My grandmother was from Mexico and I remember her making a yucca flower dish with tomatoes and onions. I couldn't remember when she harvested the flower for the dish, but you answered my question. The flower gets bitter with time so it must be a tender early harvest. It's not spring yet so I can attempt to cook the early blooms when they come out and duplicate my grandma's dish. Thank you so much.

When I was young we had a family farm in South-Central Kentucky I spent my summers on. Grand Father milked about 15 Cows (by hand) as a supplement to the income (Twice a day milking got about 2 full milk cans, picked up next Morn.), in early spring the wild onions (which here is actually a type of wild Garlic), would be the first to start growing good, the Cows would get into them, and until the onions played themselves out you couldn't sell your milk for the premium price because of the strong Garlic flavor the milk had, it was then used for secondary milk products.

Love the video Bob. Having recently moved permanently to New Mexico, Alamogordo, I found thousands of Yucca/Spanish Daggers around our land & very nearby mountain foothills. I have enjoyed the blossoms many times. Funny thing is, a few local contractors who were building my home saw me harvesting & enjoying the blossoms, thinking I was a crazy Yank. They claim they had never heard of eating the blossoms. I whipped up a big batch of them as you prepared along with some Chorizo. They loved it and still think I am a crazy Yank. Thanks for the info. These have become a regular spring vegetable favorite.

That was an exceptionally good video. I hate it when someone says that you can eat something, and they don't actually eat it. It leaves me wondering what part of it can be eaten? Do I have to scrape it, or cook it or somehow prepare it to make it safe? As far as I'm concerned, it's all poison until I see it go from the living plant and all the way into somebody eating it. Also, I always wonder if there is anything that one might mistake for a wild edible that is actually poison. You covered all that just as It should be done. Thank you.

I know the feeling with the knives and the edges. Because of this I usually carry at least two knives for this same reason: One I can use for utilitarian purposes, usually a bigger "beater" knife that I don't mind abusing; and the second one a smaller (about 5 inches overall with about 3 inches of plain, non-serrated edge, with a drop point usually, maybe even clip point) blade that I can keep sharper for finer tasks that require a sharper edge and more finesse.

Yeah, I was thinking some of what he was doing would be better with a hatchet. I always bring a hatchet and a heavy duty trash compactor bag in a backpack whenever I'm doing anything in the wilderness, even if it's just a hike or a horse ride with no other goals. Mostly for meat, but both of those can also be useful for shelter or wood gathering.
