Up to this point my wife and I have been using our trailer nearly exclusively at improved campgrounds with water, sewer, and electric hookups. Up until now the dinky Lead Acid battery that is typical of these trailers was plenty for us. This summer however, we are going to make a trip up into the Cascade Mountains boondock style.
To that end I am planning an installation of a much larger capacity Lithium battery. I am aware that many people will just drop in a lithium battery and call it good. that works, but that necessitates compromises in capacity and performance.
In order that I not have to make those compromises, I have decided to go down a different path. The path recommended by the manufacturers, which includes a new style converter, which has the correct "charge profiles" for a lithium battery.
In this video series I demonstrate the first step in that process, where I replace the WFCO WF-8735-P converter with a WFCO WF-8740-AD converter.
The new converter upgrades my available 12volt current from 35 amps to 40 amps.
It also has the intelligence to "Auto-Detect" whatever type of battery it is connected to, and apply the correct charging profile to whatever type of battery is installed in your trailer at any time.
join me as I demonstrate this simple replacement.
Stay tuned for the upcoming video series, of installing the Lithium battery, and finally the DC to DC charger, which will make my truck alternator much more efficient at charging my new lithium battery while on the road.
Enjoy.
