Hilda was salt of the earth tbh..a gossip yes but life dealt her hard blows. She didn't ask for much....a tour de force of acting and the first actress ever from TV to be nominated for a BAFTA. Jean Alexander and her performance when Stan died still rates as one of the most classic scenes ever. Of course the actor Bernard Youens had passed a little earlier in real life so the loss felt was genuine.

I was 5 when these were on.I can barely remember these storylines from '77 so its like watching them for the first time for me.It's like a parallel universe watching the story unfold and knowing what comes later. i think i've already mentioned that we were up to 83/84 before they all got deleted. The golden era for me was 77 to 95.Once the young kids started to come in and PC storylines became more common,it signalled the end of the golden era for me. I still watch it now,but seeing these old ones just makes me realise how the show..well just about any soap opera now is just used as a platform to push certain agendas to the masses. keep up the good work mate and i miss your Spaghetti western as well.

This is really wrong! Everyone was invited except them! She was not invited to the store keeper’s wedding either, which I also thought was wrong! And why did Hilda go to Rita’s apartment with the girls if she couldn’t even invite her to the wedding??! And even got her a gift!! I would not have went, and I surely would not have brought a gift!! Stupid! And what is this drinks at 5:00 Crap??! When and where was this??! And whatever it was, they didn’t show it, Hilda didn’t go! Of course! Why would you go to this stupid thing when you were not invited to the wedding??! I have never heard of this! It says, you are not good enough to come to the wedding and reception, but you can have a drink with me if you want! And it’s stupid because it said 5:00. Rita was driving around then, waiting for Len! They have never had only invited to drinks for a wedding in America! Either you are invited to the wedding, or not! Stupidest thing that I have ever heard!

The paper boy "Darren" has a clear Yorkshire accent , south Yorkshire to be precise, which is completely different to the Lancashire accent where Coronation Street and Weatherfield are set. True, genuine Lancashire accents on display in these episodes are: Rita (Oldham) Irma Ogden (Salford) Bet (Oldham) Dierdre (Oldham) Hilda (although not genuine it is excellent acting and she is acting the Salford accent ,where the studios and set were located and on which the town of Weatherfield was based) There is no one that I know of , in these 70's episodes with a Manchester accent, the city that borders the much smaller and older city of Salford. The character Kevin Webster (1984- present ) has a genuine Manchester accent and the actor does not change his own accent for the part.
