Try a hammock All you have to do is knot the ends and put knot outside of top of front passenger door close door, then at back same on top of back door close door. During day just open front door and throw it to the back. The space you gain is unbelievable. Enjoy your channel.

Can’t wait! I struggle with my 2004 Buick Rendevous, my camper (ha), as it’s not as wide nor as long as a minivan. Of course it’s not as big as a transit or van. I have about six x 4 feet to work with if back seats are out- no space below anywhere and no roof rack. I need some help!
@IanODonnell

It can be tricky in a small car. But it's doable for sure!! At least you can lay out with the 6ft of room.
@seattlebeard

I took my back seat out altogether. When I encountered the uneven floor underneath, I created a vinyl beanbag to lay over the floor and filled it with wood pellets. I then cut two 3/4 inch form-fitting plywood pieces covered with trunk liner fabric and joined with a piano hinge so it could be removed easily. On top of that I placed a custom-cut one piece heavy outdoor mat with rubber on the bottom and a very durable synthetic fabric texturized top. (They are used as doormats in smaller sizes.) The result is very stable and turns my Cube into a mini van suitable for transporting anything. I don't miss the back seat at all.

I've seen plenty in small hatchback cars. So I'm sure it's doable. It's basically just going to be a place to sleep and then store stuff though , Hahaha. Hopefully Jakery will be interested in doing a partnership, it would save a little and be a cool thing to do in general!

Thanks for documenting this Ian. Us Cubist campers are a rare breed. I'm converting mine now and I was wondering what exact model of window covers you used here. I'm having trouble find the correct ones. I'm also curious if they held up well. The whole stick on thing seems flimsy. Thank you!

Thanks for checking it out. I feel like just owning a cube puts you in an exclusive club hahaha. Good job Ian, looking forward to this one. Not sure about a downgrade, it’s a different beast. It’ll be interesting to see what you feel you need, and to read the comments, always a laugh. Funny you’ve decided you want smaller and I just camped out in my hot tent which happens to be the biggest tent I’ve ever owned, a nice change from my bike packing tent for real, warmer too! Cheers from Canada

Hahaha, thanks for watching. I didn't really choose to go smaller, it's just a vehicle I already had. 🤣 I'd love to build out a bigger camper one day, but I also think it's kind of cool to work with what you have! I bet your new tent feels like a mansion compared to a tent pack on a bike. Haha. Speaking of which, I plan to strap a bike and kayak to this cube and take it into the mountains with me. You might have to give me some biking tips, hahaha.

Hey Ian - I look forward to your new build and adventures! If I might offer a suggestion, if you're gonna go with a power station setup you might want to check out Bluetti. It's higher quality than Jackery, has about 7 times more life cycles and generally is less expensive per watt than Jackery. 😎

@@IanODonnell I will. Leaning “feet between seats” option. I don’t want to remove anything. Looking at window/car hop trays and holders to use small stove on. Lots of interesting car organizers on WM. Also going with curtains instead of covers. Considering sticking curtains to strips of strong Velcro above Windows. Or Maybe running some cord around the upper perimeter for curtains or hanging things. Been enjoying your adventures!
@IanODonnell
2 жыл бұрын
@@nboothful one thing about velcro, if you stick it directly on the window sometimes the heat will melt it and eventually it will fall off. So if you go with the velcro route just a heads up. (I learned that the hard way hahaha) And I think feet between the front seats is probably a good way to go. Might be difficult to build storage around if you go for the diagonal approach. But who knows!!

I'll have to measure once I get the backseat out and have a better idea of the floor space, but there's a lot of headroom in the cube. Probably a little bit more then I had in the van.
