Matilda ! 1959 ! Listening to Wolfman Jack, when men didnt have sex changes and girls were glad of it ! Parents could beat your butt and so could the coach or principal ! We stood for the National Anthem, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, had prayer in school, and there was no rap ! Making the "Drag" in a '50 Merc, $2 worth of gas and you could cruise all night, thank God for this music, those who made it and the wonderful memories it brings to life .

There use to be a club in a little town called Lawtell , Louisiana. Every time I went to this club, this song was played on the jukebox there. The name of the club was the Green Lantern Club. One hell of a party place to have a good time. This was back in the 60's and the 70's. On the weekends this place was packed.. Life is good. Charles

It was real honored to have Shelton Dunaway sit in with our band this past November at Annies Drinks in Lake Charles . Listening to him sing all of his songs and for me, being able to play them with our band was just a highlight of my career as a musician. He signed my guitar which will be treasured for years to come. It was also a great honor to have his son, our drummer playing as a full time member of the band, The Louisiana Scramblers.

I read all the names of people who sent in comments about Cookie and His Cupcakes and didn't recognize any despite growing up in Lake Charles, Cookie would often stop at one of my Dad's service stations (Billups on Broad St). I was always with my Dad and would service Cookie's old white Pontiac station wagon when he pulled in to gas up and had many conversations with him. Being a young boy it always excited me to talk to Cookie and see all the band members and to this day, I still love their music. I can still remember all the words to all his popular songs and every now and then play and listen to them again as I am doing today. His music certainly had an influence on me. Today I own a record shop and while I never get a request for one of his songs, they are here just in case someone wants a copy.

Where’s the record shop? Sounds like a great place and that’s an amazing memory you’ve got there. I’m actually working on a project to keep people’s memories alive for future generations and wondered if you might like to answer a few questions about your memories over the years? Might be nice to put some of them to paper but only if you’d like to of course 📖

Definitely, Cookie and the Cupcakes, my favorite group of the 50s. They're not as popular or as famous as the Coasters, the Platters, or the Drifters, but in my own personal opinion, they're simply the BEST! I wonder if they ever recorded a Christmas song. Elvis might be the king, but I'd bet Blue Christmas would've sounded even better with Cookie and the Cupcakes.

So, still lookin fer King Carl...."They began in the early 1950's as The Boogie Ramblers (leader and trumpet player Ernest Jacobs, drummer Simon "Kedee" Lubin, guitarist Marshall LeDee and saxophonist/vocalist Shelton Dunaway), and were joined by Cookie sometime in the summer of 1952 after securing a recording contract with the Goldband label. Their first release there in 1955, however, had Dunaway performing the vocals on Cindy Lou b/w Such As Love, although by 1956 Thierry had taken over and they were henceforth known as Cookie And His (The) Cupcakes."

Always by my name along with my nickname. That people began to think that was actually my name.
