On this episode of Cooking with Clara, we are making Meringue Cookies! Yum, yum, yummy!
Meringue Cookie Recipe:
6 large egg whites room temperature
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar (300g)
Instructions:
-Preheat oven to 200F.
-Combine egg whites, cream of tartar, salt, and vanilla in a clean, grease-free bowl.
-Mix on medium speed until mixture becomes foamy.
-Increase speed and add sugar, about 1 tablespoon at a time.
-Beat until mixture is thick, shiny, and can produce stiff peaks.
-Add in colour (if desired).
-Place meringue in piping bags and pipe onto cookie sheet with parchment paper. (Use meringue mix to secure parchment to the sheet for easy piping).
-Bake on 200F for 45 minutes. (Add time if your meringues are piped thick) Turn off the oven once the baking time has passed, and do not open the oven. Leave the oven door closed and allow cookies to cool completely in the oven (at least 30 minutes but up to 2 hours if thick meringues)
-Meringue cookies should be crisp and can be stored in an airtight container. Keep away from heat and moisture.
