Okay....If you look back you'll find a video detailing my Hybrid Leadcore Rig...Basically I run two...They both utilize 20 lb braid backing....3 colors of 12 to 15 lb leadcore and a topshot...On the "deep rig" for fishing 15 to 30 feet down I have a topshot of 20 feet of 20 lb fluorocarbon tipped with a 48 inch leader consisting of 8 to 10 lb fluoro....For my shallow rig for fishing from the surface to about 10 feet deep everything is the same expect instead of 20 feet of 20 pound I triple that to 60 feet...This allows me to fish say 5 feet deep, but still have the bait a good distance behind the boat....I hope this makes sense....Thanks Les...

I’ve been trolling with the metallic perch pattern Needlefish this year. I add some pro cure and send it down. The trout absolutely hammer that lure! I get a lot of nibbles on the wedding ring but the Needlefish just gets slammed.

also known as eaglefish1, Hey Cal! On your frog colored needle fish use your tiny paint brush or paint pen & put a small dot of red in the center of the black spots, makes a huge difference in your number of strikes!! Just a tip from an "Old guy" & thanks for the hat at the sports show, Rick

Sorry but I 'am not sure what you mean by topshot. I use 18 lb leadcore with 10 lb mono for the stretch for the koks soft mouth. My leader from the dodger or flashers is floro at 8 lb. We can go out up to 8 colors when they go deep to find cold water and looking for lakers. Do you ever jig for koks or not? We do some times and use braided line with a line counter reel and still learning how. I also run a side planer with some good days and some not. The downrigger is on the port side and some times is real hot!! Well Cal thanks for your time and I will try to find the video on Hybrid Leadcore Rig.

Hey Les...Yep we do jig for them at times...Sounds like you are using a more traditional leadcore rig than I am....Here is a link to that video... kzitem.info/news/bejne/yoOr1KKPfZl2lWk

When trolling from a small boat, kayak or canoe, how do you judge depth without a down rigger? I know there’s variables like weights and speed, but if a person is trolling around that 2mph+/-, what would be a good start of amount of line to let out?

Have had a peened copper with orange striped crocodile for years. I've caught so many trout on it that the orange paint is almost gone. Thanks for your vids Cal. You make me get off the couch and get out there.

what should you look for between a buggy looking lake and a bait fish looking lake?/ don`t all lakes have bugs and live bait fish in it?
@FHSTackle
5 жыл бұрын
Yes usually, but in some lakes the fish feed mainly on bugs and in others it's mainly baitfish. Most of the baitfish lakes I refer to are big deep impoundments where the trout feed on schools of either pond smelt or shad in open water...Shasta, Don Pedro and Folsom are good examples of this....

Do you trail a worm on your needlefish?
@FHSTackle
5 жыл бұрын
You certainly can...Just keep it small enough that it doesn't effect the action of the lure.....
