Yessir Thank you for saying " if you're carrying tools to the woods, carry the right tool for the job " and that what you were doing was last resort procedure. Batoning wasn't a mainstream thing until the internet and yoofloob. Nobody ever did it or referred to it when I started camping with the scouts away from family in the late 60's early 70's. It's not in any of the camping books I have from the 1960's or 1970's. It's not in the scout Fieldbook I still have copyrighted 1967. Most of what fires we were allowed to build were made with branches and wood collected from the ground, and could be broken by hand or stomping it. We were still able to boil water just fine. Woops- that's not trendy 😮 Thanks for another great video and looking forward to more

A great example of Adapt and Overcome. I'm a big believer in "the right tool for the right job." But like another famous saying goes..."when you're a hammer, everything's a nail." Sometimes you just have to use what you have on hand and get the job done.

Thank you for the tips and tricks.. many years ago i got stuck out in the woods overnight and couldn't find the cul-de-sac dirt road i had parked on in the dark..my swiss army knife saved the night. Proceeded firewood for my overnight in New England in November.@ 34° that night. No equipment.. obviously i survived.. Lesson learned..even a short hike can turn into an overnight. Carry EDC to get you through a night.. your tips are very helpful please continue. I just recieved my Swiss Forester..like the knife you have but has a cork screw instead of a phillips. It has an awesome AF saw. Thank you for the tip.

Your videos are getting better each time. You seem far less stressed. Every Bushcraft/survival creator seems to say, buy my knife but if you want an excellent knife that doesn't cost and arm and a leg buy the Garberg. When everyone recommends it, its likely a fantastic knife.

The Terava Jaakaripuukko is about the same price as the Garberg and I've found it to perform just as well. Another option for people. One plus side is they offer a left handed leather sheath which is important for me. I prefer the Bahco for the reasons you mentioned. My preference is to carry a Leatherman usually but I've still got a lot of love for my SAK. I love these tip videos and even if I know a ton of this stuff already you're providing a ton of FREE knowledge that people pay a lot of money to learn otherwise.

There is a risk of the log springing back when using your third tip. I broke my nose doing that. It was a freak thing as I had prepared quite a bit of wood successfully prior to that. But, it just took one piece of wood that had too much spring in it to ruin my whole day (and leave me with a permanently deviated septum). So, some thought should be given to what happens if a heavy piece of wood comes flying back at you. If possible, do not line up the arc of your strike with your face.

Excellent advise. I would respectfully add a couple of points. 1) for the saws you want to have a reverse taper in the blade through the center; meaning the spine is thinner than the toothed edge so it won’t bind as you cut into the wood and it makes it more flexible. 2) i carried a Leatherman for years. The SAK is supreme, but Leatherman is also awesome and they pack in pliers and other tools in a smaller profile. Frankly, I have both and never feel like I made a mistake carrying either one.
