The younger ones have more time to change, they're in a phase of learning a lot about being an adult. They tend to be funnier because they tend to be more clueless in a funny way. I'm sure that's how she qualified for that medical program in Texas she spoke of in the first 10 minutes. She applies for low income/lower middle class income help and gets it because she only uses her income. She slips up and alludes to it a few times. That's also why her income driven student loan repayment plan is so low. They don't know his income. Also, the fact they use the business CC for personal expenses is also shady. She considers herself low income and in need of lower income help because she applies for programs and gets it. She isn't though, and she's making it so someone actually in need can't access that help.

Caleb asked her, and she flat out said she plans on SS to pay for their life there and to maybe get a job. Several people from Chile have chimed in in the comments and said she'll need a few thousand a month to afford a decent property and all their monthly expenses. Sure $3,000 is less than the $9,000+ now, but how will she make that without loads of cash? Apparently the $1500 he quotes is no longer viable because the COL is increasing while the job sotiation is stagnant. @@user-ey4ut9uc8w

One time, wifey and I honeymooned in Vegas when we were suddenly approached by a lady basically trying to offer us "free lunch" in exchange for attending a seminar. Didn't take long to figure out they were selling something, but we were young at the time and almost considered going. Even went and paid the $50 admission fee (so much for "free" lunch, eh?); which....also had to be paid in cash; which meant taking money out from an ATM; which had a 10 dollar withdrawal fee. Long story short, we ended up not even going because honestly...we just wanted to vacation and do our own thing. So, thanks to being too lazy/tired to bother going to a seminar that probably would have lasted hours, we narrowly escaped getting scammed into a timeshare. For Valerie, I’m a bit younger (mid 30’s) and made the move to a developing Latin American country (my husband is from Latin America) to save money. Let me tell you, the price of properties, electricity and food ate our monthly income so quickly. Not saying this is the case for Chile but coming as a comfortable living person in the USA do not expect to live like King and Queens in a developing country. So many retirees and working remotely employees have jacked up the prices of these once affordable options. I really feel sorry for the true locals of these countries. They aren’t bringing “big” money. Many are surviving on $600 or less a month. I’m not totally 💩on your plans. Just from someone that’s done it and now back in the States (we lived there for 7 months) it is not as easy as it may appear. Blessings to you and your husband ❤

Also if you lived in the states the majority of your life be prepared for absolute culture shock. My husband has lived half his life in his home country and half here in the USA and he was absolutely shocked by how his country does things (from an adult perspective). Simple things like people not having car insurance/brake lights, large fees for all things legally (notaries, titles, insurance, etc.) Regular rolling blackouts, trash thrown everywhere, no sanitation system in place (at least not like it’s in the States), corrupt police (many bribes were paid- $300 for one with the threat of impounding our car based on the officers word vs ours). Many places not having running water and/or indoor plumbing. This is truly very important to avoid disease. And now it seems like I’m just picking on LAM. I’m not. I’m simply sharing the lack of “luxuries” in these countries. Total culture shock to me and absolute frustration for my husband having been in the States for so long. For us it will be a place we visit but not live.😕

It's crazy. I have 2 roommates and the most we CAN spend on groceries in this economy all combined is less than $400. Not even $400 for 3 adults and that's pushing it, but these people have almost 3 times that. No one needs to spend that much on groceries for 3 people. That's ridiculous.

Cliffnotes version: Wife: He got a car and I didn't know anything about it. Husband: I called you. Wife: Yea, but I wasn't there. Jesus christ with trying to shove the blame to the husband. Bet she told him to go get the car in the first place. She lies so much I can't believe anything she says.

Honestly, watching this show motivated me to get on top of my debt. I have always made money, but I went through a dark period where my mental health was poor, and I accrued a lot of debt. I thought I was going to die from it. At the beginning of this year, I decided enough was enough. I started budgeting, meal prepping, and working extra hours. By October, all my debt will be paid off. I had $37,000 in debt; now I have $17,000 left. My credit score is almost back to 700, and I’ve been saving between $1,000 and $2,000 each month while paying around $4,000 towards debt. This show has been incredibly helpful by holding me accountable and motivating me to improve. I have sacrificed a lot, and it hasn’t been easy, but it can be done. I’m 29, and by 30, I will be debt-free and able to save around $4,000 a month to catch up on retirement.😊

people in relationships NEED to communicate and be more transparent about finances before getting married. i think a lot of people forget that marriage is a financial commitment on top of an emotional commitment

This situation is so similar but in reverse. My wife refuses to fully combine finances which is probably for the best because she also refuses to ever look at a budget before spending. If I don't remove the bulk of her paycheck from her account to the main house account where I pay the bills from right away, we don't have money for the bills. It's mentally exhausting and makes me feel like a control freak but if I don't do it, we don't have money for bills. Cautionary tale for those before they get married -- make sure you are both on the same page financially otherwise it will feel like a prison sentence.

@MissMosierable we've tried therapy. And this very topic has come up that when it comes to household finances, I don't feel like we're a team. It doesn't help that about 5 years ago she was hiding over $20k in credit cards I didn't know about. I had to put our finances into DefCon1 and take care of that. I've tried every possible scenario I can think of to get her more involved. - Do the budget with me. - I do the budget and she reviews it with me and gives her input. - I just do everything and let her know if we or cannot do something when it's a larger purchase. We've settled on this quasi routine where we agree on a set amount I transfer from her account each pay and whatever money left is hers to do with as she wishes. But when it comes to managing the household money, it's all on me.

My fiancé and I came up with a plan, he said he doesn’t want to feel like he can’t go out and buy something he wants, which is fair he makes a decent amount. He gets paid weekly and he keeps $200 from each paycheck. The rest is sent to our joint account that is budgeted to cover house expenses, vehicle expenses, credit card payments, groceries. After the first month of doing this he said to me this was the first time he didn’t get an alert from his bank that his account was under $100. We will have everything paid off by the end of the year except the mortgage and his truck, 4.5% interest rate. And by May of next year we’ll have $20,000 in savings!

This is why people don't support Student Loan Forgiveness. You have people loke her who make a pretty solid income but control their spending. Why would people want to bail them put when they will just spend themselves back in debt.

The two people I knew who were most amped up for student loan forgiveness were a couple of doctors who combined make close to 1/2 million per year. They were literally jumping up and down over 20k in total forgiveness. Absolutely wild.

I auditioned for the show in February or March, but didn't make the cut. Since then, I have paid off multiple debts, have created a budget, raised my credit score around 75 points, and just got approved for a credit card with a $12,000 credit limit. 😂 I haven't used a credit card this year--I just wanted to see what kind of offer I now qualified for. Now I know. 😁 Many thanks to the guests on this show and to Caleb and his team. You have kept me on track quite easily. (Oh, I opened a Roth IRA and have a small emergency fund. Need to keep building it.)

That Home Depot charge will have deferred interest accruing as well. I just made the final payment on a water heater we had installed two years ago. The charge was $2485.15, and the deferred interest had accumulated to $1522.42. I paid it off three weeks early just to be sure it goes to zero before the actual due date. Literally if you miss paying $10.00 they will back charge ALL of the deferred interest.

$170k+ in debt with nothing in savings and you're thinking you're going to retire? Yeah, good luck with that. Like Caleb said even if they save up $20-30k and move to Chile that's still not going to be anywhere near enough to live on.
