Hi, I’m Tu David Phu, Top Chef Alumnus, Vietnamese-American, and SF Chronicle Rising Star Chef from Oakland. My extensive resume reflects a wide range of interesting experiences centered around food; cutting my culinary teeth in the kitchens of some of the nation’s top restaurants; cooking with incarcerated men in San Quentin Penitentiary; to my role as co-executive producer for Bloodline, a film about my family and food prejudice; to my advisory community work to democratize food injustices.
But it was my “memory of taste” that pulled me back to my Vietnamese roots; cooking with my mother. Similar to my own story in food, I've found that these stories are seldom told. In my attempt to celebrate these stories, I started my KZitem Channel 'Cooking with Chef Tu' in 2021.
