Do you like mountains? Then this video is for you. You will see our ascent to the highest peak of the Czech Republic - Mount Sněžka. This is the highest peak of the Karkonosze and the Sudetes at 1602 meters above sea level, it is also called the queen of the Karkonosze.
Most of the year on the mountain is very harsh weather conditions. From here comes the name of the mountain.

We chose the most scenic, but also the longest yellow route. After all, we need to show you all the beauty of these mountains. The route begins in the town Karpacz near the church Wang, where there is also the entrance to the Karkonosze Reserve. Here you can buy entrance tickets. You can also buy a ticket online. The ascent begins from the mountain forest.
Sněžka is an incredibly windy place. The maximum wind speed exceeded 65 m/s, i.e. over 230 km / h, and wind gusts approaching 300 km / h.
Because of the strong wind in the mountains, the sound quality in the video is poor. But hopefully this will not stop you from enjoying this video. In addition, it is quite a cool place - the average temperature for the year is barely over 0 degrees.
And here is the first attraction - a glade with incredible views of the mountains. The trail here is often replaced by a comfortable wooden bridge. Then begins a more difficult and steep climb. After about 30 minutes, one can see an unusual rock formation called Pilgrims, up to 25 meters high. A little further, after about 40 minutes, we will reach the next rock formation Sunflower. These rocks are lower than the Pilgrims, with a height of only 12.5 meters. But the number of tourists on the order of an order of magnitude more. Here crosses several routes.
From Sunflower begins a fairly flat, pleasant and full of beautiful views, which we will walk slowly for about 1.5 hours to the Silesian House. On this trail we can admire the beautiful mountain lakes. Already from here we can see the very top of Sněžka.
Near the Silesian House you can see the crowds. Here, too, several trails intersect. Here you can warm up a bit and rest. The last meters to the top are the hardest. You can't breathe, you can't feel your toes. The wind in your face makes it difficult to climb. And the section of the march is very steep.
Here is the long-awaited goal - the peak. We did it! Warm lunch was just in time. We took some hot soup, sandwiches, and warm tea.
At the very top of the mountain is the calling card of Sněžka - the High Mountain Meteorological Observatory. Tadeusz Holdis. Its futuristic silhouettes look more like a space station on the moon. There is also the chapel of St. Lawrence, the patron saint of mountain guides. It dates back to the 17th century (1681), and from that time began the pilgrimage and tourist traffic on Sněžka.
Sněžka has a specific climate, similar to that of the Arctic Circle. Very strong winds blow all year round. And almost half the year the temperature is below zero. We are lucky. The weather is sunny, so visibility is excellent. And the mountain scenery is inspiring. It's worth traveling for these moments.
At the top of the mountain is the border between Poland and the Czech Republic.
Many people think that the conquest of the top is the most difficult. But those who have conquered the mountain at least once know that the most difficult thing is the way back. We decided to go down the Black route. It is the shortest route, but not very picturesque, because visibility is limited, and the descent is steep and monotonous. The whole descent took about 2 hours, about 6 km.
Don't repeat my mistakes - never go to the mountains in uncomfortable shoes. If you are not fans of mountain extreme, the easiest thing for you to do part of the way to Kopa on the cable car Zbyszek.
We finally made it down. The long-awaited lower station of the cable car to Kopa. Not far from the cable car station an incredible surprise awaited us - Karpacz Waterfall - Wild Waterfall. After spending a few minutes near the waterfall, I completely forgot about fatigue.
Conquering Sněžka will forever remain in our memory. It's moments like that that make up life! And if you have the opportunity, be sure to do it! I hope you enjoyed this adventure. Don't forget to subscribe and like it with a comment.
