Great video. I was planning to upgrade mine. I’m not sure if your tundra comes with it, but you didn’t mention the bulb that lights up the driver’s floor. It’s located about 4 inches southeast of the fuse box. It’s attached to a silver bracket with the bulb pointed to the front of the car. Mine is a 04 crew cab SR5

Is it possible to swap out the 05-06 cluster for an older one to do the LED swap? Or are the clusters ‘tied’ to the vehicle?

Hmm, I doubt that it would be a simple swap with all the connectors lining up and stuff. Plus it may introduce some sketchy stuff with the odometer not accurately matching the truck. Not saying its out of the picture, but it probably isn't plug and play. Thanks for watching!

Pro tip-No one should mess with changing the lower light bulbs-like the check engine lights, or the gas light etc. if you put LED’s in those slots, they will always stay on, whether you’re low on gas or not. So just stick with the OEM bulbs for that bottom row of the gauge cluster.

Guys, if you have an 05 sequoia, do not attempt to change the gage lights. The man is right, I took mine apart to see if I can even replace 4 or 5 lights, but found no lights period, they are soldered in. If you decide to remove it, it’s a lot of pain to put it back, but you can change the climate AC lights, there are about 11 of them including the rear air.

sal great video. i have learned a lot from you. thank you!!! i swapped my bulbs to green first on the dash but too green. i ended up going back to white. I think I lowered the lower kick panel more than I really had to and I ended up breaking the mounting brackets on the small dash piece that holds the cluster brightness knob and my heated mirror button (which I didn't know I really had lol) I ended up having to take the cluster out again because I didn't realize that I didn't have one of the bulbs seated correctly, and i wanted to switch them from green to white. the second time around I now have a gap where the kick panel meets the dash. do you happen to have any idea why I have a gap; do I not have something seated properly? if you are in the drivers seat are there tabs on the lower left edge kick panel or plastic "colums" just there as a guide when you slide the lower kick panel in? If there are tabs with lips on the edge then I am pretty sure the lip edge broke when dropping the panel. any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry for the super delayed response!Hmm, I haven't had that panel off in a while so I forget what exactly it looks like and what could be jammed up or preventing it from sitting flush. I got the led's today and I just wanted to test them before actually doing the entire cabin of my 2000 Tundra. I tested the map lights above my head and it worked. i put back the original map light afterwards. I then moved onto the dome light and this is where everything started to go wrong. I took out the old dome light an put the new led in and it worked but wanted to make sure the other ones in the same size worked as well and they did. Then when I went to put the dome cover back on I checked the map lights with the original lights to make sure they work and then boom, I got nothing. I went to check the dome light with the good bulbs and nothing worked. I then started the car up to make sure it would run and it did. Then I went to turn on my radio and I got nothing. Now I checked the fuse where the hood and driver side and I'm still trying to figure out what is going on. Yup I have the same thing happen, when I got my truck I thought the gauge was broken but I've found that's just pretty normal. At least I hope 😂 thanks for watching!

If the dome light is too bright, or any of the other LED replacement bulbs are just too bright, I wonder if there's some kind of adhesive neutral tint that you could cut and stick around the bulb itself to reduce the brightness?
@JDMDriveway

That's a good idea and I haven't really looked into it, but I've gotta assume that people have tried it before. I'd be interested in it myself because I do think the dome light is a bit bright. Thanks for watching!

I swapped my dash console with LED. I didn't have any problems with the drive indicator bulbs fortunately, so it may come down to what brand you got? The only one I left as a stock incandescent is the low fuel indicator because that one dims based on the voltage from the sending unit. The LEDs I got don't dim at all so you'd have a situation where you have no low fuel indication until all of a sudden you do and it's too late. :) Maybe if you found a decent LED that can handle lower voltage, you might have luck but now that I had a supply of incandescents from the others I replaced, I decided to leave it as is. Overall, my only issues with LED is that they're so bright compared to the ones on my stock head unit, I ended up trying to find a balance of having those dimmed down enough but still bright enough for the stereo, but it's possible. And I think I read about some folks who replaced the bulbs in the stock stereo itself (JBL) with LEDs but I haven't worked up the courage to attempt that.

Thanks for all the good info. I've considered trying out other bulbs for the drive indicators, but it honestly doesn't bother me enough to take it all apart again. I've found that my LEDs were brighter than stock as well, but mine are dimmable so I can turn them down at night to a reasonable brightness. Thanks for watching!

just realized, in your tundra on your clock you have a 2WD/4HI button next to a 4LO. My tundra doesn't have that. What exactly is that?? Also! I'm so excited about this video! I've been wanting to do the same with my truck! I might experiment with blue lighting other then green I think it would look nicer! Your videos are always extremely helpful! I can't wait to start putting my plans into motion! Additionally, I don't know about you, but my Cargo Lamp light turns itself on and off? I don't know if it's actually turning on or not but the light on the button will suddenly be on even after I obviously turned it off. Any ideas?
@JDMDriveway

I've got a 4wd truck and the truck defaults to 2wd, and 2/4HI button switches it to 4wd. 4HI is separate from 4LO and would be used 9 times out of 10 for off-roading. 4LO is only used when you need the most traction and are going very slow. As far as the cargo lamp, mine always turns on when a door is open or for a short while after locking the truck. It turns off on its own when I shut the door. I haven't had any issues with it turning on and off sporadically though. May be some funky wiring issues or something, its hard to say. Thanks for watching - Sal

Problem: My map and dome light work fine with the doors closed while manually turning them on but they are dim when activated with open doors. Any thoughts?

Hmm, that sounds like some sort of grounding issue potentially. Honestly not sure where to start, does it do it with both the stock and LED bulbs? If it's only the LED ones, then maybe try a different brand? Thanks for watching

If it's 4WD, that sounds like a good deal in todays market. 2WD, I'd hope that the rest of the truck is in really good shape. Make sure to check over the frame and timing belt to see what you're getting yourself into. Best of luck!

I just last night replaced a few of my center dash lights. Tried using the green condoms on them but I tore one. So I just went white. It looks so much better and brighter! Going to pick up a bunch more bulbs today and do my instrument cluster next! As well as the last couple bulbs in the center dash as Walmart didn’t have all the bulbs I needed lol. Edit: I got my ordered bulbs in and finished replacing them. Replaced all lights aside from the gas and airbag lights. And the drive indicators. It looks amazing now! I love it!

there is a "footwell" bulb on the driver side below/behind the dash - seems to shine down on the gas/break when door is opened (I think this is what triggers it, but mine doesn't work apparently). did you notice this one? i can't seem to get mine out.
@JDMDriveway
Жыл бұрын
Yep, someone pointed that out to me and I replaced it. It definitely took some finagling to get the bulb out, but it was a size T-5 and definitely did a good job lighting up the footwell with the door open. Especially considering the old bulb was burned out 😂 thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video Sal it was very informative, although I’m wondering why the indicator/warning lights need 18x T5’s, isn’t it just 2x?
@JDMDriveway
Жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, you only need 1 T5 for the backlighting in the gauge cluster but you do need a bunch more to replace all of the other bulbs like the seatbelt light, check engine light, 4HI, 4LO, airbag, etc. sorry if that was a little unclear. Thanks for watching! - Sal

Thanks for the great video! The only snag I had was I used an OEM bulb for the drive light and it’s dim. I swapped it with the L light and it was still dim. I attempted to clean the inside with a q-tip and lens cleaner but still dim. But at least it works and the rest of the cluster is bright thanks to the LEDs. Thanks again for the video and product links.

My drive bulb is dim too, and I'm not sure why it would be like that. I thought maybe it was a poor connection with the contacts but it didn't look worn or corroded or anything. Thanks for watching!

I can't really tell from the video which color temperature you have, but I hope you went with the more yellow white for the dome and map lights. From what I understand the human eye can see better with the more incandescent color temp than the super white LEDs. I personally hate the glare of those white ones at night.
@JDMDriveway
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I definitely prefer a warmer color temp for the door and dome lights and these LEDs are a bit "cooler" than I would like. They aren't so cold that it's a blueish white, but definitely not 3000k like an incandescent bulb. I'd guess around 5000k or so. Thanks for watching! - Sal
