature, when the child´s life did depend on a mother being there all the time and carrying around her child in the times we still were nomads

True, but for some postpartum depression can include really scary hallucinations and beyond-regular mood swings. That the care team jumped on any feelings of depression or even mourning was so important to the family. It paves the way to be able to love your child.
