Problem is the cap is flawed as the clip makes it not air tight so the nib will dry out. Also exposed metal if you decide to eyedropper it.

I am sorry to hear you had trouble with yours. I didn't run into that issue. How long did it take for the nib to dry out?

I have just started back into FPs. Started with a Parker IM Prestige (M) and was a bit underwhelmed. It's Ok, but,..... So I bought the big fat Conklin All American in F (in Brownstone, a surprisingly darker colour style that grows on you) and wow, what a difference. I like pretty much everything about it. It sits well in my not so large hands even tho it's a big pen and I just love the way the JOWO #6 F nib performs. I certainly agree with most of your review, it would have been nice to have read it before the impulse buy of the All America, however, and happily, it would have reinforced the decision to buy.Based on my sample set of 2, highly recommended.

Thank you for the comment Kevin! Happy to hear you are enjoying fountain pens again. The All American is a great pen and very comfortable to hold.

@@BlakesBroadcast Hi Blake, Fine nib was a bit Fine for me. Swapped out for a Conklin JOWO #6 Medium. It was very poor skipping randomly (same ink, same setup). Personally I think it's the nib. Returned pen to vendor (was told Conklin have a lifetime guarantee). Awaiting a response. Having said that I miss the pen (using a Parker IM Prestige Fine nib just to keep the fountain pen vibe going).

How do you take apart the cap? I have a Conlin All American Courage and there's dried Copper Noir ink between the cap and inner cap. You can see it through the clear parts.

I have not tried to take apart the cap and I've since given the pen away.

This is the nicest looking All-American I’ve seen so far. I have the Sunburst Orange pen, which I rarely use. I always liked the All-American’s all round dimensions (size, length, girth, feel in hand)…Alas, Conklin, like Monteverde, is just awfully hit & miss affairs. It’s been that way for many years already. Conklin’s nibs (and feeds) have invariably been pretty abysmal. The Omniflex was an outright marketing gimmick and invariably an underwhelming dud, to put it kindly. Even the change to Jowo hasn’t apparently made a world of difference to the performance and value of the current Conklin pens. But then I’m not a big fan of Jowo anyway. You’re right; $115 is stretch for this pen. The Conklin pens I like best are the vintage ones I own. Of the modern, made-overseas pens I have been lucky to get good nibs out of the box on the Heritage Word Gauge and Crescent Filler pens. Luck of the draw, I guess. These two are also the two modern Conklin pens I like most. Your demo pen is, like I said, very appealing. And seems to write fairly well. A decent stock nib would be just about good enough for me. Btw, the nib size is stamped on one side of the nib. As in the Sailor gold nibs. A stub says 1.1 or 1.5. Kudos for the fine, honest review, Blake.

Hi Sajjad, thank you for the comment! I don't know how I missed that nib marking. I haven't had a Monteverde in a really long time (it's probably been more than 15 years) so I can't really comment on those. This Conklin is quite nice though. I like the design but I do think the fit and finish on the resin body could be slightly better in this price range. I haven't had any bad Jowo nibs...at least not that I can think of. I am sure they are out there because they make so many but I've found them to be great performers for me. If you asked me to pick between a stock untested Jowo or Bock nib, I'll pick Jowo every time. Some of my favorite pens have Bock nibs but I've had many that needed adjustments.

@@BlakesBroadcast ..Thanks for always replying, Blake. Ha, I can assure you Monteverde pens are a total lottery, so you have done well to spend your dollars elsewhere. Jowo nibs just bore me with their monotony and average writing experience. They are normally reliable, but just lackluster to me. Bock nibs are definitely less reliable, but when they are good, they are extremely good - better than anything Jowo offers (again in my own experience). There’s also the fact that a majority of my pens are Aurora and the Japanese brands (1/2 of my collection of 90). And also vintage Sheaffer, Waterman, Esterbrook and others. I currently have only a dozen pens with Bock or Jowo nibs. So, I’ve been spoilt in a sense in using nibs that are made in-house by the brands I buy from. As for the Conklin, your missing the nib size marking is understandable. It’s scarcely noticeable. You need a loupe to correctly see the mark anyway. This demo pen ought to have been $90 max (granting it some slack for being a limited edition release) given that the other are around $75. Also, the All-American moniker is a sad ruse. It would be apt if they were really made in America. These pens are made overseas, mainly in China or Taiwan. The Heritage Word Gauge pen that I like so much is made in Italy.

Thanks for sharing from this brand. I have less idea about their modern pens. Its a shame that All American pen is made outside. I would pay a higher price if it is made in USA. Is it made in China?

Mine came with a lot of uneven and very visible glue on all the joining parts. I contacted them and was told it's endemic to the pen, and they're all like that, so they couldn't send me a replacement. Very disappointing tbh.
