The scenes with the Ogdens in that hotel were magical and some fine acting from the both of them. I wish my mum was still here as she would be amazed she could see this again on the internet. As I previously commented I never watch soaps but I found these one day on YT and have been captivated ever since. I know it might sound daft to say this but I feel she is still here when I watch them. Thank you so very much.

She’s very cute tho! 🙂 I wear my ear phones too & it’s the eating gum & foods that’s disgusting 🤮 (I fast forward in the 1980s episodes with Kevin eating it’s soooo bad & the mucus sounds when Ivy talks!) it’s also bad when the washings getting hung out with the wooden pegs! The classic episodes featuring the Ogdens' second honeymoon are things TV Gold is made of. Hilda for the first time in her life finding herself living the life of luxury and being pampered at the same time whlst Stan on the other hand is more concerned about drinking the mini bar dry and reflecting on who's in the Rovers. Derek Francis as Cousin Charles is just great. I could go on with my love for 1970s Corrie but I'll finish by saying, "Woman Stanley, Woman!" Classic Corrie, I'm in heaven!

Nice to see Hilda having a taste of luxury rather than drudgery for a change. It's a pity Stan wasn't able to fully enjoy the experience, he was more concerned with what wasn't available to him - beer - rather than what was. Such as champagne, decent wine and a choice of well-prepared food brought to him, rather than a trip to Jackson's chippy. Poor Hilda had her work cut trying to encourage him to make the most of their prize. Brilliant episode.

@@gaysy1st Some people are happy as they are, they don't want any more, but Hilda did want more and she wanted Stan to want more too. Obviously, she loved him, they were devoted to one another despite their bickering, Stan's complaints and her sharp, critical tongue. She might not have wanted champagne and haute cuisine every day, but she wanted it for one day. She wanted to feel special and have someone else to attend to her the way she did to others every day. Like the time she won Mike Baldwin in a raffle, he took her to a good quality Italian restaurant and she enjoyed the feeling that she mattered. If Hilda was happy the way she and Stan lived, with too little money, security and comfort, these storylines would make less impact.

@jenlfpotter3870

I don't think they just put the baby through it. Some babies are just naturally like that. 30 years later, I had a cousin of the same age who was just screaming constantly when he was awake, for at least his first year or so. It was purely, attention seeking behaviour, because he always stopped if he was picked up, cuddled, fed or just generally given attention. I also remembered his sister 12 years or so before, just sitting up against cushions, either very quiet or very happy or both. She'd sit there in her pram, going ayayayayayay. I guess it was her first word when she was around 8 months old.

My earliest memories of Emily are when she was/seemed pretty old and one of a quivering nervous wreck of an old woman. Watching these it would appear to be a result of being married to that weed of a bully. There seems to be a distinct lack of sensitivity or emotion amongst most of the men actually. Surely husbands like Ernest, Ray, Len and Stan weren't typical? It's the late 1970's not the cave dwelling days. If it weren't for that void-of-any-empathy Suzie outscumbagging them all in one sitting I'd believe there was an agenda 😂

He strikes me as being a fairly reasonable semi professional musician and exceptional pianist. It’s a shame we didn't get to hear very much of that before Emily came in with baby Tracey and insisted he stopped. Might have chilled Tracey out, the soleful piano music. Nobody plays music to their kids any more, especially when trying to soothe them to sleep.
