After the Gaza-Israel conflict, the number of antisemitic hate crimes increased sharply in the UK, according to data obtained through freedom of information requests. The findings reveal a significant jump in incidents for several large police forces.
Notable increases include Greater Manchester police recording 74 antisemitic offences (compared to 15 in 2022), West Yorkshire police recording 53 (compared to 10 in 2022), West Midlands police recording 22 (compared to 1 in 2022), Merseyside police recording 20 (compared to 4 in 2022), and British Transport police recording 87 (compared to 8 in 2022).
Islamophobic offences also rose in some areas, with West Yorkshire recording 49 (up from 29 in 2022), British Transport police recording 22 (up from 2 in 2022), and Greater Manchester police recording 34 (compared to 43 in 2022).
These statistics highlight the concerning trend of hate crimes during this period, prompting a call for increased efforts to combat discrimination and promote inclusivity.
