Nice job on the practice PO landing. Those “Short Wing” pipers sink quick unlike a Cessna!

I learned to fly in a Colt. My instructor was a retired carrier pilot. He taught me to always do this type of landing.

In 1967, I bought a share of a Piper Colt based at Ried Hillview airport, California. Age 19, I learned to fly with it and then graduated to more powerful Cesssna 150. We used to call it the “flying rock.“

id take a colt over a 150 any day. significantly more useful load, better leg room. i would not consider a 150 more powerful. about the same. if you dont have the useful load you'd better be pretty light weight in a 150 and your passenger. two sizable guys and you are over weight. colt has about 120lbs more useful load than a 150. it does drop.... but not an issue to me. .

great to see someone else wearing a golf glove on the steering hand. i thought i looked silly with it, but it made summer flight school in TX much more comfortable than the death grip necessary with a smooth plastic yoke and a sweaty left hand...

I have a 61 Colt....that was a little close for me. Good airspeed control. I always seem to come in a little too hot.

no. i was attempting a power off short field landing and misjudged and had to add power to make it. i felt under control... but should not have played with the end of the runway as i did in retrospect. but was good short field for that airplane. ill not do that again.

i was focused on making that first exit. that was a bad idea. ill not do that again.

You never need to slip a Colt, just pull the power, she’ll come down

@@ravenswaal my observation in flying a colt is this..... its 60 years old... if you are in the pattern always stay in gliding distance...just in case.... good idea in any old plane... if in a short field situation....and you know it is running well.. trim back and tractor in just above stall .... pull power when you need to to put it where you need to be and as you say....it will come down..... but be careful and ready to trim forward if you need to go around. Colts are good at coming down. They don't stall....they drop. I love my Colt.
