I had a stent implanted literally yesterday. Was having chest pains and went to the Urgent Care. I had a full cardiac arrest in the lobby. I got CPR, shocked and a ride in an ambulance. All in all a good day because I didn't die. Praise God

Praise The Most High!! I had one placed this past Saturday. Dr. said I had a mild heart attack. I didn't need CPR or anything, but I suspect my body was trying to tell me something was wrong b/c I had a series of events that began with a really bad pain across my chest about 2 months ago. It felt like something was tearing my muscles. Since it went away after a few seconds, I thought nothing of it. This past Friday was the 3rd episode, only this time, it kept reoccurring until I couldn't handle it and called 911. I wish you a speedy & successful recovery!

Yeah, I had one several years ago now (aged 43) and similar as I was sporty and all markers would say I was very fit. I ended up with 5 stents. I am fine now - back to running 5k’s and weights etc. At first I also thought I had no symptoms, but when I looked back - one thing I did have was intense tiredness on occasion- where I would have to go and lay down and have a power nap. I was working hard, young family (so up at night a lot)- so didn’t think much of it at the time- but now think it was the only real symptom. Glad we are both here to tell the tale though!- have a healthy new year.

What an absolutely brilliant description of the deployment of stents in the case of (at the very least) an Angina attack. I was supported by the brilliant team at Southampton General Hospital UK when I suffered a severe Angina attack. The attack returned and I had another stent insertion at the hospital. This was all over 20 years ago, and the surgeon (whom I will not name for privacy reasons), advised "Get on an exercise Program". I have been exercising ever since, every day, mainly cardiovascular, and nothing more strenuous. I have to add I am now 84 not for reasons of vanity, but for accuracy.

The John Hunter in Newcastle placed a stent and she’s now home and on aspirin and anohr medication. She has had conic pancreatitis attacks for years and doesn’t tolerate drugs well. Statins for example actually promote the pancreatitis and we are concerned the post operative medication might have the same issue. The arm through which the stent was introduced is heavily bruised and dreadfully painful : fingers crossed.

Somehow a petition must be made to inform the patient of the heavy load of medications required for a long time after stenting. The doctors avoid giving the information before the procedure and then load it on the patient after the stenting when it is too late. My otherwise healthy brother who I feel was actually suffering from hiatal hernia acid reflux that induces heart pain or discomfort was lured by the doctor via angiogram reading claim of arterial blockage. A leading Indian heart specialist has come out with the information that our bodies create by passes on their own and neither bypass nor stenting is required for blocked arteries. He says heart attacks are due to distress in the mind, anger and other negative emotions the person cannot handle and no case really exist of death from a blocked artery. Within a month, my otherwise healthy brother with tons of energy has been turned into a frail thin wasted creature via 8 deadly medications, which include blood thinners, immunity depressors, statins and what not and he cannot even remove that stupid unneeded stent. Where are these evil money worshipping killer allopaths think they will be going in their next lifetime. Obviously they will end up as slaves in some CRUEL civilisation in some weird planet out there in our Universe. There is little we the public can do for the present as ads for their paraphernalia are food for the media who also are not on the side of the public but lean over willy nilly to big business and Pharmacies.

I got 3 stents about 3 months ago. Arteries were blocked but the heart was good and strong. Luckily I had been living healthy for quite awhile, so the blockages were caused by poor lifestyle choices in my youth. I was in and out of the hospital in less than a day. I refused all the medications and instead made more lifestyle changes. Artery disease can be reversed, but doctors won't tell you that. They profit from the meds. I'm a 70 year old man and feel mentally and physically like I'm 20 again. I went vegetarian and get lots of low stress exercise like walking, bicycling, swimming, gardening and housework. When the oldest person in the country was asked how she managed to live so long she replied: "I mind my own business and don't eat junk food." It's as simple as that. Interesting note: The hospital bill was $140,000, the Medicare Advantage insurance I have paid a negotiated rate of $14,000, and it only cost me $300 for the emergency room deductible!

My first stents were the newer coated stents in 2001 and then stay on an anticoagulant like plavix for 6 months. 3-1/2 years later I had another heart attack. They inserted another stent as one of the originals clogged. By then they said the drug eluding stents were not even available anymore as they had their own issues. So the stent put in after the second heart attack was not drug eluding. I think they were made by Johnson and Johnson (the drug eluding ones). The new protocol was also to stay on the plavix forever. Now its 2023 and no issues. This is my personal experience and hope it helps. Also I was only 51 and always in great shape. I have the curse of genetics.

I have had open-heart surgery a double bypass and an aorta valve replacement. Then after a year, the specialist found that the disease is still there and suggested the angioplasty procedure. They put in several of these devices. Thank again for the life-saving procedure. Now again less than a year ago after a cardio ultrasound they wanted to do another angioplasty once inside they discovered what was concerning the specialist. A previously clogged or plugged artery had opened. It certainly made the O.R a bet lively. Anyway after some commotion and what seemed quite some time. I was returned to the recovery area. After 4 hrs. It was determined I could go home but no driving for a week. It's been ten months have had zero discomforts the first time or this time. I opted for no sedatives either time. I remained quite calm throughout these procedures. I love being here on this side of the roots everyday. I'm 69 years old and would appreciate as much quality time with you all as I can get. So thank you, to all that are in the field of saving lives. If you believe in God as I do. You are blessed. Thank you. Stay healthy stay safe, to family as well all you know. Above all be happy.

Look up INFLAMTION causes cholesterol to go to your arteries to heal them. Then you will learn that if you stop the INFLATION the High Cholesterol is OK because it will not keep being sent put falsely to heal the body, and thus clog up our arteries. So, what causes INFLAMTION? Look it up, mostly it is ANY OROCESED OIL we cook with like Peanut Oil, Veg, Oil and its in EVERYTHING, so only use real Olive Oil or Coconut Oil, Cotsco brand is the best to me, its real virgin, some are fake and processed. Many foods cause inflammation, Diabetics are told to take Alpha Liphoric Acid, it stops inflammation, Pat Robertson was taking it 30 yeas ago and he's 92. I can absolutely comment on this. After retiring at 50 and enjoying a life of relaxation, walking my 5 dogs three times per day, eating healthily and avoiding any kind of time commitment or stress, I became bored. So I decided to go back to work. But I thought that I’m not going to take any old job, I wanted a position that reflected my qualifications and years of successful experience. I had all the time in the world to find my special job and rejected several offers until about a year had gone by and I received a meaningful offer from a global manufacturing company based in China who were looking for an operations Director. I wasn’t particularly experienced in their exact field but the remuneration and benefits packages were of epic proportion and so I was lured in. To put this into proportion; the company employed over 150,000 people located virtually in every country in the world and their financial turnover exceeeded 50 billion pounds per year. I thought that I had landed in heaven and gave myself a big pat on the back for achieving what I considered the pinnacle of my career. My health was good, I was physically fit, a weight lifter, regular walker and cyclist. The job started well and I coped with my remit well but the Chairman of the company loaded more and more expectation upon me. At my pay level and position in the company, I didn’t feel able to argue or refuse. So, the ensuing majority of my time was spent cris crossing the world by air in order to deal with arising company issues. I couldn’t manage time off and most of my sleep was on board one aircraft or another. When I ate it was airline food or hotel and restaurant fare. My company issued mobile telephone had to be replaced virtually every three months because it could not deal with the amount of use that it was subject to. I was forced to apply for a second passport because the 96 pages of my original one could not contain sufficient space for immigration stamps. I still thought that I had arrived! Sipping endless glasses of champagne in first class on the airlines, staying at the very best hotels all over the world, my limitless company credit card etc etc. But the sad truth was that I didn’t at first notice the mental stress heaping up by leading this lifestyle and responsibilities until it was nearly too late. I began to realize that I had no ‘head space’. I had no time for relaxation or thoughts for anything other that the company. When I rarely did manage a few hours of time off, I found myself pontificating to my friends on my job or the business itself. My wife asked me for a photo, she said she wanted to remember what I looked like! Gradually, over the next two years or so, the job ground me down. I had less and less time for any thoughts or considerations for myself. Before I was a pleasant, easy going sort of chap now I was a harsh, brutal business robot thing that didn’t have time nor inclination for anything other than pushing the business further. A bank holiday opportunity presented itself and I decided to take advantage and have a week end off, turn the telephone off and do nothing for three days, not even think about the company. On the Saturday evening my wife and I casually cooked ourselves a simple supper and sat down in front of the tv to eat it. I had a mild headache and a slightly sore back which I blamed on a certain airline’s so called ‘lie flat bed’. During our meal I stood up to replenish our drinks and felt a little dizzy. By the time I had reached the kitchen I started feeling a massive pressure upon my chest. I was doubled over because of the pain and began racing about the house trying to alleviate it. My wife called the paramedics and I was admitted to the Papworth hospital in Cambridgeshire where I had an angiogram, a diagnosed heart attack and my first stent fitted. Within 4 days of being discharged from hospital I was back at my job and on a plane to Taiwan. I knew then that I could cope with the physical aspects of my life but not the constant, never ending mental demands of my job. To cut a long story very short, I retired, bought a place in rural France and tried to wind down. 9 months later I had another heart attack and two more stents fitted, three months after this, I had yet another heart attack and a further five stents fitted. Without any doubt whatsoever, the cause of my malaise was stress. The effect of which continued for just over a year until now where, hopefully, I have resolved it. I avoid any stressful situation or circumstance, I do not conform to any one else’s time schedule no matter what the reason, I deliberately avoid anger or angst and I do not/cannot engage in any physically demanding activity. I would say that stress is a virulent and powerful opponent far beyond the current understanding that the medical profession and us mere mortals are capable of understanding. Deliberately putting yourself in stressful circumstances is very akin to placing a loaded revolver against your head and playing with the trigger in my humble uneducated opinion. Perhaps some people deal with it better than others but overall my first inclination is that it should be recognised as the potential killer that it absolutely is. Ok, sorry for the endless diatribe, I’m now going to my personal space where I spend a minimum of one hour per day to meditate and to listen to some calm and enlightening music. I hope that my personal story will help others to recognise the extreme problems resultant upon stress and to make effort to avoid it no matter how mentally tough that they perceive themselves to be.

Hi Andrew. 3 weeks ago today i had this procedure done. I actually had 3 stents fitted. I will not lie to you, i was really worried and nervous just before it went ahead. I'm not sure exactly sure how long it took but i would guess at an hour and a quarter. I can confirm to you i experienced no pain whatsoever whilst the angioplasty procedure was ongoing. The only pain/discomfort i experienced was afterwards after they had put a tight bandage around my right wrist where the catheter had been. This has to be done to prevent any excess bleeding. Once back on the ward a nurse would come to me every 10 minutes or so and release a bit of pressure on the bandage. Even after the 1st time my wrist felt better. The nurses and doctors who dealt with me that day were all great it has to be said, i am very grateful to every one of them. I went out for a 5min walk twice the day after my procedure as per the information given to me when i left hospital. I am now doing 15mins twice a day with no issues whatsoever, not out of breath but more importantly no pain at all. So yes although it's early days I'm already reaping the benefits so to speak. Hope it all goes well for you, i wish you all the best 👍

Thank you for this series. Extremely informative and encouraging for those of us living the process. My story is a bit different. 62 year old healthy/active male presented with "walk through angina" at ER 3 weeks ago. Severe diffuse CAD with predominantly non calcified plaque. First of at least 3 stents in for 2 weeks now, next procedure likely in about 6 weeks. No family history of CAD so I thought I was in the clear. Mine is likely Radiation Induced CAD from treatment for Hodgkins disease in 1994. Quite surprising that my general practitioner wasn't monitoring for this, apparently it's not well known outside of the cardiology area. My question for you - Anything different in the post PCI treatment for radiation induced CAD ? I'm on Ticagrelor, Aspirin, Metoprolol, and Atorvastatin. Healthy diet and exercise also in play. I can't find any research in the area beyond acknowledging it occurs in Hodgkins and breast cancer patients treated with mediastinal radiation. Any thoughts or insight would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your feedback Michael and sharing your experience. You raised an interesting question, in the olden days, not many people know but we use to use radiation treatment (called brachytherapy) to help in cases when stents had blocked off. This is not used now as we have developed better ways to monitor and treat complications like this in modern day stents. You are doing all the right things with your follow up, nothing specific to address beyond just the usual risk factors in such cases. Appreciate your valuable input.

n 2013, at the age of 33, I had my first heart attack when I had 3 stents. In 2018, I started exercising, and when I felt the strongest in June 2021, I had another heart attack and two stents were placed, so now I have a total of 5 stents. I did almost all the examinations, 59% heart ultrasound, ergospirometry which is great, holter pressure and holter ECG, everything is great! But I have a problem when I start exercising, 30-45 after training with weights of 5-10 kg, my blood pressure suddenly jumps and my heart starts to malfunction, nitroglycerin requires. I don't want to give up, but now I'm afraid to start training. I don’t need some weights but they also make me less of a problem. I'm spinning in a circle and I don't know where to start. it is important for me to exercise moderately and maintain strength as much as possible. What do you think, should I do multislice catheterization or maybe myocardial spectrum? Maybe I should check the stent flow ?

Thank you doctor for a wonderful insigjt into coronary heart disease and various stents. If you can tell the difference between baloon angioplasty and stents it will be very informative. If a stent dissolves over a period of time will the artery not collapse since the scaffolding effect is lost?
@HeartMatters
2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question! We will address your question in an upcoming Q&A episode soon. Briefly, angioplasty involves treating blockages by opening them up using only a balloon with no stent placed. The problem however is that if we use the balloon only, the artery often does not stay open so a device is needed. Over 2-3 years that it takes for the dissolving stents to disappear, the artery remodels and heals often in such a way that it is able to remain open without collapsing again (but this was an issue with the first generation plastic/polymer stents) so we are still learning about the dissolving stents and how they behave long-term.

I had a Scad, 2 stents, 35 male, around the time this video was uploaded march 10th 2022, appreciate the information, my blockage was 90% on a "RI" coronary artery, was a shocker, they used xience pro a stents, one 2.25 in diameter and the other 2.5, it presented as Angina and i now know what that feels like, was prescribed Asprin 81,ticagrelor 90mg twice a day, perindopril 2mg once a day, bisoprolol 2.5mg once a day and rosuvastatin 40mg. The angiogram/plasty was not what i had expected haha, going to the pre-op room and hearing older gentlemen talking about multiple stents did help calm me down a little, the procedure was short and uncomfortable but for the most part painless however not something id be in a hurry to do again haha, I was very cold after the procedure, now after a year I will be stopping the ticagrelor but continuing the others, i was looking around for videos regarding what the coronary arteries do and how maybe some lifestyle things may affect them, however i'm about 5'9 190lbs i do like to eat healthy and watch what i eat "everything in moderation as grandad would say" and i have never been a cig smoker or a drinker, very rarely drank maybe 3 times a year and maybe 1 per year for the last few years prior also no hard street drugs ever, only a regular cannabis user, and regular ativan user for panic disorder, things i wonder about are if i should ever get a ct angiogram to see how things are going or my cannabis use if it causes more stress on my heart, id note that i use sativa and aim for 15% thc and use joints not bongs, and do not hold my inhales, very lightweight on the cannabis but i do enjoy it. i did get screened for fmd at my request and it came back all fine, i was rather nervous as i had an appendectomy jan 30th 2023 not even a year later, and asking about how or why this could happen was basically the same thing with scad "we dont know exactly" haha kinda a bummer. but the appendectomy went fine and i am recovering well basically recovered, yet i will have another surgery to have my gallbladder out by may 20th, ...such a time in life to be alive haha... anyway cheers

Was told it was the "widowmaker" ! Had a stent placed and another done 2 days later along with a procedure to open that artery. It was hardened and would not expand open. I was in the hospital 5 days. I had a rough couple months taking a lot of meds. Ejection fraction was low and I wore an external vest/defibrillator for 3 months. Had some unpleasant side effects from drugs. Had echo tests done and heart improved. After 3 months and med changes and getting into a cardio rehab program along with home exercise by the 4th month my ejection fraction was up to 45% and I was feeling nearly normal. No longer using the defibrillator. Completed 3 months of rehab, went back to work and am back to outdoor walking as I did before my H/A....I walk everyday, 20 minute miles or faster and 3-4 miles or more when time allows. I am a lifelong jogger, walker etc. I have lost 15lbs or more and am at 140Lbs......which is a good weight for my height. I am eating as healthy as I can and trying to reverse the things that may have caused my H/A 74 years old and thankful for the modern meds that saved my life and the doctor who did my emergency procedure at 1-2 AM !! After my first bare metal stent in 1997 which was put through the artery in my groin area which involves a two day stay in the hospital, I was just told to take a 325 aspirin daily. Reduced to just low-dose aspirin in 2018 In 2022 tests foundfound that my stent had buildup that was blocking artery again so they put in a bare metal stent inside my old one through a vein in my wrist was able to go home later in the day .I was put on Brilinta for one year but was switched out to Clopidogrel after a couple of months because I was developing multiple huge bruises which is the #1 leading side effect.

Back in 1999 I had quadruple by-pass surgery I was just 48....six weeks after surgery I had a heart attack one of the by-passes caught a blood clot I was fortunate because of the location of the blockage they inserted a metal stent . I am still very active hunt, fish and play pickelball 4-5 times a week consider myself extremely lucky because of the success of the stent.

Very interesting info on stents. I had 2 drug eluding stents placed in 2006 & was ambulanced to an out of town hospital in an Emergency situation. Both blockages were in the high 80 percentile.

Michael, thanks for sharing your experience. My practice is to always see how we can avoid placing stents, no doubt there is a benefit but I find many of my patients can be managed well with some lifestyle changes, controlling risk factors and some medicines to help improve symptoms. Thanks for supporting the channel.

I had a heart attack 6 years ago. When I got the stent put in they mentioned that in the future I might need another put it in. Now my dr. Is saying that my heart is 40%. When I first recovered it was 55% . Also said it may be time to get another stent put in. My blood pressure has been running high for the last month. I thought I could go off blood thinners now I know I should get back on it.thank you for all the information you have given me.why don’t dr.give more and better information.if I had known what I know now I would have been more careful in my judgment. Doctors please know that the normal person doesn’t know what they are getting done or how it works.please inform patients with the why and the know. Thank you for sharing.

First Thank-You for your video! I'm glad I watched this video. Now I feel better about the 3.5 mm x 15 mm Medtronic short stint they put in my left anterior descending artery back in 2019 right in the widowmaker. I was worried that the thing might fall down sideways but now I understand it's a lot longer then I thought and it's in there good. When I had the heart attack I had Pain down both sides of my neck I thought it was carrying Construction supplies on my head, well the pain wouldn't go away so I was going to try to sleep it off but then it got worse and I told my wife "Drive me to the ER." The second I walked into the ER that's when my arm and chest started hurting. Well they put an IV in me and pumped in nitroglycerin I felt fine, the next day they went in my wrist and put that stint in then latter the heart doctor walked by my room with his thumb and his finger about a 16th of an inch apart and said you made it by that much! Then he said that was in the widowmaker. I said what the widowmaker? Then the Dr. said who’s idea was it to drive to the ER? I said it was my wife's then I said no it was mine. He said good choice, if you were to wait for the ambulance you probably wouldn’t of made it? Then he told all about widowmaker and mine was about 97% blocked. I went into the ER on Monday, then stint on Tuesday, home on Wednesday, rest on Thursday, back to work on Friday. Thanks to all the Doctors and medical professionals

Very informative on certain points. My stints are 32 years old and I have no idea what ill effects has overtaken them or their quality at 32 years ago. This kind of data would be much appreciated and helpful to us with aging stints,

I had 50% blockage in 1 of my coronary arteries. They wouldn’t put a stent in unless it’s at least 70% blocked.

Thank you George, that is great advice, based on the angiogram, we would only place a stent in an artery that contained a significant blockage, based on the angiogram this is usually more than 70% narrowed. Wishing you the best!

For clearer understanding on what angioplasty is,I found this explanation, i think am lucky because in few hours to come i will be going through inserts of stents in palma de Mallorca son llatzer hospital (Spain) I have had shortness of breath 3 consecutive times in a year & each I felt I will die, it is horrible experience to go through, now after series of text I was told I will go through angioplasty. I believe this will be a great solution to fluids build up that causes shortness of breath.

I have a stent , since 2015. However because I have fibromyalgia, and also it gives me pain. I have also pulmonary edema. When I had a chiropractor massage my backside. I told him not to touch my left lung. The same week , a clot was dislodged , and went to my heart. At that night I had to leave. But now I'm on xerelto, and aspirin. And now with cope , and coughing , I had a rib cage underneath my heart ,started to pain me. So this is why I have a stent in my arteries. The doctors say no , but I say yes. Because I barely had any problems with my heart. Until this was done to me.
