I've got a 1922 Standard wood cookstove up here in Northern NH. We use it all the time. Baked a birthday cake in it last week. You have to watch your heat and pay attention but when you can heat part of the house and enjoy cooking on it during a cold New Hampsire Winter... Nothing better. No electricity, no propane, no nothing but cordwood off my land.

@marcclement7396- Hello from our working farm in Central Lakes Region New Hampshire. I restored our great uncle's 1930 Home Comfort kitchen wood stove. Heats our 1,000 square foot farm cottage just fine. Great to have when a snow storm takes out the power. ~ Diane

I find it hard to maintain the right temperature to cook bread and cakes. Just made 2 lovely loafs of bread and the tops burnt 🥹

To me, and I grew up with wood stoves, food cooked on wood stoves tastes better. Ever eat pound cake made with churned butter from cream from fresh milk? Oh Boy!

I haven't heard that expression "make you wanna slap your mama" for a long time. I have a glorious windsor parlor stove that I heat my house with...most of the time I use anthracite coal... the heat is so nice...great video 👍

Hi from Western Australia 🇦🇺 👋 I’ve an old wood stove in the kitchen and it also heats my water. The hardest thing that I’m trying to learn is baking bread or cakes, and getting & maintaining the correct temperature. Just burnt the top of 2 loaves, but still not cooked in the middle. The ones in Australia don’t really heat the house, might be cause they’re boxed in?

I saw on another channel that you get the top of the loaf nice and browned then just loosely cover with tinfoil while the rest of the loaf bakes. A hotspot at the back left (I think?) was also mentioned, so the loaf needed to be moved around and turned.

I’ve brought up my kids with knowledge of their grandparents working and living hard in comparison to our now a day. I do appreciate your line though that “old timers didn’t have it as bad as we thought they did”. That is a nice presentation of a nice unit they had and it certainly should be admired.

@@papawfamilyadventures7526 Actually I am a "base" player, who loves to fish. Grew up on the Great Lakes, rivers, and trout streams in Michigan. Besides playing "base", fishing, hunting deer, both in Michigan and Wyoming, and restoring cast iron cookware, have become my hobbies-in-retirement. Will check it out for sure. God Bless!
