Machines & More absolutely. By far this is the best case I’ve come across so far, and trust me, I’ve been watching the evolution of SFF cases for quite some time now, researching EVERY single case that was manufactured at this point. Considering it’s affordability AND hardware compatibility, this is by far one of the most accommodating cases on the market right now. No wonder it sparks so much interest! Don’t stop experimenting with it😎! Looking forward to the 3000 series videos now from u! Cheers! And again - great work.

Machines & More also, there should be an equivalent to Cerberus X (just slightly larger than NR200) with full ATX boards support, yet implementing a SFF so we could take full advantage of the hardware. Cerberus and it’s bigger brother X-version lack radiator support. While it’s possible, the options are limited that’s the reason why I ended up NOT going with it.

@@MachinesMore thanks a lot indeed! I have migrated parts from the TU150 into the nr200 last week, since the GPU (3080 XC3 from Evga) was just getting choked with high thermals as a result. CPU temps (5800x) were great when paired with the Scythe Mugen 5 PCGH edition, which makes sense, considering the airflow of the case. I have slapped a single NF-A12 on now for intake since a second Scythe fan did not fit the case in the back for the pull/exhaust with the I Aorus x570 mobo. 2 slim Scythe Kaze flex are mounted under the GPU. 1 included top fan as exhaust. Aesthetically I would love a 2 fan exhaust in the top, so not sure how to approach that yet. Results for now: GPU temps under stress load are 7-9 (!!!) degrees lower than in the old case, with less fan noise. CPU is cool under load as well, although a bit jumpy in gaming, which is known for the model. So very happy so far. But just can't stand that there's only 1 Cpu fan on the tower, making me think it can get even cooler in there. So today, the C14s is coming in, and can't wait to see what it'll do in comparison.

I came across this case yesterday after I realised that my Nitro+ 6800xt (on preorder) won’t fit my preferred RVZ01 which I liked due to the slim profile and great thermals for ITX. I am building a high end gaming rig which is to be tucked behind my living room really so there aren’t many options. Most of the ITX cases wouldn’t accommodate a 55mm thick card without compromising thermals on both GPU and CPU. After I learnt about this card, I have been watching your videos non-stop. Never before I have seen anyone done such a comprehensive analysis of the case. Can’t thank you enough for answering all my potential questions. Keep up the great work.

Great detailed analysis. The only thing I would like to have seen added would be the VRM thermals. It would appear that the C14S would have the best VRM thermals as it's the only one blowing air across the motherboard but it would be nice to have confirmation.

If you are ballsy you can try 4mm standoffs or modding the side panel if you already have a larger cooler. Just throwing out alternatives for people like me, that already had an old NH-D15 and didn't want to waste money on another cooler. I fell in love with this case and made it work. I chose to mod the side panel, but have seen a few cases of using shorter standoffs that worked just fine. The 4mm standoffs will cause some minor I/O displacement, but you should still be able to use everything just fine. Just be aware that it might cause issues with clearance for M.2 drives and you have to ensure the motherboard doesn't come close to the metal. You also have to ensure you have shorter screws that work in the shorter standoffs or use some kind of spacer. The modded side panel can actually turn out kind of cool. I provided an example below, not my mod btw. www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/igeyxv/cut_holes_in_my_nr200_to_fit_a_nhd15s/

Quite happy with my Fuma2 cooling an R5 3600 on an MSI B450i. I have dual 120mm fans up top exhausting with 3-4mm clearance between the grill and the Fuma2. No rendering, just gaming and normal web browsing, so I run 2 120mm fans intaking under the Sapphire 5700XT to help GPU temps as the CPU isn't too stressed in the games I play. I've gradually shrunk my system down from a big mATX case to a Define NanoS and now the NR200, and ditched all my watercooling gear. Fantastic series of videos mate!

Just wanna say thanks for this video! I came from a full-tower ATX setup but took your C14S recommendation to finally downsize to an NR200 and I'm really happy with it! I used front mount for the PSU though so I could mount 2x140mm fans on the C14S plus a 3.5" HDD on the PSU bracket and ended up with even better CPU deltas. For the C14S, I had the stock Noctua on the bottom and an Arctic Bionix 140 on top. My Asus B550i mobo also had a lower mounting position so I managed to put a second 120x25 top rear exhaust fan in there too, though I put a low noise adapter on it so that (theoretically) the top front exhaust would pull more of the GPU exhaust away from the C14S.

Are you able to mount something like the U12S so that it blows upward? Planning on getting an NR200P when they're finally available for sale. Two top exhaust fans, a Founders 3080, plus (likely) a CPU tower cooler rotated so that it blows upward. Takes advantage of the "chimney" effect, minimizes changes in airflow direction, and gives the 3080's pass-through exhaust an easy way out (directly to the top 120mm exhaust rather than getting sucked into a sideways cpu tower).
@MachinesMore
4 жыл бұрын
You could- with an Intel socket just rotate it 90 degrees. For AM4 you will either need to have the SE AM4 version or request the brackets from Noctua separately. I’m kind of curious myself how well that will work but I’m wondering if the GPU exhaust just gets dumped in pretty unilaterally from underneath. The 3080 may somehow work out well, we have to wait and see. However, for GPUs that exhaust out the sides, that may be a recipe for extra heat for the CPU. We’re still pretty tight on space so whether it’s bottom up or side out, it’s still intaking close to the GPU.

I think the addition of the glass panel will restrict the ability of the C14s to draw cool air from the top, though it will have the back opening to help (an intaking 92mm would hugely help but unfortunately won't fit). I would think that you would be better off with a regular tower there since the airflow pattern is more dependent on the top fans. So, Fuma 2 or U12A depending on budget/cooling needs. And I am glad you enjoyed the videos!

No words can express how thankful I am for these extensive analysis videos of the NR200. I couldn't find it anywhere else! Finding the best case scenario using tower coolers in the case is also quite appreciated, because well, the keyword in this statement is "best". As additional content, may I suggest experimenting with case fan configurations while using the stock cooler of the 3700X? I think the NR200 is more than capable enough to keep thermals in check. I could argue that many people who are checking out the NR200 are attracted mostly due to the price, hence, could be on a budget. Undoubtedly, the reach of the NR200 has gone beyond the realm of power users or performance enthusiasts because of that great price. I for one am wondering if I can just keep the NR200 stock fans (top and back), slap on the stock CPU cooler in the 3700X, then add a 120mm fan on the side bracket, blowing air from outside directly towards the CPU cooler. Will it throttle or will it be good enough? How does it compare to the best scenario? Sometimes I do wonder if there's too much content being made about the best case scenario, and not enough about the "cheap but good enough". Anyway, just my thoughts. Even if overlooked, I am genuinely appreciative of the work you have done so far and will not likely to change my decision of buying this case, as soon as I can do so locally. Seriously, thank you!
@MachinesMore
4 жыл бұрын
Well, thank you for that. I like to present a few options because everybody has different priorities. For the stock cooler, I will be looking at low profile cooling options so that's something that I will do in that installment. Based on what I can glean so far about airflow in this case, just stick the fan on the top. The top fans will partially intake from the side anyway, but the big thing is you want to exhaust the hot air out quickly, especially since you are pushing it towards the mobo. I have no doubt the stock cooler works fine, the question is how loud can your ears handle under load! I see absolutely no reason that you shouldn't start with the stock cooler and just slowly upgrade as you need.

Thanks for doing all of this testing! It would be great if you could sum up all of your videos and just give a few recommendations. There's just too many hours of video here to watch it all. I recommend including benchmarks for 1) best low cost air cooling solution and configuration (maybe a $40-60 cooler, and 1-3 extra case fans ... whatever you can do for reasonable money while stopping before diminishing returns) and 2) best high end air cooler and case fan configuration (again while staying reasonable, 99% of people don't want to spend $100 in noctua case fans to gain 1 degree or 1 decibel), and then best aio water cooler and configuration... and I actually have ordered two NR200P cases, one black and one white... so it would be great to do the same final recommendations for these cases with glass, both horizontal and vertical gpu... I know this is a big ask but I think it will be helpful for a lot of people... and I know you have the data, lol

This was so helpful, thanks for talking me out of the U12a and putting forth a good argument for the C14s. I'm curious about the clearance above the C14s and fan compatibility at the top of the case. I know you mentioned that the 120mm fan does not fit for the C14s, but does for the U12a. There's a 15mm difference in the width of the two, so a slim fan should fit above the C14s right? I think that if it does, the C14s would be better for this case not only because the GPU temps have better potential, but the slim fan should close the gap in CPU temps, if not allow it to perform better than the U12a, no?
@MachinesMore
4 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. I couldn’t fit a slim fan over either since there was pressure on the center making it not turn. However- this part is heavily motherboard dependent and my test board happens to be one of the higher CPU sockets for ITX boards. If you’re running something lower like the Asus Strix boards, you will probably be able to fit a slim fan over, however you will need to determine how to attach it. The CPU temps are already on par with the U12A if you’re using a good pull fan under the heatsink. The top fan isn’t strictly needed at that point. The idea is that there’s still plenty of open space for the hot air to be expelled, either side, or top of the heatsink. There’s a generous amount of clearance between the heatsink and the motherboard so still room for air to move around. Putting the 140mm fan on the rad panel also really helps.

It's now possible to fit a D15-S now. There are a few modders out there who 3D printed spacers to create space for larger cpu towers and top hats for the nr200p to use a 240mm aio at the top. Along with atx psu brackets to fit an atx psu (max 150mm) inside.

Hey Machines & More, I did a NR200p build this week, and I watched your NR200 videos religiously. Based on your measurements with the NR200p I got the C14S with the A14 on the side mount and an A12 pulling underneath. Do you think a Noctua 120mm slim fan on top (so case top exhaust) of the C14s would help with thermals, or would changes be negligible? Oh, and do you use any of the Noctua low power adapters? I noticed Noctua recommends a LPA in the manual for the top C14S fan when in push/pull mode.

This depends on the motherboard. I'm revisiting this build soon with an Asus board, and I'll quantify the impact. Anecdotally, no, I don't think the thermals will benefit heavily from having the fan over it.

Purchased U12A. Case NR200P. Mother board : 490i Unify from MSI. TG is far from closing. Vented pannel closes perfectly without bulging. Can tell if heatpipes touch the pannel, but if it does, there is no stress. Had Mugen5 for short time, not U12A. Noctua's cooler is much better. Temps are way lower for i9 10900 non k with power limits removed. With noctua ~70 (thermal paste NT-H1), with scythe up to high 80 ( stock scythe thermal paste) when testing in Cinebench r23. Mugen 5 was fully compatible with TG pannel.

Subbed! If you were to put another side fan in the case the the C14S setup, which direction would you set it up? To suck air in, or blow air out?

I’ve done this before with flow through coolers- intake is a little better. Otherwise... a second panel fan is of marginal benefit.

Great video. I really appreicate the thorough breakdown, and I especially appreciate that you've provided so many videos detailing every aspect of the NR200. Good job! The only thing I don't fully understand is how a fan blowing hot air back at the CPU (as with the NH-C14S) is at all effective at cooling it. If the NH-U12A running as rear-exhaust negatively impacts CPU thermals by drawing in exhaust from the GPU, how is it that the NH-C14S doesn't also negatively impact CPU thermals by pushing all the hot air from the heatsink right back at the CPU? In both cases you've got unwanted hot air being drawn into where you don't want it. Also, second question: I noticed the temp difference between the NH-C14S and NH-U12A is only about a degree. Is that a significant difference? If I'm running a 3950X at stock speeds should I even worry about such a small difference? Thank you.

There should be extra mounting inbox with C14 for a 120mm fan. (I think its 120mm but I'm sure there is one)

On your final “Honey Badger” fan configuration, did you manage to fit two top fans? It looks like the radiator is in the way of the top rear fan in that final side shot. Thank you so much for all your amazing work with this case! This is going to be my first SFFPC and you’ve been super detailed and helpful.

It won’t fit with the Aorus board but you could probably get a slim fan up there if you really wanted. For the most part if you have a pull fan underneath, there’s a lot of airflow already so that fan overhead has much less use. Because it’s a slightly positive pressure system with three intakes and one exhaust you’d be getting some air exiting that area anyway.

@@MachinesMore How did you mount the NF-A12 to the underside on the Honey Badger build? I bought a pair of NF-A12x15 fans thinking I could use one for the top exhaust and the other for the under radiator pull fan, but I can’t mount it for the life of me. 😅

Man you're on a streak with those great videos! Keep up! Do you think that with an 3080 the PSU cables will interfere with the fan on the backplate side of the VGA while using the top exaust fan? (botton PSU bracket setting needed for top fan, right?)
@MachinesMore

You got it! I do think so, yes, it’s going to cover that fan and heck, might even stop the fan from spinning. Moving the PSU to the front of the case will be the only option, short of any modding. I hope it’s not too long, otherwise....

@@MachinesMore wait in order to mount the psu higher (no top 25mm fan) it must be at the front? That's bad if it's the case. If it's possible to keep the normal psu orientation just higher I think the C14S with an A12 exhausting in the front side will be a good setup (the NF14 might ingest some of this hot air back but it's better than nothing... The U12A intaking from the back and exhausting to the side with another A12 exhausting both GPU and CPU hot air would be ideal... It's a shame that side bracket won't fit... Worth modding I guess

Your videos on this case helped SO much. Love how in depth all these videos are. Liked and subscribed and that's something I rarely do. Side note - I am seeing peak CPU temps of 45 above ambient and GPU temps of 52 above ambient (Ryzen 5600x, 3070, Fuma 2 exhaust, top right case fan exhaust, no bottom fans) while gaming. Do you think that is within standard deviation of your results? I am thinking maybe my cable management(or lack thereof) may be playing a part but my results seem a good bit higher than yours and I'm not even running benchmark software. Thanks for any input and again love the channel!

Are you using a 3070 FE card? With a higher powered GPU without bottom fans, the best config is going to be what you described- but you can get better results with bottom fans and rear intake (part II of air cooling thermals will drop later). Those aren't abnormal temps since I'm guessing you are running the CPU at stock or PBO, basically in that scenario it is boosting itself to that level because it can. It also depends on if those are results from 4K or 1440p, or 1080p, my guess is you're probably playing at 1440p and that puts the CPU at a moderate/high level while the GPU is fully utilized.

Excellent content. Ihave been thinking about changing my InWin A1 for the NR200. This is giving me a lot of insight. Have you ever tried to build anything on the InWin A1? I would love to see you tackle thermals on that case, specially considering it is a premium mini ITX case. I wish more mini ITX cases would implement a front mesh to boost thermal potential. Thanks!

Hi! Another subscriber here. I'm waiting for the video about RTX 3080 and Air cooling options in this case. Specially that C14S +A12 combination you're suggesting in this video. I was just reviewing this though, and I wonder why you haven't used two A14's instead? (one on the NR200 side panel and another one below the heatsink). I wonder what numbers you'd get with that combination.

In your other video on optimising thermals in NR200, you showed bottom and rear intake, and top exhaust was the best orientation. What if, it were set up so the intakes are at the bottom plus the TOP RIGHT fan, and the exhaust at the rear and TOP LEFT fan right above the heatsink?? What do you predict the thermals would be for this setup? I want to do this because front of the CPU cooler fans look aesthetically better, so if the fans are flipped for a rear intake, the fans would look ugly.

Wow a mtb guy with a sff air cooling review... Sweet ❤️ But you should really try alpenföhn olymp & thermalright silver arrow not in nr200 but in general as i think they will beat d15 & you'll be the first one to review & compare them as thers not a single review on both (test with noctua fans as then it'll be even more epic) Ps: try arctic p12 & P14 they are 10 bucks each &. They are equally matched with a12 & a14 is anyways way worse than a12 so the p14 is anyday better than a14. (so the cost argument is dusted & done for upgraded fans)
