Hey Jason, Just started my youtube channel and found yours at the perfect time. I have 2 email lists (one for investing basics, and one for passive income ideas). The investing one has (~400 subscribers), and the passive income one has around (~200 subscribers). With that said, I'm hoping to try "GetResponse" .... have you used that before in the past (I tried Mailchimp, but they didn't support affiliate marketers). I think the things that are important for me are: - Decent looking templates (so convertKit won't cut it). - Good pricing, since my lists are small now - Something that I can easily import/ export my contacts from in case I decide to move to another platform. - If a user is signed up for multiple lists and unsubscribes ... I want to make sure that it's only to the one list and not for everything. Any tips in this area would be much appreciated as I begin reaching out to my users! :)

I'm so glad for this review. I have had issues with ConvertKit and couldn't tell if it was me or CK. Now I have the answer. The newsletter look sucks - heavy to read - and it became clear today that the dashboard shows people opening my email (day and time!) when later I talk to the same client and they tell me they never opened it until I mentioned it! This has happened more than once now, with different clients. I put in a ticket and they asked for my account info to look into it, but no response. I will be switching to something else asap!

I feel like if someone unsubscribes to one of your lists, 9/10 times they don't want to be receiving your emails. So I'm not sure how much I agree with that being a con as much as just a respectful practise. Good video tho!

Hi Jason, really like all your videos and how you breakdown the pros and cons.... considering the latest info regarding pricing and changes, e.g. CK offering 0-1000 in the free account, do you still think other solutions are better? if you were to suggest a one stop shop for beginners, which platform would that be, considering they have to create lead pages, manage subscribers and create and automate their email marketing funnels? or I shouldn't even consider going to a one stop place and should use separate solutions for each duty... Please do guide, I'm stuck, would appreciate the help.
@JasonAWhaling
4 жыл бұрын
I'm happy they have a free plan now, but that free plan doesn't allow for automated emails. I think in terms of a "one stop shop" Mailerlite and Get Response are the two winners right now. If it makes business sense, Get Response is the closest to one and done and has way more automation capabilities than Mailerlite... But if your just starting and your list is under 10k, Mailerlite is more than enough to grow your list and test your landing pages. You'll have to find your own cart/membership software... Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching! Mailerlite: jasonwhaling.com/MailerLite Shopping Cart: jasonwhaling.com/ThriveCart

This was very helpful Jason! I just have one question. One of the main reasons I was inclined towards ConvertKit was that people keep saying their open-rates doubled with CK. Meaning other services send the mails automatically Promotions inbox. Do you have any suggestions to tackle this issue?
@JasonAWhaling
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hear that too, but we still get subjected to the promotions tab with ConvertKit. For the most part your emails are going to automatically get placed there using just about any service out there. ISPs know the IP address of the services. The only way would be having your own IP address and warming it up; but that doesn't make sense for small lists.

Hi, I'm really torn between both. I have an e-commerce website. I like the segmentation and visualisation of funnels with Convertkit, but I like Mailchimp's drop and drag, ability to create templates for pictures and native integration with Shopify. What should I pick ?
@JasonAWhaling
5 жыл бұрын
It is a tough choice! 🤔.... but if your e-commerce then I think Mailchimp is going to be better for you because of the integration with Shopify. ConvertKit is really designed for content creators so you'll be stuck doing a lot of manual work that Mailchimp could do for your automatically. One vote for Mailchimp 👍

I think they have made a lot of changes that solve *some* of these problems if you were interested in doing an updated video. But this was great, gave me an opportunity to think of things I hadn't before so thank you. *A couple things would still be a problem because ConvertKit does seem to cater largely to the blogging community (perfect for me, not so much for others and a great point on your part).

The problem I'm finding is that while MailerLite would be my first choice (half the price and good features), it is not integrated with the three LMS platforms I'm evaluating (WP Courseware, Teachable, Thinkerific). It seems that either ConvertKit is very easy to integrate with OR that CK sent software engineers around to these companies and offered to create the integration for them for free (it happens). So I feel like I'm being held hostage to CK as otherwise I have to build webhooks to MailerLite and that is a whole new learning curve. Thanks for the heads up re Unsubscribe All in ConvertKit. For pricing: I found that if you price it out on a spreadsheet, by about 5000 - 10000 subscribers, and pay annually, CK competes favorably with MailChimp (notice that MC says "Starting at..." for pricing). However, starting out I agree that $29 a month for only 1K is ridiculous. MailerLite is half the price from 0 - 10,000 subs.
@JasonAWhaling
4 жыл бұрын
You are right! It's ridiculous that those LMS only work with Mailchimp and Convertkit. Your stuck paying another $25 a month for Zapier just to make everything work. 😣 We have actually recently started using MailerLite, BUT have not solved the LMS problem. It's so silly that this is the way things are. I will be sharing our solution when we finally figure it out.
@wellymulia

If Maileralite wants to integrate with the LMS platforms, they can do that. It's a matter of whether they're willing to do that or not. How do I know? Because we run an email marketing tool too and we proactively integrate with 2 of the 3 you mentioned. Have you tried requesting to Mailerlite to integrate?

Happy to hear it presented a new perspective, but I do want to clarify that I am not a Fan of Aweber. Their software needs a major update, and they will count subscribers on each one of your list towards your total. So if you have a subscriber on your main list and a segmented list of buyers, that would count as 2 🙄

Convertkit is not good at all you can only test the initial response once and that is it. If someone comes to your site and fills out a form they want a response, not ignorance that Convertkit gives you after the initial once off. What if they lost your email, unsubscribed or for the customer of Convertkit. You can test your form once and that's it! The initial response is hidden deep in their system and once made it difficult to find and adjust anyway. So it is a waste of time, money and effort! That it.

The filtering is based upon the email and server the mail is coming from.... I don't know what your reading but having a plan from any of those providers will give you the same problem of getting in the promotions tab unless you start paying a heck of a lot more for your own IP address which opens up a whole another set of problems.... Not trying to defend mailchimp here; just wanted you to know that switching for that reason alone isn't necessarily going to solve that problem.
