README: A few comment summaries from the last few days: 1) Dan from Tall Dog says this about upgrading the Raspberry PI... ( @chokocat9064 ) "So, the Compute Module 3+ used in the older versions is a completely different form-factor from the Compute Module 4 used in the mkII versions. However, Raspberry Pi does make a Compute Module 4S which appears to uses the same SODIMM connector as the 3+ so this seems somewhat promising. Unfortunately the 4S is only "for specific industrial customers" and "is not for general sale" so it might be hard to find one." 2) Several EE-type people have shrieked in fear that I placed the board on a folded wool blanket - "static death imminent!" And they suggest using an anti-static mat or simply be very careful and placing the board out of the way on the wooden table-top. Maybe I just got lucky, maybe touching my laptop every step helped? In the future I may use a folded cotton pad instead. 3) For the people who thought my modwave booted way faster than it should, there is a an edit that removed 12 seconds of startup time. I was't trying to hide anything...I was just removing dead time. :) 4) Regarding step #35 ("tight lower faceplate screws") - contacting support (at) tall-dog.com got me several options for fixing the tightly threaded holes! Their response was timely and very polite/helpful. If you run into that problem, just contact them. Dan is awesome. I'll be making a Wavestate conversion video in a week or two and address the tightness in step #35 in that video.

Hey Luke... simple advice: Never use cloth, fabrics or wool blankets to handle electronics. Putting that circuit board over your dog's wool blanket, it was a risky idea. Such elements tend to build electrostatic charges. Always use rubber pads or wood tables (if you don't have rubber pads). Anyways, the chance of destroying electronic components this ways is very low, but it sure exists. Stay safe.

Great video. I noticed when you powered back up at the end it took only 12 seconds. My Modwave mk 1 still takes about 24 seconds, even with the newest OS2.15. My Mkii loads up in about 12.

Does anyone know if tall dog is still doing this? There is an option to preorder on the site for January 2024 but its just about march. I'm scared to buy it if its just not a thing anymore

As far as I know, if the site is offering kits then they are available, but I shot a note to Dan @ tall-dog and with luck he will respond here directly. :)

Presumably this is a reference to Korg now selling desktop/19inch rack units of Modwave, Wavestate and Opsix. They are quite nice actually. All metal, higher voice counts, angled desk mounting, and can integrate with other 19inch gear in racks. Nice recessed connections and power button on the front panel. Sweetwater are not making/selling any kits as far as I know.
@synthseeker

Yeah I talk about the new mk2 19” rack units in the video. However for the existing 22” key versions these are great! :) However I’m not sure if that was what OP meant, which is why I asked. You may be right though.
@wavesequencer

Sorry - missed that bit about you mentioning the new rack units.. did a bit of fast forwarding to see the end results :) I will probably get the rack Wavestate. Was hoping the SE keyboard version might have a nicer layout, but it's not improved so I skipped it, and the new rack Wavestate has the same number of voices as the SE version. Difficult to find time to play with synths with all my plugin development though.
