I immigrated to Toronto from Amman last year and I completely get what you're saying. I held good corporate jobs in both countries. If you are upper middle class in Jordan, you can enjoy a much more luxurious life compared to the west. Granted salaries are good here, but with taxes, crazy expensive rents and home prices, food and even basic necessities are through the roof! Jordan comes out on top, it has better services, better food and friendlier people and most importantly...it feels more homey!

As usual, simple, genuin, video. People realy do not appreciate what they have until they loose it. It is true that most people in Jordan are struggling in their lives mostly because of financial reason. However, there are plenty of good things that equalize the hardship and in many cases win over it. You mentioned the family unit and family values... This is realy a great thing to live for in Jordan

Health insurance is the biggest scam, it s only used as a purpose to apply tax on incomes. I have gall bladder stones, and I had to wait 6 months to see a doctor. Health insurance in canada doesn't cover everything. I have to pay when I go to the dentist, eye exams are not covered, ears cleaning also not covered.

Sorry if i 'm bothering you with my replies. But please watch on youtube "inez rudderham", she is now cancer free, but her story is one of the stories of thousands of canadians. I don't have a family doctor. And in canada people are getting cancer at young age. At work two colleagues had cancer, one died at age 40, and the other one got cancer at age 20, but he is still alive. The bad food in Canada, and the lack of sun is destroying people health.

Sometimes the KZitemr does not know what to present to his followers of new topics and the truth is that the matter is simple, so open the camera and you do your daily routine, whether it is in the kitchen or the supermarket Market or home garden and do not cross it for the duration of the video, whether it is long or short

In this crazy world of individualism, most of the times you need a reminder that you are not alone.

He has a good job here but every peny goes to paying rent and food hardly anything left to send a couple hundred to his parents. And I worked in schools here and don’t even want my kids to go to us public schools. My husband grew up in a village with animals and we want chickens and a garden but you cant get any land here. So our plan is saving money to build a house on some land his parents bought for him and InshAllah eventually move back to his village because we want our kids to grow up with family, learn arabic and be in a good environment. InshAllah because I just can’t picture having a quality life here in the US

I think these types of questions come from people's ignorance of understanding Jordan. There are definitely undertones of stereotyping and racism- the idea that the Middle East is the 'third world' when in reality there are aspects to life there that are much better than in the UK (like access to healthcare, family values, and religion, as you mentioned). It's can feel quite isolating when you're from the UK and have to tackle people's ignorant perceptions of your husband's country and culture. Your comment about the left-wing is very accurate too! I have many friends who would be considered left but also do not understand how dismissive they can be of different values. I guess it's not their fault that they have never been exposed to another culture and been able to objectively critique their own culture. We should count ourselves lucky that we have been able to break away from that mentality and are able to really choose how we want to live our lives, alhamdulillah! It must be frustrating to hear those comments, but I think you do a good job of highlighting the positives of living there, and for that reason, I really enjoy your content. I'm sorry for writing such a long comment! I just think I really related to this in a way, and I would welcome more content about this topic :)

Wow Rachel! Your appreciation for the small things in Jordan is really admirable. We lose our selves searching for perfection while the actual way for happiness is to be appreciative of whatever you have, coping with the limitations, and pushing for improvement. We always should keep an open mind and analyze matters from different view points to find whatever suits us the best.

Jordan is an ancient name. Just like Jacob, Joseph and Jesus all the Js are pronounced differently in the original semitic languages compared to Greek/English. Jacob is Yagub, Joseph is Yousef, and Jesus is Yasou' يسوع or Isso عيسو in Aramaic (the native language of Jesus which is a sister language to Arabic). So in Arabic and ancient semitic languages it's Urdon. In Greek way to english it's Jordan.

@@WandererinAqaba I see, but I feel that it creates an imbalance of flavour, since potatoes add a starchy yet bright and crumbly flavour, eggplant gives a deep yet dark and slightly bitter taste (which gets counteracted by the previously mentioned starchy flavour), and finally, the cauliflower which adds to the bright flavour + gives a nice texture. I feel that the carrots will add to the sweetness and add un-nessecary texture which can ruin the dish. I'm a picky man haha but at the end of the day... to each their own
