8:25 the cop has a point, What gives you the right to hold up traffic, If you get split up i'm sure the riders that are in front will pull up down the road and wait for the rest. "What law?" i'm pretty sure blocking a highway in the uk falls under the Highways act 1980 Section 147 (Wilful obstruction of highway) subsection 1 states that "If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding" and just because you haven't got a ticket doesn't mean it's not against the law. It's the officers discretion whether to give a ticket or warn you.

i guess it is up to lawful authority's discretion is my point. Because it is all about the EXCUSE.. what if there was explosive material or something in the roadway or an accident or god forbid an injured person. That would be excuse enough to block traffic. And maybe letting this entire group go.. like a funeral etc is excuse enough as well.. my point is that the law is worded for EXCUSE. ;-)

Our motorcycle group use what is called the "Drop Off" technique when larger groups are on a ride. The leader when arriving at a junction or roundabout, will signal to the first guy behind him to stop at the side of the road at the junction everyone is to take. When the last guy in the group arrives he will signal the marker that he can carry on. This technique works really well and ensures nobody gets lost.

Sad times, the last clip, the biker is a classic example of the arrogance that give the rest of us a bad name. The overlay comments were just irrelevant. From 20 years of road experience everything they said was spot on the money, you can't go round holding up traffic, aside from the safety issues, that's just arrogant. As far as you not getting a ticket and then complaining about it, how immature.... they did you a favour as the penalty would not have been good. Education is key, more important than giving tickets. Did they tell you you're a criminal or was that just another stupid remark (Sarcasm). If you break the road traffic act it doesn't make you a criminal, it makes you an idiot, especially when you put others lives at risk; And as for using the excuse of keeping the pack together, if people ride off and don't wait that's their loss, if you have a pack leader who knows the area they can wait. People should ride within their own ability and not to the levels of others, that's when accidents happens and if people don't know the area then it's the groups responsibility to make sure they're safe and looked other without putting others at risk.

I explained to him that this is not the wild west, as in, raise your right hand and repeat after me "I am a deputy" and off you go. A Police Officer has no power to deputise people and they (as in the police) should know that and they should also be aware of the world of shit they will be in if it goes wrong, remembering that 'everything is fine until it isn't' . Senoir Police Officers will not back their motorcycle officers and insurance companies will certainly not back the civies. That opens up a whole world of both traffic offences and civil liabilities.

It's a contraversial situation when it comes to holding traffic up at roundabouts to help a group keep together (especially!!! for those who are not familiar with the area) it is ideal to try keep the group together SAFELY!!!) But, holding traffic up at roundabouts for the sake of keeping a bunch of motorcyclists together is unfortunately illegal. But, I wish it wasn't for the sake of the group / pack ( whatever mode of transport they are using). If the guiding rider ( front ) is very familiar with. the area then what could be done until this issue is had a re think about it. Is to get together before setting off & discuss the route for i.e about the next 10 miles. showing others he route. & STOP! at certain points to re-acces the next part of the your & so on etc, etc. Maybe this could be a better idea for now until the law MAY THINK!!! ( I DOUBT IT) that another way is just as convenient as any other way. Without causing any or little as possible disruption to others.

Funny thing about the police at the end, I'm UK based and have blocked junctions and roundabouts to keep cycle protests and 100+ cycling events together, and the only thing my local police have said was thanks. Keeping large groups of riders as one solid group is safer than having 10+ riders mixed around cars as the driver has to keep eyes on all of them moving indepently.

is not against the law to stop on a roundabout unless there is a yellow box located on the roundabout. It is necessary on a busy roundabout to get your place on the roundabout even if it means stopping on the roundabout itself.

Do not try and hold up traffic on any kind of junction, instead… use the drop off marker system. Safe and legal.

7:48 easy fix, just circle the roundabout taking the right of way up until your pack is all in the roundabout then follow the designated leader, It's definitely more dangerous than what he did but hell, if they want to be dolts about it and cry like a constipated baby then what choice do you have?

The 3rd clip, the rider hadn’t parked, as the engine was still running, the cop told him to shut the engine off, that’s the moment he had parked... is that not entrapment?

In the UK funeral processions do not have any special rights in law, you can overtake them if you wish. However, it is considered disrespectful (or bad etiquette) to do so and common decency to wait patiently. Technically the two situations are actually very different here. One has obstructed the traffic (Highways act 1980 section 137), this case its the motorcyclist, the other is a funeral procession moving slowly (actually normally 20mph in 30mph zones) this is not against the law as there is no law on the minimum speed limit in the UK (there are some very specific roads that do have minimum speed limits). If you drive too slow, 20mph on a dual carriageway for instance, you can be stopped by the police and given a verbal warning or in extreme cases a fine. And no - you cannot apply the no minimum speed limit to the motorcyclist going 0mph as there is a law specifically against that stopping in a public road (Highways act 1980 section 137)

i want to know who the guy is in the last video as i live in that area, as i have been on multi biker rides and always people blocking roundabouts for the whole group to get through, like he said only a couple of them know the area and Guildford and surrounding areas are not easy to know if you don't live around there with all the back roads and everything so i actually applaud that guy for helping fellow bikes stay safe and in a group, i would hate to see a few get torn away and get lost without knowing where everyone else has gone or where they are, so if that guy is reading it please reach out to me i would like to know more behind this story

Well, the police officer didn't have the time to go through the "ins and outs" of the law - Highways Act 1980 section 137 "If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding". Lawful Authority would be a "road construction worker that closes a road for a short or long time" for the purposes of their job. Probably would also fall under the "lawful excuse". The way he stopped the traffic was in such a manner as a police officer would, hence the 'you need to be wearing a police officer's uniform to do that' style comment

7:49 onwards, so, according to those police you should have a member at the front of every entrance onto the roundabout and just sit there till the group goes through. That was you aren't stationary on the roundabout... Oh, if someone doesn't see you and runs into you then surely they have committed the offence....
