Good video but I don't understand why your having to do some wiring work! I bought an adapter for my dyson v8 to work with makita batteries and all I had to do was put the adapter in the hoover then put the makita battery in , and then it works, absolutely no wiring work required at all !

just did this and it works great, your method is the best as it keeps the chance to add a battery in future. the relay in your link doesn't fit inside battery so i ordered a 24v micro relay 35A from same supplier with harness and just cut out 87A wire. it fits perfectly inside under the little board without the need of the wood piece. i can not get max mode to work for now but thats because my battery max amp is 12A and this hoover draws 18A but im happy with normal mode . really appreciate this video 🙏👏

This instruction video might work for Dyson series V6/V7/V8 vacuums but it certainly DOES NOT work for Series V10 (or bigger like V11/V12). Reason for that is battery voltage in the higher/newer Dyson systems. I own a V10 and it runs on 25.2 Volts battery, so 18 V tool battery definately does not make it work straight connected. (thumb-up this if you found this comment helpful because there is misleading info in the video description)

What about the third terminal on the battery and tool to protect against overloading, overdischarging and overheating. My Makita drill uses the third terminal on the battery and can't use older Makita batteries which don't have three terminals.

As this device is for use by a non technical person...🙄 I would just replace the original cells in the Dyson battery pack... the extra voltage, 6 cells versus 5 cells on the tool batteries makes a big difference to how well it works...

Very informative video for a V6 ,I tried this and tested this on a test light , all worked OK on the light ,however I've got a Dyson V10 the system won't operate the motor , inside the stalk housing there are 2 wires that are no longer connected to the original controlboard (which is now scrap ), do those 2 wires ,one black & one red need to be connected somewhere in the powerhead to complete a circuit ? The unit will not operate with 24v attached to the clip terminals in the shaft of the motor end. Have you got any ideas?

Dyson V10 (I have one) needs a battery with 7 cells in series (29,5V). So if you connect your drill battery (21,2V) without converter (21 to 30V) , possible that voltage is too low and the motor board stays locked. For a V6 the voltage difference (21,2V to 25,2V) is accepted by the board. If you add the converter, please use only a 4 or 5Ah battery! For the 2 little wires I don't know. It's possible to connect them direct on the drill battery, but normally they are controlled by the Dyson's battery BMS ; here they would receive current permanently. The best solution I found was to build my own pack (7 high discharge cells) with a chinese BMS for V10 (Ali), put it in an old V10 box and it runs. And the Ali BMS does not lock down definitively. It can be re-used. So I only need to change the cells if necessary. I cut all male tabs on the box (only closed with the screws, no problem) , so I can re-open it very easely.

I ended up making this today with the 5 pin relay and cut the middle pin. Only issue I had with the 5 pin is that it’s larger and I had to mount it on the outside as it would not fit inside the battery shell. Not as tidy of a final product but works a treat, would recommend 😊

OK, but use only batteries with 2 cells rows in // (4Ah or more) and not 2 or2,5Ah with simple cells row, because here the voltage is lower and the motor power will kill the battery very quickly. Even a good lithium cell (30A discharge) cannot support a long time discharges in a few mns . It's by the way THE first issue with all Dyson's batteries, although with effective 24V.. ...and I could tell the same about their "particular" BMS which locks down, normal, ...but definitively, not normal, after the first batterie issue.
@Michel-Artois
2 жыл бұрын
I add : - Do this with only good 4Ah drill batterie and fully charged : you convert 21,2V to 25,2V and you need a lot of amps. Don't use the Max power, although it's possible. Be careful with chinese replacement batteries , oftens discharge amps are lower. -Control if you have a BMS in your drill batterie , some Bosch packs for instance have a BMS placed in the device and charger and not in the battery...and in this case you have no more discharge control (big danger for the pack and perhaps for yourself)

🤣 the wiring is different to how I did mine, mines use the oem board, use mutlimeter to find the positive and negative where battery pack meets board and directly connect into that with tool battery. 18 volts would be considered flat on a 21.6 volt lithium pack. The dyson has 6 cells at 3.6 volts each and an 18 volt Makita has 5 cells at 3.6 volts each. 3 volts is considered flat on a 3.6 volt lithium cell and 3 times 6 is 18.
