It is absolutely a trait of the breed. If you have a Walker that doesn't talk, something isn't right. I've never met a Walker that wasn't vocal once it was in a safe and happy environment.

Honestly having two is the best thing EVER! They are still needy, but it really does help. We fostered Bri before we adopted her just to make sure it was the right thing. The first night they cuddled up together and we knew it was perfect. Bri did take about 6 months to potty train - due to her previous abuse but now she is wonderful!

We just adopted a brother and sister duo, half Coonhound, half Labrador. Even at 10 weeks, we are already a much more vocal household. Our adult three non-hound dogs and one cat are mystified these two can be so full of energy AND communication. Rooooroooo I am hungry! Rooooroooo I want to play! Rooooroooo I am thirsty! Rooooroooo I need a pee! Rooooroooo I need a poo! Rooooroooo...uh, nothing. Just practicing my Rooooroooo's!! Edit: so far, the female is way more vocal than her brother, and they play like these two with take downs and throttling each other by the neck. 🙄 Later edit: the boy has become much more directly vocal like in the video. His favorite game is to "lose" his favorite ball under the furniture then throw a whiny tantrum until a human gets it for him.

Same! We have a 1.5 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound x Lab and we used to live next door to her sister. At first we thought it awesome but the way they played when they were really young, they’d always draw blood somehow. So rough! Thankfully we have a small Havanese so she learned how to play gentle but I couldn’t imagine having a sibling set!

Funny girl! We adopted a rescue walker hound almost three weeks ago, and she is totally silent (other than whining a little here and there)- curious to see if she stays silent or not! I think she was either abused or bark collared early on, as she does have some very skittish behavior sometimes and can barely handle scolding of any kind- It made me sad when I saw her papers, that at one point there was three of them together. Now she is a solo doggie :/ BUT she gets play time with the neighbor dog and other family dogs, which she loves.

I have a 7 month old Coonhound/Blue Heeler mix and she is wearing me out. I wonder if we should get her a Coonhound playmate? I know she's a puppy but she is nonstop trouble with a capital T! There is not enough time in the day for me to entertain her and I don't want to break her spirit. Would they get along? Would they bond with each other and forget about me? I don't know what to do. We actually think about giving her up but that's a hard thought.

Yes. I rescued Saydee and after a few months of being stressed I went to my vet for advice. She suggested getting another one. I thought she was crazy but the reality is my dog likes other dogs more than people. Saydee longs for attention continually. The other thing that we did is we bought shock collars with a mile range as well. Our dogs only do well on the lease after they are tired which is about an hour after a full run. We bought our Sport Dog collars from Bass Pro. They were about $175 each but worth every penny. We take our dogs to the dog park and they used to run off to not be caught for hours.....but when I use the sound beep on the collar they come looking for me. It also has allowed us to be able to take our dogs with us places. They can jump out of the car and run around with us - we even just take them to a few fields by our house and they run together smelling / hunting. I watched a few videos to learn how to train them with the collars and it only took about 10 mins in our living room before my dogs behaved. In the video Saydee is talking which is cute. BUT - if I were to even show her the remote for her collar she would be quite and lay down. It's allowed us freedom to enjoy our dogs but also for them to get what they need which is to run. Walking them only causes them more frustration. They need to bolt, run, climb and bark. My suggestion is to get a collar for your dog so that you have the freedom to run him even if it's just in the yard around your house. You can take the lease outside with you but that collar will keep your dog with you after he's trained. Then, if you have a park you can go to daily or every other day it will make a world of difference. Sorry for such a long post but we were lost for what to do. Get the collar first and if the attention thing doesn't ease up then consider fostering another dog. If your dog takes to the other dog or if your dog plays with other dogs at the dog park then maybe a second dog is the additional answer. It was for us.

OMG... That makes so much more sense now. We live in a apt and used to be allowed to let our dog off leash. Its now illegal in our area, and the behavior is getting really bad. We haven't been able to take him to a park lately because of schedule and illness. I looked into those collars before but wasn't sure about them. I think we shall definitely get one now!.... Good to know after showing this video to my husband our guy isn't the only one that likes to obsessively wag the tail LOL... We call him our table sweeper because of it. Thanks so much for the advice. :)
@StinaNiday

Elizabeth Hollands no problem and good luck. BTW it's illegal for us to have them off leash as well. We have found however that even if we put them in the car and drive to an area close to us that it's better than nothing. Our park is only about 10 mins away but even just after dinner sometimes we'll go for a ride to this field in the back of an industrial area and they run for 15 mins and it just helps to get them relaxed. The collars are the only way to go for sure. Take care!
