Interesting video, i see at the start the engine has a single glow carburettor, i have good success with the saito glow carburettor with gas conversion, i know the walbro style are very problematic to get running right across the rev range

You are correct. Saito make different carbs and you need the type that you can adjust how much the main needle is moving when the throttle is moved. I have tried gas on a carb that this is not adjustable and the trouble is that it will be very rich in the mid range. It can be a solution to grind a new needle with a less steep taper. The Kavan engine that I`m doing now have this adjustment so it will be interesting to see if we get this to work.

Hi Chris, thanks for sharing! Still looking at my 200TI, wanted to convert it to gas for a long time but was always doubtful about a good outcome. Maybe I should reconsider 🧐

I was told that glowfuel engines are not good to convert to gas, because of the increased heat. I think that is because of bad baffling and maybe bad oil. I will cover this in detail in the next video.

@@chrisdoingrc glow engines have smaller cooling surface and tend to run hot when running on gas, at ABC engines will this will result in an increased piston/liner clearance which is not such a big deal on ringed engines, and that's why a ringed engine (like 4 strokes) run pretty good on gasoline when running a lot full power than bafling becomes very important. you mentioned glow fuel ignites faster than gasoline but that's not true.... propper setting for glow fuel with ignition is 34 degree btc and gas at28 degree btc

@@Modelpilot I wonder… have you actually tryed this? And yes ethanol and methanol ignites faster than gas. If I set the ignition as you say, the engine rund wery hard an gives a lot of vibration. About heat you are correct👍

@@chrisdoingrc Yes i tried and glowfuel ignites a bit slower than gasoline is my experience ignition at 32-34 degree works for me perfect (28-30 for gasoline), handstart is no problem with 20cc 4 stroke's, if i set the ignition timing later i see the temp increasing a lot.. at the moment i am working on my ASP 400 (gasoline CDI), Saito 300T (glow CDI) and radial and FA 200Ti (glow CDI), for Gasoline modification i do not use walbro carb but stock carb combined with electronic fuel regulation with air pressure and temperature compensation.... works like a dream with big thanks to Brutus and Hans who developed this system it is fun to start a 4 stroke glow engine by hand and running super smooth at first flip :D

Great video! What gas oil ratio are you using? 30:1? Glow fuel here in Canada is $45 CAD a gallon (3.78L).... So any conversion to gas is well worth the effort! I burned almost 40L last summer. That works out to $60 with oil.

Thank you Scott! Oil ratio I use is 20:1 with a good fully syntetic racing oil. Glowfuel has the same price here, it works in a way on smaller engines. I will cover more about this in my next video, what is left to do now is to get full control on the Hi needle so we know that the engine get what he want.

Fantastic work Chris, just a stupid question, how about buying a Saito fg57/61 carb?
