Amazing tutorial! I would love to see a follow up episode about moving objects in and out or spawning into the frame like they do it in TV production where the anchor talks about something and then a video or image of that thing spawns in for the viewers. That would be awesome! I'm a complete beginner but i would like to do some indie live compositing.

OSC would just be triggering those things to happen and no different than a keyboard press. If you want to learn what comes after that to make news style motion graphics happen, I'd start with searching tutorials for widget blueprints and media player components, which are the things that could be triggered by any input event. There's even more to learn with UE's Composure system but I haven't even got into that yet. So many areas of this awesome engine to learn!

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I did follow both of the zoom tutorials. I added the cine camera in OSC blueprint as a component. Value is changing only in the OSB blueprint camera and my OSC slider is only adding the value not decreasing. I got stuck there. I would highly appreciate if you can make follow up tutorial on OSC controller. It’s very useful there aren’t many things available for it.

Hey Aiden, love the tutorial - super useful and great delivery. I've run into a weird issue where the scale of my "Moveable Object" resets to 1, 1, 1 every time I initially move it, it then stays at that scale and moves as normal. Even if I state otherwise in the World Transform node. And lastly, your object was moving weird at the end. I think because when you reduced your deadzone, you put -0.05 in both < and > for your X value. Thanks again!

Great tutorial, so easy to follow. I got a question though, i'm using 3 faders in osc to dynamically change an hdri tint rgb. All the values got through, just the hdri is not updating with the changed value. If i manually change the value in details panel, the hdri does change based on different value. So anything i'm missing here? For example, is there a refreshing node or update node needed after setting the hdri tint?

Great tutorial! I would like to ask: wouldyou happen to have a written version of this so I can refer to this for my notes? I'm working on an adaptation of this: going from VCV Rack into the Unreal Engine. I just use VCV in place of the TouchOSC and run everything localhost for testing purposes; my aim is to deploy it to my wife's computer and add control variables within that she could use ie, a gamepad controller to change stuff within the scene as a form of visual music for the deaf.

Hi, Thank you for this tutorial! I'am trying to control (with touchdesigner) the rotation of a camera (in UE4) but in the editor mode. The blue print only work in "play mode". I tried to overpass it but without success. I guess it's possible to send "live" data in the editor mode because the Vcam (Virtualcamera) plugin works over the network that way... (I don't use Vcam because it's not precise). Do you have any idea? Thank you very much, Nelson

thanks so much for this. it's the one that set me free from the 3rd party (Gustav) one and got me going using the Epic one. I have a question, is there something special I have to do to get it to work when it's in a streamed level? It works when I run the level I want to stream but when I run the persistent level and stream that in- I get nothing.
@carsoncarr-busyframes619

I figured it out. 2 actors with the OSC listener are able to exist in a persistent level but if there's 1 in the persistent level AND one in a streaming level, the streaming level listener gets ignored (in my use case). I know I should ultimately only have one but working quick and dirty until it's time to refine. Feels nice to zap another "gotcha". Maybe this will help someone.

Hello Aiden, Super helpful tutorial. Everything works great on UE4.27 however I'm trying to load the app onto an Oculus Quest 2 and it crashes the app as soon as it receives the OSC message /button1. Tried /1 or /1/button1 and different format but it crashes. Either the format sent is wrong and crashes the app or the Quest 2 doesn't accept incoming data (which I hope not). Any idea what could cause this? Thanks

@@3d_Something thanks for your response (which I feared) then what I can try perhaps is to have some kind of a proxy in between. A BLE/WIFI board. That board would connect to the Quest 2 in Bluetooth (I believe this is authorised) and that same board would then receive the different OSC messages over Wifi from different remote locations. It would act as a go between. A bit heavy but that’s my only workaround I presume

@@barrylachapelle I posted a reply a few days ago but seems it got blocked, likely because of URL linking. I've been using TouchDesigner as middleware to translate OSC messages into something 4.26 responds to. (TD is free for non-commercial use). Search VJ School's tutorial on OSC for 4.26 - only the TD part applies, 4.25 blueprints work in 4.26 using this TD technique.
