Hey Andreas! Thanks for the video! With so many cyclist around are there any accidents when they bump on each other or something like that? Kostya

Some, but not a lot. The main danger is cars and trucks. There's 1 or 2 fatalities each year. Most drivers are used to bikes and there is safety in numbers, so statistically riding a bicycle in Copenhagen is very safe compared to most other cities.

Kunne du ikke have kørt over cykelslangen og sparet lidt tid?

@andreashammershj622

They look like they’re racing’s Dutch cyclists are way more relaxed.

Yes, I've seen some statistics showing that on average Copenhagen cyclists are a bit faster than their Dutch counterparts. Something like 12 km/h vs 16 km/h, but I don't remember the source. Note though, that this was filmed during peak rush hour and that since I'm riding pretty fast, the slower cyclists are being overtaken quickly and don't get as much screen time as the faster ones.

@@andreashammershj622 I am often allso riding the fast lane, I drink my coffee slowly in, I allso like riding fast, something from adolency in the North of the netherlands. 13 kilometers and allways leaving home late. I think Amsterdam is a bit slower on average, because I see less elderly people on this video than in amsterdam, and in Amsterdam there are more Bakfietsen .

Riding in Pittsburgh is actually quite stressful at times. I wish the USA was more like Europe when it comes to bike infrastructure.

What's so odd about this is that hundreds and hundreds of bikes are squashed together on the edges of the roads while one or two cars (and the odd bus) whizz down wide open spaces. The roads need to be made one-way so only one lane is needed for cars and the extra space given over to bikes. There is nothing relaxing or enjoyable about the way these people are cycling, it reminds me of cycling here in London; everybody racing, stressed out, battling for room, helmets on, heads down. Some men, in full battlegear, lycra and helmets and high viz jackets, seem to enjoy this 'competitive' way of cycling, but it is definitely not enticing to everyone else.

I agree that the streets layouts need to be redistributed. Copenhagen isn't at all a perfect cycling city. Not that one exists to my knowledge. As to rush hour traffic, it does get stressful, but you have a choice. I'm one of the faster riders, which means you mainly see the other fast riders in the video. Going at a slower pace and just sticking to the right, you get a very different experience.

@@andreashammershj622 I cycle in an upright style and like to enjoy the journey, so I mostly stick to the canal towpaths, parks and back streets to get from place to place in London. But if ever I do have to use these busy inner London cycle lanes it is very stressful even if I do cycle slowly and stick to the side. Because there is often someone even slower than me and to pass them, with everyone crushed around you going very fast, is not an easy or enjoyable process. And of course, people are always trying to get around me because I'm slower than them and they face the same problem. And there are also the lanes of car traffic bang up against the cycle lanes making it even more threatening and stressful. It looks like Copenhagen has the numbers of cyclists required to enforce better road design and this would encourage even more people to cycle. Unfortunately, although cycling is increasing in London, we are still a long way behind Copenhagen or the Netherlands. Our present Lord Mayor of London Sadiq Khan just cancelled many cycle highways that were meant to be built this year, so that has made things even worse here.
