Take the 14-150 and bring a small bright prime just in case. Ultimately no one will notice the difference in any of these as long as they're composed and exposed properly.

I was able to purchase a used 14-150 for $150 and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I have the 12-40 and 40-150 f/2.8 pro lenses but I bought the 14-150 for those times when I want to have a really light kit and am sightseeing with the wife or just want to take along a camera when we're out and about. I think taking along one of the f/1.8 prime lenses is a good idea, and they're so small that I can see taking my 17mm and 45mm prime lenses along and it would still be a small kit, especially if I use my M10 Mark II rather then my M1 Mark II. Your review was very informative and made me happy that I took a chance on buying the 14-150 lens. Thanks!

Aye! You’ll be visiting my neck of the woods. I was hoping to make it to Valhalla but I’ll be stuck at work. Hope you enjoy your trip here!

I've been using the 14-150 mm lens for a few years, mainly for shooting fishing videos. This lens is very versatile and gives very good image quality. I've already done comparisons at 150mm with my 40-150 2.8 lens, and the difference was minimal. I really like this lens.

Interesting results and useful video, thank you. I have also tried a similar comparison with the Panasonic 35-100 f4-f5.6 which is a very sharp lens and only $260 retail. There are some amazingly sharp optics that are not expensive. You do lose the weather sealing, fast aperture and some minor contrast compared to the more expensive leneses, but sometimes the difference may not be worth the price gap to some photographers.

Nice job on this comparison. I’d take the 14-150 and call it a day. Let’s get you to 6k…

I was surprised how good recording with the OM5 looked when using the 14-150ii in your intro…winner! And I guess that means you purchased the OM5 once again!

Interesting. I don't have either lens, but I liked the output of the 14-150 II better in your pictures. The extra reach will be good for golf too.

45/1.8 or 75/1.8?

@@ericrjenningsfor travel I’d go with something like the 20mm 1.7 or 25mm. Of those two I’d say 45 because the 75 (as awesome as it is) is a more specialized lens and less of a walk around lens.

12-100 f/4 and 20 f/1.4 is my killer travel combo. As great as they are, the f/1.8 zooms mostly stay at home these days… I could even sell them except for the 40-150 😂

Edge sharpness is very different between the two, especially at 14mm.

I'm excited to see what comes of your 14-150 results. I love full-frame results and image quality, but I just can't help but be frustrated with how big zooms are past 70mm on them. My perpetual camera GAS always revolves around trying to balance maximum image quality with minimum size. They are almost entirely opposed to one another. There is no free lunch.

yeah I've just accepted that full frame will always be primes only for me, the size just isn't worth it unless you're a professional sports photographer or something

It’s interesting that you are back playing with m43. I have the 14-150 also. I agree with everything you said. The 75-300 also punches above its weight in my opinion.

The 75-300 is a really nice lens. I sold my copy after buying the f/2.8 40-150 along with the MC20 converter. But I miss the 75-300 and am thinking about buying another one. That lens along with newer processing software should be able to produce some fantastic images!

Cool to see you coming back to m43. I am on a delayed scheduled as you having recently bought a nikon zf :). I sold my om5 for it but kept most of my lenses. The 15mm 1.7, panaleica 12-60mm, and olympus 45mm 1.8 are special. I am onow for sure that someday I’ll buy a new compact camera for them (hoping for a gx9 successor with new sensor)

I've been wondering about this lens. I tried the 40-150 "plastic fantastic" as a cheap alternative to my 12-100 and wasn't really impressed.

I too thought you had dumped the M43 kits! Question though-have you tried the 12-100 f/4 pro? I have that and the 14-150 mark II and I’m still trying to pick the winner.

I'd definitely throw in one of the primes with a zoom, the whole advantage of MFT is lens size so go for it. In general over the past few years I've grown to appreciate the variable aperture zooms especially the vintage stuff from Nikon and Pentax-F, yeah they aren't sharp wide open generally but even on FF you only shoot these in the daytime and will mostly stop down to F8 or smaller for urban or landscape. On MFT I recently used my wife's Olympus 40-150mm F4-5.6 on a long weekend away and the IQ was very close to the Leica 12-60mm F2.8-4.0, build quality was hugely different obviously...but the images don't show that

Olympus lenses punch well above their weight, especially when you consider the size. Only thing I would not use that lens for it landscapes, it is a bit soft in the corners.
