Thank you for the education on these bike tires. Just received the Vittoria's for a 1996 Trek 5200. You can feel the quality of the graphene technology and they ride smooth. I prefer them over the Continental Gator Skins for spring and summer but those seem like a good all-season choice for a lower price. Thanks for making this video.

Omg I had so much thread come out of my specialized espoir tires that came on my allez. They were only a summer old. Just put on new gatorskin tires. After what you just said I so glad I changed tires. I knew it wasn't good that the thread was coming out n it might pop one day but it was just a thought I didn't know it will happen for sure.

Believe it or not (and this is the truth) my rear tyre exploded last night when the Gatorskin blew through the sidewall ! I fitted new tyres in November and that's it, the winter conditions have quickly written off a new tyre. I am trying some Schwalbe tyres at the moment because they were hanging around in my workshop. Thanks for the comment Ian.

Good to hear the standard Rubino pro's are decent tires. I had Rubino Pro SPEED'S and had a terrible experience with punctures and mileage. Tossed them out at less than 1000 miles, flats almost every other ride. I've had great experience with Continental gp4000's and exceptional mileage out of gatorskins.

Hello . Which ones are more bloated? I have a 28mm Continental Ultra Sport and at 7 atmospheres they inflate to 30mm and therefore barely fit into my bike. Have you noticed the difference between Rubino and Gatorskin or are they the same? Thank.

Good question, I tend not to run my tyres so heavily inflated and prefer a much softer and more comfortable ride ( at the risk of a potential pinch flat) It sounds like your bike frame is set up for 25mm's which may expand to 26+mm. I have never looked at the clearance on my bikes or had a concern about them as I have always chosen the optimum size for my requirements and for what the bike is designed for. I really do like Rubino tyres but I've always found that the tread will wear out much quicker than the sidewalls, whereas with all gator skins the tread remains pretty good but the sidewalls start to go way to soon.

How about a comparison between Vittoria Rubino Pro G2 vs Continental Grand Sports Race? I'm looking for something that is puncture resistant since I'm from India and the road conditions are pretty rough here, lot of tiny gravels here and there and it gets worse during monsoons.

I had gatorskins on my old road bike not overly impressed with the grip levels the vittoria pro IV on my new bike seem better in terms of grip but I'm guessing the softer compound means they'll wear faster which is fine i would much sooner have grip than mileage.

Could the cause of the gatorskin sidewall wear ne that you been running the tyre at a lower pressure than recommended? I was thinking of running wider tyres, and curious about the hardshell at lower pressure opposed to softer tyres.

Good point there Michael, I have ran the Gators at higher pressure and got the same results, personally I like my tyres to be a touch on the softer side for comfort but have found the contis always fail . The trouble is. They can blow out with ride ending catastrophic results so always clean the sidewalls regularly and inspect them for threads appearing . They are great for puncture free rides in general though.

@@michaelsingh843 I run 28mm gators in winter and don't mind Rubino pro 25mm in summer.. Tyre choice is all down to personal choice and ride style. I would rather have thicker inner tubes and durable tyres for the sake of a few hundred grams versus punctures.

I like Contis but they can fail in a non repairable way on a ride whereas Vittorias will just wear the tread down to the point where you know you need to change them. I am running some Vittoria enduro pro tyres at the mo and I love them, no punctures and very reliable , albeit a bit heavy .

Sorry guys but I'm looking for information about the Gatorskin 28c and I don't understand this issue of the sides of the tire exploding? Is it because of the tire's natural wear or because of running with less pressure than 25c? And these threads that come loose that speak in the comments, what are these threads? I have been riding with original tires that came on my bike which are Chaoyang Viper 28c, and they are currently 7000 km with only 02 flats, I want to find another tire that lasts as long as this one. :D Thanks for the answers.

I love Gatorskins, 25mm or 28mm but they seem to suffer from the sidewall wearing thin on the beed where you will notice the Kevlar fibre starting to fray . I don't think it's down to tyre pressure either whether it's too high or too low. I change them well before the actual tread goes and never chance them on rides once I see them showing threads or they will blow out.i like to run Rhubino pros too but the tread will always wear out before the sidewalls ever go and they offer good puncture protection.

I've had it with all continental tires. They're the tires I love and hate. I was a GP4000 and then GP5000 devotee for years. The probem is that on some wheels they are a bear to get off. When they're on the rim so tightly that you can't get a lever under the tire bead, you'll end up cutting them off. That's unacceptable on the road. My LBS recommended the Vittoria Rubino Pros which I just brought home. Once my pretty new GP5000's wear out, I'm done with them.

Yer, the contis can be ridiculously tight on the rim and with cold fingers on a winter's ride, that's not good. I do like the Rubino Pro but the middle of the tread can wear out quickly however they are pretty good for puncture protection .

Have you used tubeless tyres yet?
@MrDazP1adv3ntures
5 жыл бұрын
No not yet. Tyre pressures to me are the key for comfort and speed. I don't like to ride any of my bikes with high pressures -on road or off road. I use good quality and affordable clincher tyres with plenty of barrier protection on the tread and side walls. On the mountain bike I will change to mud tyres in winter in general and x cross country type tyres through out the year. Normally 2.2 -2.4 wide. As for the road bike I love the 28mm tyres running at lower pressures but will run 25 mm tyres on a drop handlebar bike. It can become a mind field. It's the same with inner tubes. I would rather have a heavier inner tube for the protection they offer rather than save 30g of weight. Having said that Tubeless are great for low pressures and avoiding pinch flats.

I converted mountain bike to tubeless during the summer and can highly recommend going tubeless, And I just converted road bike to tubeless with Schwalbe Pro One. Inner tube weight was 90gm but I had to add 30g of sealant saving 6ogm per wheel. I’ll see how they fare. I am only running 95psi in road tyres and only ridden once since.
