Apart from different tastes of Potato Species, there are basically three kinds, depending on what you use them for, eg for Baket Potatoes you want the really large kind, for Mash you usually use "mjölig" (can't translate that) and in most other cases you want "fast" (Firm). Pucko is traditionally sold at fast food places like Hot Dog stands, so is/was had with a Hot Dog/Burger, kind of like a Milk Shake. All in all very well done, I would have caremelized the onions longer for the Stekt fläsk med löksås, my choise of meat for it is "stekfläsk". I don't boil the Meatballs in the gravy, just pour the gravy on top of them when serving, all my family members and all my friends, past and present, do it that way. For mildly crazy, try a number of kinds of "inlagd sill" (Pickled Herring) or "kräftor" (Crayfish/Crawfish). I'm sure you've heard about "surströmming" (Fermented Herring), that one is if you want REALLY crazy. I like it personally, but most non Swedes (and many Swedes) hates it.

look. Lingonberry jam is not a condiment. It is part of the dish. The dish is not complete without it. You need it in order to complement the flavors. @alexanderwingeskog758
Ай бұрын
I love Sjömansbiff, but I do it totally different. I do as my mother did, it's a bit original but so much easier and I think the taste is just awesome... The only thing wrong with Sjömansbiff is that it's not as good in the freezer because of the potatoes... I tried once with just cooking the potatoes normally (and separate it so you can freeze it with out the potatoes and then just cook potatoes "fresh" and unfreeze the "stew"... But that was not good either as the potatoes takes all the flavor of the stew... (yes my Sjömansbiff is more like stew)... ---edit My mothers variant (and mine) it's easy... a big pot, get something called "grytbitar" (it's the meat and it's usually or was cuts that did not really make or "leftovers" it into the packaged meat so it's different cuts of beef nowadays I actually don't know, maybe they actually cut different beef to "make" "grytbitar". Anyway this you cut into strips (I usually do 4 strips per "cube"). Then some butter into the pot and fry them for a bit of color/taste with some salt, pepper (lots of pepper almost to a high spice level) then I add a lots of unions maybe 4-5 (chopped but large pieces) and fry that also then bit of water and then a dark beer (not porter though, I use 50 centiliter of Falcon Bayerskt 3.5) then bayleaves (2-3) a bit of stock (calf) and let it cook/simmer for about 30 mins, then I add potatoes (big ones then I split them into 8 smaller ones) and then also let that simmer for about 30 mins or when the potatoes is cooked... timing though I don't remember but you should time it so that the "grytbitar" meat is "melting" in your mouth and the potatoes are fully cooked... So it's more of a beef/potatoe/union stew kindy of thing (my variant of Sjömansbiff)... but it's so easy and sooo tasty... again I use lots of pepper for so it's almost spicy. Never done it with beetroot added on the plate, but I guess you can do that. My "stew" though will have much liquid so I use a bowl... parsley sure sometimes... I know it's not classic Sjömansbiff but that is the way I like it, and still call it Sjömansbiff... I tried a classic recipe once but I did not like it as much... ---edit2 The "Stekt fläsk med löksås" is just an awesome dish. I mostly do what you did (but I use bacon actually, should be I think something called "Rimmat fläsk"). I use the fat from pork and add that to the sauce... another tip is to actually sprinkle a bit of sugar when you fry unions the taste of unions is sooo enhanced by that (yes salt/pepper ofc also).

The thick bacon you used is extra salted and is called "rimmat".. you could instead search for "stekfläsk" that's basically the same thick piece but not extra salted. I might be biased because I come from that area in Sweden.. but you could do a try with "Skånsk äggakaka" that's a oven-baked omelett.. kinda like a thicker and juicier yorkshire pudding. But if you really want to become one of the swedes you really need to know that you always have to have Lingon berries at home. Everything you made in this video would work with lingon berries.. but not Pytt i Panna.... that's where you go beatroots. :) I don't really think it's common because I seem to be the only one to know about it -but in our family we have an old dish that came down from my grandmother that is: Boiled rice with a minced meat sauce containing following: Minced pork Chopped yellow leeks Chicken stock Lots of Dill Milk or cream Flour or Maizena to thicken a little Salt & Pepper Third and last tip would be the wierd take on "Flygande Jacob" ..but because I'm wierd I also add mandarines into the mix together with the bananas and chicken.

The dish "Swedish meatballs" is not about just the meatballs themselves, the dish isn't complete without Lingonberries, pickled cucumber, cream sauce and potatoes (preferably mashed). The combination of all these tastes: savoury/salt, sweet and sour constitutes the dish. Leave any of the ingredients out, it's not complete and shouldn't be reviewed as "Swedish meatballs".
