Why don't you use the tensioner that comes with the kit? I'm not having any luck with mine so far
@NoctisMotus
4 жыл бұрын
From memory, the provided stuff sucked. Correct tension plays a big part in whether or not you get an open, as does having a lock pinned in such a way that it is susceptible to this kind of automated raking attack. Dramatic differences in bitting depths will mean a much lower chance of success. Naturally, tolerances come into play when we're talking about what locks are most vulnerable. In general though, locks will shallow, almost straight, bitting should fall in almost no time at all.

Yeah, but I ain't sticking that thing in any lock that I care about. :) I think that the result would be fairly obvious though. It would be much like attempting to bump or rake open a high security lock, IMO. The greater the tolerances and the more tricky the pins and keyway are, the greater the chance of failure.

@@NoctisMotus I said what I said about the video based on your description. I own the same tool and realized I was running it with the silver part upside down (like you appear to be doing). It seemed to me that it would stall out if I ran it the that way. Regardless, I had way more success with it turned around the other way. I also found that I had to rake the pins a bit to do the job. Unlike you where you just seem to only need to hold the tool flush up against them without any raking. Then again, I'm rather a novice at all this 😏
@NoctisMotus
6 жыл бұрын
I really don't think the orientation of that particular part of the tool has any impact on success. Success has more to do with susceptibility of the lock and finesse with applying torsion to the plug. It is more like an automated bumping attack against the lock. Frankly, I don't care much for these types of tools. It is much more fun to just pick the lock pin by pin. :)
@snatr
6 жыл бұрын
@@NoctisMotus Well what's happening when you have the tool positioned the way you had it is that it's basically the spring in the mechanism that's driving the pins rather than the cam on the motor. And speaking of that cam, that was the real downside I had with the gun. The grub screw freed itself up and it requires a really tiny (like .9 mm) allen wrench to tighten it back up. I added some thread locker after that. But I agree with you that hand tools are much more enjoyable. Although for someone as unskilled as myself, this did seem a bit quicker for the locks I've tried it on. Just thought I'd mention all this in case anyone else picked one up and was looking for tips. As far as why I bought it... Guess I've been watching too many movies 😋

Noctis Motus good job! People need honesty in reviews. Nowadays with the media, "honesty" isn't that common so I appreciate you and what you do! I just bought a nice Lockwood 120/50. Planning to lockup my gate to the backyard so nobody can enter. What do you think of the 120/50? Is it a good lock?
@NoctisMotus
7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. :) Yeah, 120/50 is a decent lock (5 pins, decent tolerances, security pins, double ball bearing locking mechanism, hardened steel shackle). Body is brass, so it could be cut fairly easily, but the lock can't be shimmed and it can be quite tricky to pick. For the price, it is a great general purpose lock with some very nice features.

I bought one of these and tried to open my house door locks, but was unable to open them with this tool. The tool has a motor in it with a cam on the shaft that rotates and gives the up and down motion to the pick tool. The problem is that even though you hear the buzzing sound, the up and down motion of the pick is too smooth. I modified the cam on the end of the motor shaft by grinding two flat places on it so the pick tool has a more abrupt up and down motion. After I modified it, I was able to open a couple of locks. I've seen some of these video's where they have quite a few locks that they open one after the other with this tool. I think it's a bunch of fake BS. There are reputable companies that make similar tools that will work, but they cost a lot more.
@NoctisMotus
2 жыл бұрын
Meh, cheap shit or expensive shit, it is all shit. In the trade, you don't even use these things, unless you suck so much at picking you need this kind of random approach. Most videos demonstrating these types of tools usually target average (or less) quality locks with a less than spectacular bitting. Simply, these tools are more effective where the bar is quite low. Much like raking a lock open, however, there is a small amount of skill to be employed. In any case, no point faking something that is so tragically easy.
