I once was the proud owner of a Santa Cruz bullet prototype. Polished aluminum main frame and swing arm. 6 inch Fox Vanilla float coil/oil rear and a 6 inch Marzochi junior T coil/oil fork with polished legs. It was the most beautiful free ride bike you had ever seen.It took every thing I could throw at it for almost 17 years. Id jump it off roofs to a flat landing no problem. Every time id mis judge a jump and over shoot or come up short it would eat every mistake for breakfast and turn every failure in to a sucksess .finally something I did every day on my way to work coming down an overpass using 15 stairs as a launch over a walkway 15foot wide to land down a slope for some loading docks. Had to break check to avoid car coming of the freeway. When I got to the stairs I knew I had scrubbed to much speed to clear the walk way. With no way to abort was already comited to the send. As I launched off the top step I threw the bike as far as I could stretch to make the landing. I camel backed it straddleing with one tire on the walkway the other tire on the loading dock landing. Snap went the mono cock pivot point. I have never owned or riddin a bike cince that has given me the fearlessness that that bike gave me. I miss it terribly

Santa Cruz Skateboards is the oldest continuously running skateboard company in skateboarding. Somewhere around 1973 or 74, Richard Novak, Doug Haut, and Jay Sherman founded the business, NHS is an acronym from their initials; Novak, Haut, and Sherman. Sherman was bought out early on, then Haut sold his share to Novak. And Haut went on to start his own surfing line business. This is all directly from my dad who knows them and went to Santa Cruz High with them.

You know i always see people bragging about how quick their bike stops bouncing, but to me thats a bad bike, means suspension is way wrong for when you throw and extra 180lbs of person on and actually hit a bump.
@strictlykev311

It'll be bouncier with more weight on it, this is showing how stiff they can be while still absorbing impact.. if it was bouncy a heavy person would sink it down even more
@floreschris5574
2 ай бұрын
It cam get bouncy with a flick of a switch. When you want to go fast, you make the suspension stiff, so your peddling power isn't absorbed by the suspension . When you want to go downhill, you just flick the switch, and you have traditional tremendous suspension.

No it's actually the same idea behind the helmet design it looks like. Helmets crack after absorbing the hit instead of bouncing. The bounce is the counter effect of the hit and at high speed collision you don't want a bounce back. I guess same idea behind the no bounce on this bike
@lucky7s94
2 ай бұрын
Just because it is stiff does not mean throwing 180lbs on it will make it necessarily bouncy or ride terrible. Spring rate and absorption rate are two different things but go hand in hand if the combo is right. It's more or less stiff because of dampening stiffness... not spring pressure. Seems pretty dialed in to me.

I remembered assembling one together back in 2011, and as soon as I was finished the first thing I did was this exact drop test, and it passed just like this bike did in this video 🎉

I love how nobody is talking about how squeaky that shit is. I been a bike tech for 10 years and I never heard disc break sound like that.

This is actually bad suspension. It is overdampened. This is going to be a nightmare on bumpy surfaces. Suspension is going to collapse and feel very hard.

Isn't it critical damping? Does this damper feature high speed / low speed? The damper should be adjustable, right?

nearly 20 years since I sold my Club Roost DH8. Had 10" triple clamp Marzocchi up front with 220 disk and 4 piston Hope mini. A 200 rear with same caliper. Heavy old bike but was solid for downhill
