For Cardiothoracic surgery, do i need to go through core surgical training or can i directly apply for ST1 (runthrough program) after FY2 ? If directly ST1 then what are the requirements for portfolio?

Hey! Thanks for the great video. Could you kindly share a link or name of the teaching course you mentioned in Bristol? Cheers!

www.bristol.ac.uk/tlhp/courses/fmed/ Alternatively google Bristol THLP. The foundations in med ed course can be used as credits for the Bristol med ed pgcert / pgdip / msc if you're interested.

Is there any difference between applying for RCEd and RCeng? Like we can only apply for jobs in that part of the country?
@KittyWongHF
Жыл бұрын
No difference for jobs. No difference in the exam either as it’s a standardized intercollegiate exam board. Only difference is your access to that particular college’s services, eg. Discount for courses, access to library etc. very minimal in reality.

Thank you so much, I have some questions. Is the online courses from Coursera counted as courses in the oriel system? Most of the courses last for more than 4 weeks and we obtain a certificate from it. Will tutoring medical students at the university count as points or do we need to do while we are a junior doctors?Can we take the MRCS part A before starting the foundation program ?
@KittyWongHF

1. Most courses should count fine, I don’t know much about Coursera bus usually a reputable organisation such as RCS / ASIT / specialty groups events will be fine. 2. Yes tutoring from med school will count as far as the 21/22 criteria goes, remains to be see what the 22/23 application cycle scoring is. 3. No, the MRCS part A can only be taken once you have graduated from medical school.

Is there a description of what "Surgically themed" means?
@KittyWongHF
2 жыл бұрын
Just that it relates to surgery! Could be on a surgical topic itself, e.g. completeness of WHO checklist / assessment of a surgical patient, or something done for surgical patients specifically e.g. VTE in surgery, catheters in surgical patients, etc Key is having this in your letter / signed off by a surgical consultant

If I do a Clinical Attachment, will it give me the same benefit as Clinical Elective ? I mean in terms of Scores.
@KittyWongHF

In the UK, a foundation programme surgery post will give the same points as an elective (according to the 2022 criteria).

Can someone help me out with where to find surgical conferences?🙈
@KittyWongHF
Жыл бұрын
Depends on what conference you’re after - good pan-specialty one for trainees is ASIT. The Royal Colleges also do their own ones here and there. If you have a specialty in mind they will often have AGM meetings or even dedicated trainee conferences. Search for the specialty group online (e.g. BOTA for ortho, VSGBI for vascular, SCTS for cardiothoracics, Duke’s for colorectal trainees etc etc) and it will usually say when conferences might be. There’s often also some kind of event / conference calendar too for various ones throughout the year. Finally something like the BMA course finder is also friendly to use.

How can an IMG get a consolidation report as we dont have elogbooks
@redheartlionstoryboardanim9502

Can we make our own consolidation reports and then get them signed?
@KittyWongHF
Жыл бұрын
I always find it difficult to advise IMGs as I haven’t been through this route myself. The eLogbook is free to use and as far as I know you can use foreign hospitals and patient identifiers so might be worth doing. Outside of this I know there are channels to “proof” to the GMC that you did these cases (with consultant signatures) but I have heard this is often difficult.

@@KittyWongHF is there a link to the elogbook? Also can we make our own consolidation report and have it signed by a consultant?
@KittyWongHF
Жыл бұрын
@@redheartlionstoryboardanim9502 Literally google it - www.elogbook.org/ You might be able to make your own consolidation report but often for training they would require this to be a via an official channel, e.g. elogbook.org or ISCP. I don't know how acceptable it would be if you just had your own list as it's not verifiable.
