Cordyceps militaris (L.) Fr. 1818

I present to you one of the most interesting mushrooms today, since it has impressive medicinal properties, it can be cultivated and, on the other hand, it is a natural insecticide that is used to control pine processionary caterpillar pests. In spring the caterpillars descend from the white pockets that form in the trees (generally coniferous) in procession, one after the other, hence the name "processionary". And they are buried in the ground to form the grizzly or pupa. It is at that moment when the caterpillar is impregnated with the spores of Cordiceps militaris, these spores parasitize the caterpillar or pupa keeping it alive, to feed on it, until the fungus is produced. It also parasitizes other insects, with the same result.
Therefore, taking advantage of this property and that this species can also be cultivated, there are companies that already sell spores to mix with water and throw out the pines to control the processionary caterpillar pests. Remember that the processionary caterpillar is covered with one very stinging hairs that in contact with pets or people produces serious inflammations, and severe allergies. I personally have an allergy, and therefore in the video you can see that I try not to touch the larva or pupa.
Characteristics:
Small carpophor similar to a club or club. 2 to 3 cm in length is usually normal and between 3 to 5 mm wide at the base of the foot and up to about 10 mm at the top.
Normally orange in color and sometimes with a yellow hue Two parts are clearly distinguished, the upper one with a granular surface and the lower one which is smooth.
The granulated upper part is the fertile part, while the smooth lower part is sterile. Being this lower part the one that joins the larva or grayish
Foot: the lower part of the smooth and light orange carpophor is considered as foot
Meat: orange in color, with no defined taste or odor.
Edibility: In Europe it is not consumed, but in China. You can see in different WEBs the studies that are being carried out by some universities where they have detected a series of properties related to performance and energy, anti-aging, such as sexual invigoration,
