If you notice the bass player here is Robert Truillo who joined Metallica in 2003 after Jason Newstead left the band. Robert also was a huge part of ST's side project called "Infectious Grooves" in the 90s. That project was more of a "funk" feel. I saw ST in 1989 in a small club in Syracuse, NY. Still one of my top 2 shows of all time.

Suicidal Tendencies started as a punk rock band, especially their debut album (Songs like 'Institutionalized' ... 'I saw your mommy' ... 'I shot the devil'... 💀) ... Mike Muir (vocals) reformed Suicidal Tendencies and incorporated thrash metal into a subgenre called "crossover" - speed metal fused w/ punk rock... on ST's 2nd album 'Join the army' (1987) when Rocky George (lead guitar) joined the band... "How will I laugh tomorrow" (1988) was a more diverse effort and the 1989 EP 'Controlled by hatred' was another standout record. ST's next album "Lights camera revolution" in 1990 included Robert Trujillo (bass) and Mike Clark (rhythm guitar) and followed it up w/ 'The art of rebellion' in 1992... This line-up re-recorded their debut album in 1993 as "Still cyco after all these years" ... and their last album was 'Suicidal for life' in 1994 before the band broke up in 1995. 'Cyco Miko' Muir released a solo album "Lost my brain (Once again)" in 1996 - it was re-recorded as a Suicidal Tendencies album in 2018 as "Still cyco punk after all these years"... Mike Muir reformed Suicidal Tendencies in 1997 to tour again after their former label released a compilation album 'Prime cuts'... but only Mike Clark (rhythm guitar) returned from the last line-up.... Dean Pleasants (lead guitar) joined the band from Muir's other band Infectious Grooves... The band returned to their punk rock roots w/ the albums 'Freedumb' (1999) and 'Free your soul and save my mind' (2000)... but fans were not happy w/ those records.... ST toured often but did not release any new music before Mike Clark left the band. Suicidal Tendencies finally released the album '13' in 2013 and was a return to their 'crossover' sound... Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo joined for a while and recorded the album 'World gone mad' in 2016... They also released another EP in 2018 - 'Get your fight on!' Currently, Suicidal Tendencies is touring w/ Mike Muir (vocals) & Dean Pleasants (lead guitar)... and former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg... former Dillinger Escape Plan rhythm guitarist Ben Weinman... and Tye Trujillo (bass), the son of former ST bassist Robert Trujillo (who is currently in Metallica)

This whole album is/was a game changer and is very good from beginning to end. Rocky George MIGHT BE the most underrated guitar player I can think of in the history of music. Henry Rollins played a lot of scary gigs during his time in Black Flag, but the most scared he ever said he was at a gig was at a Suicidal Tendencies show he played as a young guy. Suicidal was not only more established than Black Flag in LA at the time, but they had won over local street gangs so the whole backyard show was filled with gun-toting 80s gangsters and fights. More established in LA than Black Flag and playing shows that scared Henry Rollins. People dont know what Suicidal Tendencies brought to the table decade after decade.

i used to think that was the case, that rocky was underrated but it seems all these years later that i'm finding so much praise directed towards him. if anything, i think he was overlooked mostly as the whole band was that was likely due to their controversial ties. whatever the case, it's so great to see all the love he and st are getting now vs when this was all new.

To call yourself a punk fan and NOT know who Suicidal Tendencies are is ridiculous. One of the most influential bands of the genre, they are the bridge that led from Bay Area skate punk into Hardcore, they are the ones who upped the ante and as is the punk way, took things too far, for those times at least. I have been a fan of punk since Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood created it in 75/6 and launched the inimitable Sex Pistols into the world. THEY were the first band to ever be labelled as "Punk" by a Daily Mirror front page headline in 76. Also The Ramones are NOT A PUNK BAND, NEVER WERE!!!! Joey Ramone ALWAYS said they were a Rock n Roll band who played fast. Also, they formed way before 76, BEFORE THE TERM PUNK EVER EXISTED. Here endeth the lesson from an old punk ORIGINAL.
