@sam.p12345

No there isn’t, they are both torque, which if equal, will have an equal effect. The point with an impact is that the torque can be greater, due to higher gearing, and repeated.
@identifiesas65.wheresmyche95
2 ай бұрын
@@sam.p12345 thats not why though. Impacts use the motor to spin up a hammer. That hammer gains velocity and therefore energy, after which it impacts and anvil which turns the fastener. Higher gearing actually decreases torque; most Impacts use gear reductions to increase torque.

@whiteAfrikkkanNun @whiteAfrikkkanNun yeah, about the same amount as non-mechanics. Most competent "mechanics" have to be a combination of mechanical engineers, welders, fabricators, troubleshooters, physicists, and also psychologists (to deal with typical idiots who think all who work on cars are all apes that can hold a wrench) and human relations experts (to attempt to explain to said idiots what is wrong with their cars after said idiots try to fix them all by themselves and wind up fucking them up beyond reason) who spend several weeks a year in classrooms to take refresher courses to keep up with new technologies as well as classes on dealing with "difficult " customers. Some of us are even college grads. We are also not "mechanics". We are referred to as automobile technicians (we can even walk and chew gum at the same time). I am certified by Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, MACS certified, ASE certified auto tech, and auto body & paint certified, Detroit Diesel (semi truck) and marine( boat) certified, structural fabricator & welder(certified), own a "small" machine shop, and build and restore fine home furnishings (as a hobby and extra income, I am high maintenance). And yes I can even read as well as write.... In English, Italian, and German.... And treat people who think "mechanics" can't read as contemporaries and equals. All while running a shop and restoring an old house. And spending six weeks a year in night classes at the local tech school learning new diagnostic technologies. If it weren't for "mechanics" we would be in a world of shit, still trying to discover the world on foot. Possibly still on the European continent looking out to sea wondering what's on the other side of the pond. You might give the lowly "mechanic who can't read" some credit for at least keeping you from walking everywhere.

@@svgPhoenix That's actually much more common, than not. People get married & tie their finances together - literally, one single bank account - & essentially build a facet of a prison for themselves (cuts both ways too - wives have to justify handbag & shoe purchases).

My preferred method is the rev and dump, get the cordless ratchet spinning and drop it on the bolt, works pretty good on most fasteners up to like m10 or m12

I do that all the time with my DeWalt 12v extended ratchet. I got it when they first came out. That thing is a beast and doesn’t let up.

A ratchet vs impact. Two different types of tools. Try a snap on impact.

I agree. I’m a Milwaukee guy all day, all my power tools and impact sockets are Milwaukee. There 3/8th long neck blows Milwaukee 3/8 extended out of the water imo

@@aidanfitzpatrick2206 interesting, why is that? the regular milwaukee rachet is miles better than the snap on one (in my opinion) so why would the extended one be any different?

Mine was slipping ... I've had it a few months ... truck came by the shop ... took care of it ... worked amazing until ... then I realized under a truck my light stopped working ... sent it with the tool truck yesterday for the warrantee ... they gave me a short neck loaner ... it's tough but the reach isn't there ... I miss it already

An electric impact and an electric ratchet, though similarly shaped and used, are in reality two different purpose built tools.

God forbid, my $500 ratchet protect itself from idiots so it can live on to make me another dollar 😂🤣 That's why I love my snap on, it knows its limit and doesn't try to keep going and burn itself out. Sometimes it's not the tool that's the problem, but the "tool" thats using the tool the wrong way. 😜

When I'm using the long neck, if something won't break loose I'll just get the ratchet spinning before putting tool to fastener. When done right the initial impact of all the torque as it catches usually does the trick. That is probably top 3 favorite tools for me, it's been such a time saver.

Thank you for explaining to some people that They are not made to break bolts loose 🤦🏻♂️ they are made to substitute a hand ratchet and help out with speed and movement in tight places. Also you can break bolts loose by hand with the electric rachets as well

Im no tool expert but do my research and I imagine a lot of people have purchased a cordless ratchet of any brand and were initially disappointed that it didnt "break" the nut/bolt free.. Ive worked at Home Depot and currently Lowes return desk and have countless people return various tools for various reasons and sometimes i try to show them or explain to them the tools use... For example an older man wanted to return a Skil 40V chainsaw because the chain wasnt spinning and as most of you guessed if you're reading this he had the chain brake on.. i pulled it back and off she went.. He said "man I feel soo dumb" and I reassured him it's not uncommon if you don't know the mechanics/operations of certain tools. He kept the chainsaw but I enjoy helping/teaching people if I can and gove them some insight..

I honestly can’t believe this has to be said. Being a good mechanic is instinctual. If it’s not immediately obvious that you need to break the bolt first, you are going to struggle your entire career.

You gotta neutral drop the ratchets get them spinning and force it on it’s still not an impact but it absolutely increases it’s removal strength

I bought the right angle impact for mainly one job, pulling flex plate adapter bolts for doing a R&R on a trans. I’m a heavy duty diesel tech so the trucks have the room to fit it up in by the flywheel housing usually. But best tool for the job by far!! And what I found is that tool is worth its weight in gold for racing the clock on multiple scenarios. That mf breaks bolts loose that are torqued to 80ft lbs all day long with the m12 4ah battery. From my experience it’s one of Milwaukees most slept on cordless power tool!!!

Exactly! Most of the drivers are then to assist in hand fatigue and people don't realize you have to use them as a ratchet to break the nut/bolt free...
