Nice rundown Cooper. I'm particularly impressed that you have a vinyl collection which as you obviously know is truly where it's at! You have a nice, eclectic and balanced 'favourites' list. As a UK watcher of your channel I'm particularly impressed to see Zep, The Who, George Harrison and Radiohead/Wilco feature on your list. I would love to sit down and really think about my own 'Top 10 or top 5' favourite albums! For sure Led Zeppelin would make the list (HOTH, LZ1 or LZ3) along with probably Gary Moore's Still Got The Blues, Back In Black' by AC/DC, Neil Diamond 'Touching You, Touching Me', A-Ha 'The Sun Always Shines On TV', Simple Minds 'Live In The City Of Light', ABBA 'Super Trouper' , 'Appetite For Destruction' by G'n'R and 'Live At The Filmore' or 'In Concert' by Derek & The Dominos.

Cooper, we are in sync. Hendrix Smash Hits Zeppelin Houses of the Holy and Led Zepellin III, Cream in Wheels of Fire Chicago Transit Authority Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore Breezin George Benson. Honorable mention Frank Zappa Hot Rats (peaches and regalia), E.C. unplugged I am saddened that I no longer have an album collection I had to sell my 1000 album collection and the same number of Cassettes and CD's were given up in my move.

Sloppy Jim is the reason why I picked up the guitar in the first place lol. To many Zep albums to pick a favorite. Houses of the Holy is a great start, The Doobie brothers The Captain and me way up there for me, Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East, Jeff Beck blow by blow, the band free Live free. Very hard to choose a top five I left a lot of stuff out there. Sticky fingers from the Rolling Stones. I can tell you for sure that sticky fingers and the captain of me were played so much that I wore out the grooves on the records great guitar or not. An honorable mention Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys I wore out the grooves on that one as well. Top-five is almost impossible for me, top 10 is a little bit easier. Great choice Cooper keep up the great work!

Great "Top Five", Cooper! Willie has to be in there (one of the 'Highwaymen' with Kris, Waylon and Johnny). We'd sing along with "Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" (or fish biologists) in the bar on the way home in Wyoming (probably in Montana and Idaho, too, but those memories can be a bit fuzzy). "Rain Song" from Houses of the Holy is a "better than Stairway riff" by Jimmy Page playing acoustic and electric, taught in a lesson on Robert Baker's channel. That album was generated by (as I recall) George Harrison visiting them backstage and suggesting that they play some ballads, so the album that resulted has all four members receiving composition and production credits. Joni Mitchell's "Shadows and Light" concert (Look it up on KZitem.) is incredible, featuring Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius and more artists, all given their time to shine solo and beautifully thanked and credited by Joni. Thanks for a great list, and we can hardly wait for Chris' ranking.

Thanks for this, Cooper. Great to have you rate 'All Things Must Pass' as the Top Guitar Album of ALL TIME. I am a Beatles freak (and guitar player), and I think you make some wonderful points about 'ATMP' being the ultimate coming together of George's personality and artistry. I often think that 'Revolver' and especially 'The Beatles' (The White Album) have a huge number of different guitar tones, feels, and parts, so I would include those, too. Not sure if you are familiar with the 'George Harrison' album, but it is full of wonderful songs, all of them with fantastic melodies, and incredible guitar hooks, riffs, and phrases. 'Life Itself' on 'Somewhere in England' has a sublime double lead solo.

There's a lot of good music out there Converge's "Bloodmoon I" The Chariot's "One Wing" Jason Isbell's "Live From the Ryman" La Dispute's "Rooms of the House" City and Colour's "If I Should Go Before You" Recommendations for Cooper specifically, based off your list: listen to the song "Scorpion's Sting" by Converge, or "Panic Machine" by Trophy Scars. OMG! This is a much view for EVERYONE! I agree with all-will revisit many- but by giving Zappa an honorable mention, you not only reveal how grounded you are, but how eclectically developed your musical journey has been. On a personal note, the most influential guitarist in my life-the one who awakened the sleeping guitarist in me-was Michael Hedges. A few days ago I was reminded of that experience when I stumbled upon a video entitled “Cooper Greenberg [Live from Studio B].” “Phenomenal and moving”is the best way to describe your performance. I wondered why it reminded me of Hedges--until I watched THIS video. So that’s the secret, just listen to these albums and and you’ll play as good as the legendary Michael Hedges and Cooper Greenberg! 😎 I’m stoked. Thank you for that! As an "addendum," it would be nice to hear about your guitar-playing journey--not so much a "how to," but more of how "putting in the work" helped/continues to inform your development.

One thing I would like to add is that great guitar work does not have to be prodigious. In fact, faster and crazier playing has never appealed to me more than a huge rhythm part or a simple combo riff. It's all about feel and placement. I think too many young guitarists today focus on the prodigious "impressive" playing rather than what actually sounds good.

Excellent, excellent video. Unexpected recommendation for Ladies of the Canyon! OTOH, Cooper is more than a guitarist, rather a musician, and so is Joni Mitchell. My favorite song on this album is For Free. But no wonder Cooper didn't mention it; it's a piano song, not a guitar tune...although, there's a BBC (I think) recording of a concert given by JM and James Taylor in which they do a breathtaking duet of For Free, making it more of a cowboy song rather than a solo-piano piece. And don't forget that cello line on the studio version. What genius thought of that? Oh yeah, Joni Mitchell! Cooper asked for recommendations. I would like to have seen any compilation of Mississippi John Hurt songs. He inspired me to dive deep into finger-style guitar. Also, the first Dire Straits album, with nothing but guitar, bass, and drums. Fantastic!
